CAMPAIGN 4 CHARACTERS
if you need me I guess I'll be screaming about this art and these characters until the campaign actually starts
Ask stupid questions get dumb answers Caleb
T I M E S T O P
This episode really demonstrates why M9 won the battle royale. They really are nigh unkillable.
They are rolling like dogshit and losing spell slots left and right, have less PCs than the VM fight at the Key, have taken exhaustion points and soo much damage, and their healing is being sabotaged.
But they still managed to complete their encounter in less than 1 episode. They managed to avoid all the obstacles leading to the boss fight. They had no deaths.
This party build is legit insane. Theyre so mobile, cant pin them down. Their casters control the battlefield. Their tanks are basically immortal. They have 2 guaranteed Divine Interventions, 2 Mass Heals. They have 1 Vestige, and an unending well of tricks in Fjord and Veth. They are dripping with advantages, resistances, and rerolls.
Mighty Nein most qualified assholes for the job fr.
I understand the impulse to clown on Essek for walking around in Vasselheim with his recognizable voice with the Bright Queen's spearhead commander, and of course we could turn to the metatextual elements (the necessity of signposting the world for players on the part of the GM, the ease of using a familiar ally to introduce a relevant NPC and new point of contact) to dismiss this if we wanted, but I think it's more interesting—and funnier, as you'll see—to imagine this as simply an extension of the laws and logic that dictate the Mighty Nein as a narrative entity.
Fundamentally, the Mighty Nein within their campaign pursue personal and collective agency, often at the expense or in denial of political power. Where they do interact with more political forms of power, they evade its grasp upon them, most notably in their interactions with the war, but also while they engage with the Cerberus Assembly, the Cobalt Soul, and even the Revelry. The way they pursue agency, on the other hand, has far more to do with their own support of one another and their own individual power, especially where there is magic involved, and manifests in having the freedom to move and act as they wish in the world.
The culmination of this, as we know, is the mechanical ability in their final battle against Lucien and the Somnovem to manipulate the terrain of the battle map to their advantage with only imagination. At the same time, Jester and Caduceus can both call in free favors from their gods, one of whom is unlimited by the Divine Gate and in fact is far more governed by fey logic. Fjord has made three different divine pacts and is virtually unrestricted by any of them. Caleb's hallmark is an almost infinitely malleable home that almost literally seems to operate as a hammerspace, with a pinnacle dedicated to the potentiality of the universe, the application of which is one of his signature spells—against all odds successful in his initial goal, no longer fueled by guilt and grief, of bending reality to his will. It's narratively and thematically cogent that this be the calling card of the party as a whole.
The Mighty Nein are, in effect, dictated by Looney Tunes logic, and nothing else. They have been so successful in their pursuit of their own freedom that they no longer abide by the cosmic laws of Exandria, let alone the laws of physics or sense. So yes, from an external point of view, it does look exceedingly foolish for Essek to be traipsing around in Vasselheim under the Bright Queen's nose, but it's far more entertaining to argue that being a member of the Mighty Nein in fact simply confers the capability of ignoring the laws of reality without consequence when it's narratively convenient, characteristically interesting—or just really fucking funny.

Lay it on me, I wanna hear every Bi Fjord moment you're in the mood to list
This took me WAY longer than I intended because I kept forgetting to answer, but here's a listing of Bisexual Fjord Moments, incomplete because it is off the top of my head, ymmv:
owns a sword
felt that Shakäste calling everyone "baby" was charming - 2.09
winks at Molly, then slices through and kills a merrow that was lunging at Molly - 2.22
makes eye contact with Molly, then blows imaginary smoke off one of his Eldritch Blast finger guns - 2.22, since it's hard to find in the transcript by keyword: "As Molly looks over, I'm like (blows)"
the Eldritch Blast finger guns, multiple times
when asked in non-gendered terms about his sexual history, he answers in a way that remains unspecific about the genders of his previous sexual partners - 2.24
apparently finds Ophelia Mardoon hot: "What in the hot fuck is going on with her?" "[Beau:] I think hot fuck is actually very appropriate on a few levels." "[nods, 'fair']" - 2.30 (this is a Top Table Solidarity moment)
derailed a conversation to ask Jester (with sincere curiosity) about how many dicks she's seen, seconded Beau asking what the best dick she's seen was, then when she said Molly's dick, asked for details: "Was it tattooed?" - 2.32
finding Avantika hot is for the queers
when he suggests that he and Jester seduce Ludinus and Vess, he is unspecific which of them he imagines himself to be seducing (this is also a Bi Jester Moment, since she is also unspecific about who she agrees to seduce, they are bi4bi) - 2.49
incubus (male) appears in extremely attractive form to him - 2.54
apparently assumes that Caleb is hitting on him, is not not into it: "I appreciate you." "You what?" "Sometimes you have to get a little bit crazy." "What do you mean, right now?" - 2.57
unable to focus on anything other than how fantastic Jester's muscular arms look after she freshly gets her tattoo, while he's lying on the deck no less, favorite: "There's a lot of definition where your bicep meets your deltoid, it's—" - 2.84
jokes that Jester's longer horns giving her an intimidating look is why he finds her attractive - 2.118
propositions Lucien, attempting to get through to Molly - 2.139
whatever the FUCK was going on with Eadwulf - 2.141
I meant months ago to add a few more, and I'm finally getting to it:
We've literally all made the sword-swallowing joke, including Travis, so... - 2.16
When he inquires about hiring someone for sex, of which multiple genders were available, it does not occur to him to specify what gender of person is he interested in. - 2.24
When Jester points out Molly can have a room for himself, in case he wants to have sex, Molly and Fjord talk about roommate arrangements: "No, I mean half of me's interested, the other half's terrified, so I'm just kind of curious." - 2.24
flirts with the woman he's competing against in the drinking contest, not entirely clear why he does that: "I admit, I feel a little weak. I can't tell if it's the drink or if it's your beautiful visage sitting in front of me." - 2.24, this episode was extremely Fjord Is Bisexual for some reason
Half OOC, but when Liam starts coughing, Marisha responds in-character as Beau ("Still got saltwater from where Fjord goosed you?"). Fjord and Caleb have a quick exchange where Fjord apologized, then Fjord starts in, "Sorry. You've got to—," then Travis bails: "Nah, I'm not going to say it." When Marisha laughs, Travis finishes it for her, "Relax the throat." - 2.33
Engages in a flirtatious compliment competition with Marion and kisses her hand - 2.33
Darrow and his corndog - 2.90
Wore his hair long (mullet!), with a tiny ponytail, while aboard the Tide's Breath. Yes, I am counting this. - MNO: Fjord Stone
Essik is so tired. He’s just trying to answer an email from his boss…
i never post on tumblr anymore but I made this tonight. Excuse any typos as in character please, as I cannot spell.
this took way too long for how shitty of a meme this is but I saw someone say “the moon in the fucking sky?” And had a Revelation
rewatching the mighty nein and rewitnessing their amount of paranoia is so good. they walk into a 5 star hotel after a battle with the followers of the god of death and a total of 10 hit points and 3 spell slots between all of them and they're still casing their rooms. uv lights out, flipping beds and checking smoke detectors for cameras. they insight check every person they meet. they want to cast a truth spell on the oldest, most powerful and crustiest wizard in all of exandria. theyd rather impale themselves instead of giving up their weapons. theyd rather send a cat with 2 hit points that's determined to roll nat 1s on its perception rolls to check out evil lairs rather than going in themselves. they hate people scrying on them but they get annoyed when they fail doing it to others. they lie to most people they meet yet they're still 'trusted' by the two out of the three great powers on wildemount. no one's doing it like them.
A little mighty nein headcanon: one day yasha attempts to contact Veth using her supposed psychic link and gets quite sad when veth doesn't respond. Veth hears about this and enlists Caleb's help in enchanting a necklace or a bracelet to have sending built into it so that veth can really hear yasha when she tries to use her psychic link. They of course don't want to ruin the bit so they make it in her aesthetic and tell her its just a plain liece of jewelry but they got it for her as a present because it reminded them of her, knowing she will be sentimental enough to wear it for that reason alone. The first time veth responds to her "psychic link" yasha's face glows with joy. She and veth start having chats from time to time when they are cooking dinners, or tidying their houses. Miles apart but close at heart.
