Bienvenue! This is a sideblog from @cry-ptidd specifically for my OC, to answer questions about her in a sort of archival form of my writing on her. If anyone has any questions or wish to know more/write about her, they can come here to pick previous info.
Here, I will answer asks and RB previous questions about Laura's character, backstory and her relationships with other Hellsing characters, as well as more personal questions on her inspirations and themes. Please feel free to ask anything; I am open to everything.
â ïž Warnings: some responses and RBs might deal with heavy topics such as sexual assault, misogyny and religious trauma. All potentially triggering content will be tagged as such with the tags "tw sa"/"tw sa mention", "tw misogyny", "tw religious abuse", etc.
NSFW topics will be tagged as "cw nsfvv". I encourage anyone willing to send explicitly nsfw asks, and the previously mentioned triggering topics, to put a warning in parentheses beforehand shall anyone not willing to read such topics stumble upon them.
Is there any kind of creature/monster/supernatural species that Laura specifically hates? (Whether itâs canon or not within the Hellsing universe)
Other werewolves. Not only because her bite traumatized and cursed her, but also because she's territorial as hell and hates anything stealing her food. That's why the regions she's in are generally vampire-free.
Aside from that, anything slithery or slimy, or that uses mindfuckery like an incubus, or very fast and small targets. Her main method is to force her way through anything so she's pretty annoyed by things that can outspeed or outsmart her via magic.
Pip finds her creepy whereas Laura sees him as a nuisance. He tries to avoid her and she doesn't listen if he speaks. They grow to tolerate each other in the future, with her begrudgingly acknowledging his existence and Pip sometimes trying to poke and tease her to see how much it takes until someone loses a finger.
Does Laura ever go into civilization or does she just stay in Hellsing manor?
Integra insists on socializing her at least a minimum, though she's not stupid enough to let an unstable misanthropic werewolf go wild with civilians present considering her job is to take care (see: eliminate) of monsters and to not reveal the supernatural to the public. So Laura will go on grocery runs, alone or with Walter, and is allowed some freedom from time to time if she did a good job and they don't have obligations, where she mostly drinks or finds a partner for the night. She'd probably go cabin-crazy if she wasn't let out for too long and Integra doesn't want to risk that either, as much as she dreads the idea of Laura getting mad and killing a civilian.
How does Laura act around her favorite person(if she has one), and does she enjoy petting while in werewolf forms or she doesn't enjoy it?
She switches a lot between being adverse to touch and just plopping over you without a word - that is, if she really likes you. She doesn't necessarily have favorite people, but Integra comes pretty close to that. She would let integra pet her, even if it's a bit embarrassing in werewolf form. If she doesn't want to be touched, she's not really shy about making it known.
Greetings! I know that this is one of the first posts you made on the matter, but you said that Laura had a PSI biting force of 10K. And as a casual enthusiast when it comes to some animals, that raised my eyebrows because the strongest bite in the animal kingdom is the saltwater crocodile's, which comes in at 5,300 PSI.
Is her bite due to the sheer werewolf musculature of that form (that can be chalked up to just 'lore' reasons) or is it more to do with her musculature in general as the shape of the jaw and the muscles have a lot to do with how the PSI works. I'm sorry if I'm nerding out here, but I'm genuinely interested in your answer.
TEEHEE yes i did make research on bite forces and I'm very much a huge animal nerd.
It's mostly due to the sheer size of her wolf form which is basically a T-Rex (who had a supposed bite force of around 10-35k PSI though the answer varies with sources honestly) with fur, and the supernatural strength and resilience she has. Now, it's also important to remember that she IS a supernatural creature and keeps her unnatural strength even in her human form despite not matching the musculature, like how Alucard and Seras aren't walking muscle tanks despite being able to lift gigantic things pretty effortlessly, so it's better to not really expect a pure biological explanation outside of "plot bullshit".
Laura's bite force is about 25 times stronger than a normal wolf's, and her muscles are indeed extremely resilient. Werewolves have not only toughened skin but also their muscles are much denser than a normal creature's. Laura can bite through things effortlessly without any harm to her jaw or teeth due to that. It is much easier for her to bite in wolf form due to the wider range of her jaws though, even if chewing is easier in human form.
How did Laura experienced her transformation after being bitten ? Did her new physical features appeared immediately ou gradually ? Was she terrified and wanted to hide her new traits, like her fangs and body hairs, or did she actually enjoy it ?
Thanks for your work, love your art !
Thank you so much!!
And Laura's first transformation was actually after she killed the monks in the abbey, letting go of her inhibitions and mental shackles. It was in equal parts thanks to the meat she had ingested that gave her the strength to fully transform for the first time.
As for her post-bite state, she was in the 18th century French village equivalent of intensive care for two weeks. People were shocked by the physical changes that had occurred, mostly her teeth and body hair, and her eyes which seemed odd and wild. Laura wasn't very cognizant during that time, but after she started to recover, she was extremely ashamed and distressed about the changes to her body. She didn't let anyone approach her too close or see her nude. It's important to note that Laura had suppressed her lycanthropy the best she could for several years in her attempt at salvation.
Back to her first transformation, she was once again in a completely unhinged state of mind; her wolf form was done out of pure instinct, which is why it looks so stretched out and disproportionate, and it specifically sprouted from under her skin, like a deformation of her own body into a more bigger, dangerous beast.
Now, she is very unabashed about her body â or, at least, the lycanthropic traits she has.
I'd say, being stuck, pregnancy, being touched without permission, and crowds (especially if the attention is on her). She used to be skittish about worms as a human but she got over it.
I like to think Laura and her old lover survived through it all, Hellsing never happened and they are two wolves living life in the wilderness đ. Anyway my ask is how did Laura survive her transformation?
This is a funny ask considering it was sent right after the previous one, maybe in another timeline they could've been actual wolves prancing sillily in the forest
As for Laura, one of the consistent things in her story is how stupidly resilient she is. She didn't survive her transformation or the two shots because she's special or divinely gifted in some way, it just happened for better or for worse. One explanation could be that she's very healthy and her physical condition on top of her undying will could've been factors, which sounds simple but I suppose everyone's bodies are different. Maybe it's just a cruel twist of fate, who knows.
I thought about how Lauraâs life might have turned out if her beloved hadnât died.
And for some reason, it seemed to me that if she had survived, things might have been even worse. Augustine had no desire to become a werewolf, even though she didnât see them as evil or repulsive creatures. Because of love â and because of her transformation â she would have become an outcast, forced either to eat people or to die. Laura, having fallen in love, would have cared for her, but would that really have been enough? In the end, I thought that God was merciful for allowing Augustine to die â merciful both to her and to Laura.
Yes, I believe so too. Laura's decision was selfish, she wanted her lover by her side no matter what. Augustine didn't even have much time to think about it, barely a couple days to even process the idea of immortality and having to eat people to survive, what it would mean for her soul but also her life. Augustine was a kind person that valued companionship, and her biggest grief was that she had been shunned by her family whom she loved. Her life would've surely been a lonely one if she had fully turned, and she'd surely have come to resent it and herself, and possibly even Laura.
You once wrote that Laura had a meaningful emotional relationship with a woman. After turning, Laura seduced nuns. There was also art of Laura crying over a nun, whom she most likely killed. This nun was described as toxic, if I'm not mistaken, in one of the posts. Oh my god, I beg you, tell me what happened!
P.S. Will there be posts where Laura answers questions herself? Or something like that? Can we ask questions to her, not about her?
YES, IT IS ABOUT TIME I SPEAK OF HER. Also, the nun wasn't toxic, Laura was lol. This story will be a feast of Laura's intimacy issues.
And I absolutely can reply to asks as Laura; it could be helpful if anyone wishes to write about her, to pin down how she speaks and thinks. I'll create a new tag about it: #Laura speaks.
Anyhoo!
Meet Augustine.
Augustine was a baker's daughter Laura met in 1861 near Loire-Atlantique. She was a spunky young woman of 25 years of age that had met Laura when she was scoping out a city from the forest. She had a very determined, well-intentioned and slightly eccentric personality, and didn't really take shit from anyone which often led to her being reckless. She lived with her parents where she helped out around the bakery, and had an older brother named EugĂšne who had left to try and pursue an education. Despite being working class, they were rather well-off thanks to their work. She secretly wished she could pursue an education like her brother, but they didn't have enough money to send her away, and it would be difficult for her as a lower class woman to be accepted anywhere.
(Her design is also rather similar to Laura's mother; that is a coincidence, and she was designed before Anne. I just think that the blonde hair and brown eyes combo is neat.)
Please prepare for an absolute FANFIC of a post because I've thought of their relationship so much. âŹïž
(TWs for internalized lesbophobia, homophobia and religious abuse.)
Augustine spotted Laura in the tree line when she was out on a walk. Seeing that Laura was naked and had started to panic and tried to help her, thinking she had gotten robbed or assaulted. Laura was extremely surprised by Augustine giving her her outer shirt and skirts, to the point she couldn't find anything to say and was too surprised to react when she was rushed into Augustine's parents' bakery for help. Laura realized her predicament then, and smelled that the baker had a rifle somewhere in the building, so she was in a bit of a pickle. She knew by now that she had to lay low, and just killing those guys in the middle of town was a BAD idea. She tried to explain that she was fine and struggled to find excuses for her aforementioned nudity, but managed to assure Augustine and her parents that she was unharmed and there was no need to call in anyone else; she was just a traveler whose clothes got stolen when she was bathing in a river, and she was trying to get new ones in town. Despite it, Augustine insisted on giving Laura shelter for the night as well as access to food, a bath and proper clothes and shoes, and wouldn't take no for answer. Follows a very awkward Laura trying to come up with a fake life to explain her situation and presence to a normal family for a whole evening, and just settles on telling them it's none of their business.
In the night, Laura snuck out of the house, intending to leave for another town because that whole situation had rattled her. Augustine heard her leave however, and followed her into the forest. There, Laura almost attacked her but couldn't find it in her to kill Augustine outright. Augustine, however, saw that Laura clearly wasn't human â and instead of screaming and trying to run away, she was fascinated (scared, but fascinated), which threw Laura off even more. Augustine tried to uncover more about Laura because what the fuck, a werewolf. Laura was extremely perplexed by the whole situation, and it clearly wasn't her evening, so she followed the little voice inside her head and ran off into the forest. She was extremely emotionally disturbed by the affair, and didn't get any sleep that night.
The next morning however, Laura returned to where they had met, if only out of sheer curiosity (or at least that's the excuse she came up with), and was surprised to find Augustine there too. What followed was another awkward meeting, where Laura was hounded with questions by a very interested and enthusiastic Augustine. It was very, very strange for Laura to have anyone else make the first move and not show any fear even when Laura tried to intimidate her with her teeth and claws and told her she could eat her in an instant. Augustine tried to coax Laura out of the woods again, but she refused, and left again. In the following days Augustine tried to meet up with Laura again, but couldn't find her; eventually they found each other again, with Laura telling her she was an idiot for being so stubborn, and Augustine pointing out Laura came back on her own. They started to hang out from time to time after that, though their meetings were often short.
Their relationship started to grow in the following months, where their rendezvous grew longer, to the point Augustine would come and stay with Laura in the woods before going home. Laura was a cold person even then, but let Augustine stay around her, saying it was her own fault if she got hurt. She tried to push Augustine away, even threatening her or saying hurtful things in hopes that Augustine would lose interest and turn on her, which would give Laura a mental reason to just kill her (Laura also hadn't eaten anyone but the local cattle since she arrived in that town, and didn't really know why). However Augustine fought back, reprimanding Laura while refusing to give up on her, which made Laura even more frustrated about her feelings. She however never hurt Augustine physically, due to her refusal to infect anyone with lycanthropy, and her teeth and claws were basically poisonous; that's also why, alongside her trauma, she's rather touch-adverse. Augustine also didn't want to let Laura go because she recognized how hurt she was, and didn't want her to be alone again.
Laura eventually grew comfortable enough to allow Augustine to touch her, and while she didn't open up about her story, they started to share their feelings a little. They started to get closer, to the point where Laura tried to seduce Augustine, thinking surely this would be the breaking point for her and she'd be disgusted by her; she still saw her own sexuality as sinful, which is why she went for nuns and married women in the first place. Despite her own growing feelings for Augustine where she genuinely started to feel happy around her, she still was distrustful of her and waited for the other shoe to drop, and besides Augustine dying would surely rid her of these confusing emotions that make her so vulnerable. Augustine however was open to it, and wondered if Laura had some seduction powers; she didn't know how to deal with those feelings either, but was adamant on staying by Laura's side. Their relationship was secret anyway, and trying out a bit couldn't hurt.
They were both very inexperienced romantically, and basically behaved like teenagers kissing in the bathroom before running off. Their relationship was surprisingly genuine and innocent, and Laura eventually initiated their intimate relationship as well. They'd meet in secret, either in the woods or after dark in Augustine's family's property or other secretive spots. It had gotten to a point where Laura even transformed in front of Augustine to show her her wolf form; Augustine was both scared and amazed, which made Laura feel even more understood and accepted.
However, one day, Augustine's father caught them after a moment of intimacy in their barn, and had flipped the hell out. He chased Laura out, who escaped into the woods, and Augustine was forcefully outed to her family. Her mother and father agreed to send Augustine to a convent, less out of religious belief and more to pray the gay away/as conversion therapy within a conservative environment. Augustine was of course distraught, but had not much choice in the matter, and so she moved to a convent away from town, becoming a catholic nun.
After this, her and Laura didn't talk for several weeks â mostly because Laura didn't know where Augustine had gone. She had started to wonder if Augustine had gotten sick of her, or that her parents kept her away from her, and briefly pondered to brute-force her way through again, but resolved to spy on the family and see where her lover had gone. After noticing Augustine wasn't living with them (by breaking into the house at night), she started to look for her.
After those several werks, she had managed to find the convent Augustine was at. Sneaking into the nunnery, she managed to find Augustine alone after hours. Their reunion was a bit bittersweet. Augustine was clearly very mentally affected by the situation, and she didn't know if staying around Laura was a good idea because it had gotten her in this much trouble, and her relationship with her parents was never going to be the same; Laura was really relieved on her end, and refused to let her go. Augustine tried to set her foot down though and their relationship grew a bit strained with quite a handful of fights. However, they genuinely loved each other, and so fell back to each other's presence again â Laura because she wanted to keep Augustine, and Augustine because she wanted to get her mind off of this situation. They had started once again their clandestine affairs, hiding after hours and trying to sneak out again; but evidently that was much more difficult in a convent where Augustine had limited freedom.
Eventually, Augustine had a breakdown, distraught by the mess of the situation and everything that had happened, and just wished to disappear and never see the convent again. Laura, disturbed and upset by her lover's sorrow, made a very impulsive choice: suggest to bite Augustine to turn her into a werewolf as well, so they could run away together. Augustine didn't know how to react, too emotionally unstable to properly think it through, and Laura insisted upon it, promising her strength and safety and longevity, not wanting to lose her. Eventually Augustine relented, just wanting to go away.
However, as I've mentioned in my fanlore for werewolves â the survival rates of lycanthropy are... strict, to say the very least.
Laura and her lover escape from the convent one night, and Augustine was bitten on the wrist in the forest. The pain was so unimaginable that Laura had to keep her gagged to not wake anyone from Augustine's screams and cries. Laura herself had to try and prevent herself from having flashbacks to her own turning, carrying an agonized Augustine from forest to forest for days. Being in a rural area that was still rather populated, they had trouble finding a place to stop by and rest. A couple days later, Laura stopped in a wheat field near a village to gather any possible food or supplies. Augustine had stopped crying for a few hours, and they were both exhausted. When Laura laid Augustine down to rest, she realized that she wasn't responsive. She tried not to panic, remembering that she herself had almost died several times during her turning, and tried to tend to Augustine with very little experience. Coming back with the carcass of a farm animal she had stolen in the nearby village, Laura tried to tend to her lover, but found Augustine cold and still.
Laura went into shock, and in her denial tried everything she could to revive Augustine, safe for asking for anyone's help, to no avail. She spent an entire day in denial trying to get her to wake up, from trying to bite her again to making cross effigies with sticks to even trying to hurt her physically in an attempt to cause any kind of physical reaction, to once again no avail.
When night fell, Laura was still there, and with rigor mortis taking hold of Augustine's body, there wasn't much place left for denial. So, in her grief, she decided to make Augustine part of her for one last time, by eating her body, also ensuring that no one else could possibly tamper with her remains. It was the last time, precedented only by when she got shot by her father, that Laura had cried.
She enjoys cooking, puzzles and reading. She also recently discovered music and enjoys riot grrrl bands and anything very high-pitched like those nightcore/chipmunk covers from the early 2000s
you mentioned that werewolves need to eat human flesh to keep up their strength. Does helsing have to keep a supply of bodies on hand for Laura or does she get enough hunting opportunities to make do? Does ghoul or vampire flesh work?
Laura's diet consists of either ghouls (as they're just human corpses and she can handle the rot), enemies found on battlefields or the rare burglar/assassin that was skilled enough to get past military-grade guards â her favorites. Vampires are also on the menu, and frankly whoever stands in her way. She's not picky as long as it's meat from anything resembling a humanoid. Alucard also usually keeps a corpse or two when he can from his missions, and brings them to Laura like a hunter bringing deer to a cook. He takes the blood, she takes the meat.
Is silver the only weakness of werewolves in fanlore? I know the silver bullet was mostly popularized by The Wolfman but I wonder if there are also any folkloric anti-werewolf stuff werewolves could potentially have an Issue with (like how anti-septic plants such as garlic flowers and wild roses are used against vampires but don't kill them)
Historically mistletoe was also used to ward off werewolves, and there have been other myths that made the rounds on tumblr a few years ago like how a person beloved by the werewolf calling out to them would make them transform back. There are also the medieval Christian and even much earlier myths of people cursed to turn into werewolves for seven years and if they don't eat anyone within that time frame, they transform back into human â which is why Laura stayed in the abbey nearly seven years but snapped before.
However, I don't know if Hellsing's werewolves specifically have any other weaknesses than silver.
