I feel like I say this ad nauseam, but every time I worry I'm too annoying about promoting my work, someone always comments something along the lines of "I've been following you for over a decade, what do you mean you wrote an international bestselling book?"
And I'm like, welp, time to reblog some stuff, I guess á( á )á
I... okay, hold on. I've got a copy-paste response for this...
(ID in alt)
Hi, I'm Joy Demorra, international bestselling author and general disaster.
This is my book. Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites is the first book in the Hunger Pangs series, a queer, polyamorous, paranormal, gaslamp slow-burn romance featuring vampires, werewolves, and various other creatures that go bump in the night.
It started out life as a Tumblr shit post and became an international bestseller within several hours of pre-orders going up. No one was more surprised than me.
It features Nathan, a deaf, disabled werewolf newly returned from war, and Vlad, a neurodivergent mad scientist vampire trying to unionize the workforce of the island in between tripping over all his various ongoing projects. (free healthcare, free schooling, yâknow, small hobbies)
The other main character is Ursula, an all-powerful [REDACTED] working to save the world from imminent ecological disaster. The main romance arc of book one focuses on Vlad x Nathan, with Ursula forming her own relationships with them alluded to in the next book.
No love triangles here. Just three highly competent bisexuals sharing the same brain cell the closer they are to each other.
The world is set in a pseudo-regency meets fake Victorian Gaslamp Fantasy world, complete with gothic castles, enchanted forests, and just a smidge of industrial coal dust.
One of my favorite reviews ever described it as "the queer, goth love child of Terry Pratchett meets Jane Austen," so if that sounds interesting to you, you can check out my links below.

Why are there two versions, and what's the difference between them? Glad you asked! You can also find content tags on my website at www.joydemorra.com if you want to find out more.
I'd put them on the book itself, but Amazon would pitch a fit.
So, yeah. I wrote a book. I'm writing several more. I'm just recovering from almost dying in the same year I published the book. Because that was also a thing. Anyway. âšBookâš
my headcanon for a long time has been that souls have a degree of control over when/where/how they're reborn. that's why the same souls keep returning to the Dotharl tribe: they choose to.
it also provides a logical explanation for some people (Gerolt, Rowena, the trolley crew) looking exactly the same across reincarnations despite one side of my brain screaming that that doesn't make any sense with either real life genetics or how even in game, people end up looking more or less like their family members. perhaps souls have a preferred form that, within limits, they can facilitate being reborn as.
(the soul having some role in determining physical form would also dovetail with dragons' system of asexual reproduction and personal evolution; despite them being from a different star, they still ought to operate under the same natural laws)
at the same time, the key would be that it is a choice â and that allows the WoL to be anything. you don't have to look like Ardbert, because why wouldn't Azem, the traveler, counselor to the people, want to be someone different, live somewhere different, have totally new experiences, in every new life?
A Book of Creatures by @a-book-of-creatures doesn't update these days but is another thing along these lines, really huge, fully illustrated all by the author and cites all sources
so today a public health official guy came into my class to give a lecture on disaster awareness and he was talking about house fires and mentioned that the reason people most likely die during a house fire is because they refuse to leave their pet inside or they go back to get their pet. and right when he said this my friend immediately turned his head and looked at me and in that moment I had the most complete and genuine acceptance take over my body. I would 100% in front of my family and Jesus himself walk straight back into some raging inferno that was once my house to go get my fat cat. I nodded back
the best part of this post is reading all the tags from animal people who would also go back to save their pets. like no hesitation. walk backwards from heaven straight back into hell. someone even said they would go back for their fish. amazing
If you are a person who would walk into a blazing inferno for your animal, and your pet has free movement around the house, hereâs a training exercise that could help save you both:
1) Set off your smoke alarm or play the sound on your phone (if your home has no smoke alarms, pease get some!)
2) stand BY THE FRONT DOOR to hand out treats
Do this a couple times and then keep it up NO EXCEPTIONS. Accidentally set the alarm off cooking? Treats by the door. Smoke alarm sound on TV? Treats by the door. Changing your smoke alarm batteries twice a year like youâre supposed to? Give them a test run and your pets get treats by the door.
Most dogs and cats will clue in VERY quickly that hearing that specific sound means go to the front door and wait for treats.
If thereâs an emergency and even if you leave by another way, you will still know the most likely place your pet(s) is and can direct first responders to help.
You can also do this for any other kind of emergency alarm. My friend had both her cats trained to go to the front door for a tsunami siren.
If you are receiving a warning that your password has appeared in a data breach from another site and is no longer secure, you will need to change your password to a stronger one before you can log back in.
If you are still logged in on any device, please make sure your email address is up to date before logging out or resetting your password, or you may lose access to your account.
Check below the cut for information on how to check or update your email address, and how to change or reset your password.

Please follow these steps to check and update your email address. If you don't know your password, or if your password is insecure, you will need to reset your password â which requires you to have access to your account's email address.
How do I check what my accountâs email address is?
If you are logged in:
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the âChange Emailâ button at the top of the page
Your email address will be listed on that page, next to âCurrent emailâ
If you are not logged in:
Check your email account for recent emails from AO3, such as subscription notifications or kudos and comment emails.
Look at the âTo:â field to see what email address is associated with your account.
You will need to enter this email address exactly as it is listed here in order to receive a password reset email.
How do I change my email address? What if I don't have access to my old email address?
You don't need access to your old email address to change it to a new one, as long as you also know your current password.
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the âChange Emailâ button at the top of the page
In both the âNew emailâ and âEnter new email againâ fields, enter an email address that you have access to
In the âPasswordâ field, enter your current password
Click the âConfirm Emailâ button
On the next page, make sure that the banner displays the correct new email address
Click the "Yes, Confirm Email" button
Check your new email address for an email titled â[AO3] Confirm your email changeâ
Click on the confirmation link in that email, making sure to open it in a browser where you are already logged in
Go to the âChange Emailâ page and double-check that your âCurrent emailâ has been successfully updated.
If you still see the banner saying your email change is pending, the most likely reason for this is that you were logged out before you clicked the confirmation link. Make sure to log in to your account before following the email confirmation link, or open the link in a browser where you are already logged in.
I know my current password, but I'm afraid my password is insecure. How can I change my password to a stronger one?
First, refer to the above instructions for checking or updating your email address, so that you can receive a password reset in case your password is insecure. Then:
Go to your Preferences page (Select "Hi, [USERNAME]!" at the top of the page, and choose "My Preferences" from the drop-down list)
Click on the âChange Passwordâ button at the top of the page
Enter your current password into the âOld passwordâ field
Enter your new password into both the âNew passwordâ and âConfirm new passwordâ fields
Click the âChange Passwordâ button
You will be automatically logged out on all devices.
If, upon logging in, you receive a message saying your password is insecure, then the new password you chose was insecure and you can't use it to log back in. You will need to reset your password (refer to the below instructions) and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I don't know my current password/my password is insecure, but I know and have access to my account's email address.
In a private/incognito browser, go to the Reset Password page: https://archiveofourown.org/users/password/new (also available by clicking the âForgot Password?â link on the login form)
Enter the email address associated with your AO3 account
Check your email for the password reset email
Click the âuse this link to create a new passwordâ link in the email
Enter a new, secure password
You will be automatically logged in on this device, and automatically logged out on all other devices.
If you continue to receive the message that your password is insecure, then the new password you chose was also insecure. You will need to reset your password again and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I tried resetting my password, but it didn't work. Help?
The most likely reasons the password reset didn't work are:
You are entering the wrong email address for your AO3 account. Refer to the above instructions on how to check what your account's email address is.
Your email provider is blocking emails from AO3 or sending them to spam/social folders. Search for an email titled â[AO3] Reset your passwordâ.
Your email account doesn't have enough storage and can't receive new emails. You'll need to delete old emails, photos, or videos to empty your storage before requesting a password reset.
You requested multiple password resets in a short time period, resulting in either a âRetry laterâ page or the link in the first password reset email becoming invalid. Please wait at least one hour before trying again, only submit the form once, and make sure you are using the link in the most recent password reset email.
The new password you chose was insecure, so you can't use it to log back in. You will need to reset your password again and select a more secure password this time. You can use a password generator to choose a stronger password.
I don't know my password/my password is insecure, and I don't know or have access to my account's email address.
You will need to submit a Support ticket containing the following information:
your username
your accountâs current email address (if you know it)
an email address that you can access and would like to update your account's email to (enter this email into the Email field so we can contact you)
Support will begin the account recovery process with you, which will ask you for further proof of account ownership. Please be patient, as there are many AO3 users who are also submitting account recovery tickets right now.
The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and theyâre frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
Iâm sorry but thatâs thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it⊠whoâs the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a momentâs notice?
But who is the single human cast member in this tale? Who gets to put in an Oscar-worthy performance alongside the Muppets and what role are they to play?
Thereâs no single human, everyone is a Muppet except for one scene. Circe, played by Janice, turns Odysseusâs crew into humans who still behave animalistic and are all played by Academy Award winning actors.
I didnât mean to offend you I just genuinely think youâd like what the ai did with the story, itâs really great and maybe even better than the first chapter! I also asked it to make fan art based on some of your shorter works and theyâre gorgeous, some of the best art Iâve ever seen. Ai isnât as bad as people think so if you ever realize that and change your mind I can still send it all to you!!! <3
i wasnât going to respond to this bc of how much it fucking pissed me off but i feel like this needs to be said.
donât ever come into a writersâ inbox and openly admit you used ai to, letâs face it, plagiarise their work. i donât CARE if you want it to be on my blog, you still fed it into an ai bot for your own gain. itâs fucking ridiculous that you blatantly ignored the rules on my page that state NOT to do this to my work.
also saying itâs âbetter than the first chapterâ sorry but fuck you?? first you steal my work and put it into ai and then basically say my works shit and ur ai slop is better???
i work full time, i dont tend to write all that often, hence why longer one-shots/fics are barely posted. sometimes all i can get out is a little drabble/blurb. and then sometimes i lose motivation for fics/seriesâ that iâve previously posted about. this doesnât give you an excuse to take my work and use ai to create your own. sometimes fics just donât get finished and you have to fucking deal with it. if i ever find the motivation again, i might post about it again, but if i donât, then donât use ai on my work. and especially donât use it to create fucking fanart on my other pieces.
tl;dr donât fucking steal my work and plagiarise it through fucking ai. i donât want your ugly nasty disgusting ai slop anywhere NEAR my blog and my content and my works.
I have just enough knowledge about archaeologists working for the American federal government to write the most boring stargate: SG1 fanfiction ever put to page. Everyone be thankful I have not inflicted it upon you.
It would also be a good opportunity to set the fanon record straight a bit. Nobody in the archaeology world would be shocked about an archaeologist working for the Air Force. Working for the federal government is one of the most normal career trajectories for archaeologists in the United States. If you search âarcheologistâ (note, the federal spelling omits the second âaâ for some bureaucratic reason) on USAJobs right now, 5 open positions come up. Two of them for the army.
Granted, Danielâs a bit of an odd case since he got run out of academic archaeology first instead of coming up via the CRM track, but still.
âWhy would the Air Force hire an archaeologist?â Is the wrong question. They (and every other branch of the military) have dozens of others for completely normal non-aliens reasons. (And no, im not talking about contractors. People performing Inherently Governmental Activities are gonna be civilian GS employees.) Some of them attend SAA events every year perfectly normally. Better question: why has nobody from the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office, the Office of the State Archaeologist, or the Ute tribe met this guy?
#basically there are a lot of people out there who think they know what Danielâs job is #and also think heâs terrible at it #âWhat do you mean Cheyenne mountain has had an archaeologist for TEN YEARS and heâs never emailed us once?â #<- statements overheard at SHPO
very strange cottage industry on youtube of giving exhaustive "critiques" of harry potter that amount to things like "the magic school is dangerous and that's bad!!!" and treating that with equal severity as the fatphobia or the slavery apologia, then patting themselves on the back as if this amounts to some kind of praxis
cinemasins is not praxis lol. how about materially supporting and protecting trans people from joanne and forgetting about her wizard books
I loved harry potter growing up. it made me feel seen as an abused and closeted kid. I idolized and looked up to joanne, wanting to become an author like her
then she started funnelling all her wizard book money into destroying the rights of my people and I resolved not to give her any more of my money
I didn't have to reevaluate the quality of her writing to do this. whether she's good at keeping her worldbuilding consistent or whatever has nothing to do with my decision to boycott her work. who cares how good or bad her writing is. she's killing trans people
I WORK in a library. And I read about twelve books at a time. And Iâm drafting a Harry Potter rebound reading list organized by genre and time period.
It isnât about the book; itâs that once the books meant something about love, justice and courage. Itâs a case where what we got out of the art was what we put into it. For some that was making music, for others creating charities and for those like me? Committing to be braver. And now that the art is tainted, no amount of writing quality will change that taint.
Thatâs why those videos saying the books were âalways badâ donât help. The book quality is the lower priority versus the author becoming Dolores Umbridge!
I was seconding op's point, not trying to tell you to do more. I agree that whether or not the books are good doesn't matter. Your reblog was the one put on my dash so it's the one I reblogged, I'm sorry (genuine).
Itâs okay. Iâm sorry too; so many people reblog judgmental stuff about HP fans, complete with recommending the books I read as a kid and adult, that I reacted with judgment rather than taking a step back. Definitely agree that libraries should be used more and saved.
