I really hate having a crush on my best friend. Not because I think it’s wrong to love your friends or anything, no, never that. But because of how torturous it feels. Why is she so beautiful? How can she look so ethereal with nothing but a smile? Why must I know I don’t have a chance?
She’s beautiful, intelligent, hardworking, compassionate, and kind and I’m none of those. Life puts her down and she keeps getting back up, life puts me down and I wallow in self pity. She’s so gorgeous and I’m just me, she’s so smart and I failed calculus, she’s hardworking and I don’t have a job because my boss didn’t pay on time and I got upset, she’s doing national competitions for her internships and I haven’t left my home state in God knows how long.
I really hate how I love someone I can never have. It’s cruel, almost. I’m a pale imitation of everything she’s amazing at trying to compare to the real thing. It
I tell her I love her and she says it back but she doesn’t know I’m saying it beyond just friends, I ask her what she’d do if a friend of hers confessed but she doesn’t know I’m testing to see if it’s worth the risk it never is, I ask her her type and she asks mine but she doesn’t know it’s because part of me is still delusional she’d say yes.
It’s pitiful honestly. Someone like me having a crush on someone so far beyond me, it’s like comparing a dying candle to a star. But the more I try to forget it the worse it gets, there’s nothing left to do but hate myself for it.
