Bacchino Malato (Caravaggio, 1593)
My favourite thing about this post is that someone saw those photos of that cat and went “ah yes, I know exactly which 15th century Baroque painting this reminds me of”

Asra and Fan Apprentice (belongs to @purehoneydollop )
It’s been almost a year since the end of an art raffle on tumblr that I made, and the only thing that I drew was the prize for the first place. I know that it’s not that great, but all previous attempts all ended in a complete mess. This final one i am actually SATISFIED with.

American Girl stories were the best tbh
Dude, read the books, she and her mom freed themselves in Book 1. We don’t disrespect American Girl in this house
Don’t you dare disrespect Addy, or any of my girls for that matter. American Girl used to be legit. Good stories, good dolls, good movies.
Felicity’s story was set in the beginnings of the American Revolution, and addressed the conflict that she faced when her loved ones were split between patriots and loyalists. It also covered the effects of animal abuse, and forgiving those who are unforgivable.
Samantha’s stories centered around the growth of industrial America, women’s suffrage, child abuse, and corruption in places of power. Also, it emphasises how dramatically adoption into a caring family can turn a life around.
Kit’s story is one of my favorites. Her family is hit hard by the Great Depression, and they begin taking in boarders and raise chickens to help make ends meet. Her books include themes of poverty, police brutality, homelessness, prejudice, and the importance of unity in difficult times.
Molly’s father, a doctor, is drafted during the Second World War. Throughout her story, friends of hers suffer the loss of their husbands, sons, and brothers overseas. Her mother leaves the traditional housewife position and works full-time to help with the war effort. They also take in an English refugee child, who learns to open up after a life of traumatic experience.
American Girl stories have always featured the very harsh realities of America through the years. But they’re always presented honestly, yet in ways that kids can understand. They just go to show that you don’t have to live in a perfect time to be a real American girl.
Dont you fucking dare disrespect the American Girls in my house. ESPECIALLY Addy!! That was my first REAL contact with the horrors of slavery, as I read about her father being whipped and sold and her mother escaping with her to freedom, but also how freedom was still a struggle.
A slave doll. Please. Read the books.
Don’t forget Kirsten, the Swedish immigrant who had to deal with balancing her own culture and learning the english language and customs of her classmates, or Kaya (full name Kaya'aton'my, or She Who Arranges Rocks) , the brave but careless girl from the Nez Perce tribe, or Josefina, the Mexican girl learning to be a healer.
And then there are the later dolls, that kids younger than me would have grown up with (I was just outgrowing American Girl as these came out), like Rebecca, the Jewish girl who dreams of becoming an actress in the budding film industry, or Julie, who fights against her school’s gender policy surrounding sports in the 70s, or Nanea, the Hawaiian girl whose father worked at Pearl Harbor.
These books, these characters, are fantastic pictures into life for girls in America throughout the years, they pull no punches with the horrors that these girls had to face in their different time periods, and in many cases I learned more history from these series than social studies at school. And that’s without even mentioning the “girl of the year” series where characters are created in the modern world to help girls deal with issues like friend problems, moving, or bullying. We do NOT disrespect American Girl in this house.

Soup inspired by food in Studio Ghibli films part 97.
I juuuust want to eat every food they’ve ever animated, particularly the soup.

Melt 2tbsp butter in a large soup pot. Dice and cook 1 chicken breast until cooked through and a bit brown. Remove and set aside.
Dice a sweet onion, three carrots, two cups-ish red potatoes.
Melt 2tbsp butter in the same pot used to cook the chicken, add diced onion, carrots, potato and cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
Add 4 cloves minced garlic, cook 2 minutes.
Add 1 tsp each dry sage, oregano, basil, 3 bay leaves, 1tbsp fresh rosemary (rosemary is optional, do not substitute dry rosemary). Salt and pepper to taste, you can adjust s&p at the end.
Add 1 can corn, 1 can green beans, 1 cup cauliflower chopped into tiny florets, stir.
Add 5 cups chicken broth, bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer/low boil type situation, cover and cook for 20 minutes.
Turn heat to low and wait for it to stop boiling completely then add 1 26oz can cream of mushroom and ¾ cup milk.
Put the cooked chicken back in and cook on low for five minutes.
The end!

I can’t wait to make this!!!
Here’s a work in progress!! I love how it’s turning out so far!
I FINISHED IT
It tastes so amazing oh my goodness. I’m so glad I made this recipe! It was so fun and simple! Perfect for this strangely snowy October day!
I’m so glad you liked it!
When EMTs and film/tv production crew comment on twitter threads about Amazon warehouse working conditions like “I work 12 hour shifts too, suck it up” like…………guys. You shouldn’t be working 12 hour shifts either. As few people as possible should be working 12 hour shifts
THIS. Medical professions ESPECIALLY.
Ok but I really, really don’t want to be treated by a medical professional who’s on the later end of a 12 hour shift?! Like that isn’t even just about worker’s rights, an exhausted EMT or nurse or surgeon is a lot more likely to mess up and get their patients killed, who the fuck thought shifts like that were a good idea
Signs of a heart attack are different for each gender yet we only really teach the male warning signs. Make sure you’re aware of both and spread it to as many other women as possible!
EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE TAKEN A CPR CLASS I have had to be that person who points out that the training videos ALWAYS frame the “male” symptoms as the default universal heart attack experience, while the “female” symptoms are framed as though they’re a deviation from the norm, rather than the primary symptom set that cis women experience.
ALSO: I just showed this post to my roommate, who is an MD at a clinic that specializes in care for the LGBT community in the Baltimore area. I asked her whether hormones were responsible for the difference in the “male/female” symptom arrays. I asked how that would apply to her trans patients (which, she treats a LOT of trans patients). She said, basically, that the longer you’ve taken testosterone the more likely you are to get the intense chest pressure and the arm pain, versus the upper back pressure and shortness of breath.
Obviously I am not a doctor myself, consult your own health care provider, etc.
Reblogging this comment because this is the FIRST TIME I’ve ever seen someone address what XYZ medical condition would look like in trans patients. Also this is partly why my great-grandma died: the (male) doctor dismissed her heart attack as basically indigestion, because she didn’t have the typical male symptoms.
Oh my God someone was able to answer the trans patient question!
