"rickrolling is mean" rickrolling is the gentle, kind, prosocial descendant of what we used to do on the internet, which was putting a redirect to goatse in every possible misspelling of a url
Rickrolling is a beautiful achievement in collective disarmament. We designated a perfectly pleasant pop song as The Prank Song, we agreed that if someone tricks you into listening to it, that means they Owned You, and now no one has to look at goatse anymore.
I think part of the reason shits falling apart is that everyone kind of acknowledged that the little tales we tell ourselves to propagate the world, recreate our means, etc were contingent on our ability to lie to ourselves. I heard a quote from a historian, stating that countries could only function because of the written word- in that the "story" of a country can unify people who dont know each other. Now I think the big generational divide is believing in any of that- the desire for family, children, work- is rooted in a lot of fables about how itll work out, the purpose it gives you, etc. but now that the reward for pursuing those goals is so low, the cost so high, and the actual machine behind them so known through mass media consumption forces folk to confront the WHY of it. and most people arent built for that, god knows im not, so they find other lies to piece it together- doctors want you dead, liberals want a new world order of white slavery, homeschooling your child prevents them from being gay, etc. instead of the HANDFUL of broad stories now we have 7.5 million different algorithmically curated ones

Oh my gosh I love it... that really is baby
making out with the girl a decade older than you and making her call you mom is always the right thing to do. and make sure she knows you're the one in charge at all times ok?
> Get into color grading
> realize every screen displays color slightly differently
> realize every camera captures color a little differently
> realize every format and image editor translates color
> realize every printer deposits ink differently
> realize every kind of paper accepts ink differently
> realize colors look completely different under different lighting conditions
> ok I'm going to do everything greyscale now
> black density changes as ink cartridge depletes and depending on viscosity after multiple prints

thank god vampirism is a flexible metaphor
it’s about being queer it’s about surviving assault it’s about alienation and most of all it’s about how everyone who loved you before might not be able to even look at you now, no matter how many times you try to explain that you didn’t ask to die and you didn’t ask for that death to leave you only half-eaten when it got bored of you.
This is without even mentioning the broader metaphorical implications of disease and contagion; foreign invasion; colonial or imperial violence; interpersonal abuse; generational trauma; religious trauma; violent cultural assimilation; repressed or suppressed desire; the fear of no longer being able to recognise or relate to someone you love; and on and on and on.
Vampirism is a flexible metaphor that reflects the anxieties and desires of its age and its authors, and I love that for it!
not to be rude but some of y'all need to look on the bright side sometimes. like, yeah sure the world is fucked and people suck and we all die whatever, sure, but like. go outside.
ok i phrased this poorly, hang on.
i'm not saying the cure for depression is touching grass. however, if you surround yourself with sad things and talk about how terrible life is and how much you're suffering and never take a breath and remember it's not all bad, you'll end up making yourself worse.
like, i've been diagnosed with clinical depression, and anxiety, and insomnia, and chronic pain, and a million other things that get in the way of me having a simple fucking good day, but you know what?
i watch videos that make me happy and wear pretty clothes and cut my hair in fun styles and do my makeup and drink strawberry tea and take two showers a day and i look on the bright side because goddamnit if god is trying to break me down, he'll have to try harder.
i see so many people talk about how sad they are, who make their depression their first priority, and i get it, i really do, but you know that is actively harming your mental state, right? please, just do something nice for yourself, think positively for one day. i promise things get better when you step back and breathe.
