i just watched the new netflix season two of avatar and overall i enjoyed it but there are certain parts i really don’t like, i hateee the way it handles Azula Mai and Ty Lee ( this is nothing against the actors i think they did really good )

but what do you mean Azula made Mai and Ty Lee almost kill eachother in their first scene together?!?! and they actually try and do it too?!?! i refuse to believe any of them would do that

obviously Azula is by no means friend of the year or anything but she would never just make them kill eachother to “prove their loyalty” they were already her closest friends which is why she went with them in the first place

and the way Mai talks about it later after she tells Azula that Zukos in the cave and Ty Lee is like “don’t you kind of love zuko?” and Mai says “well i love you, and i would’ve killed you” like huh?? is this supposed to be the same “i love zuko more than i fear you mai”???

also it butchers Jets character too and has him launch an attack on a group of innocent fire nation refugees which makes no sense for his character cause all he did in the Og was try and prove zuko and iroh were fire benders and report them

but it turns that moment into a big blue spirit and painted lady moment ( cause those are happening at the same time now ) and i hope they don’t actually try and make a love triangle out of it like come on AtlA is the last thing that needs a love triangle

but do kinda like how it’s sews a bit of conflict between Azula and Ozai which kind of made me think they wanna go down the Azula redemption route which i’d love but it also makes her way more evil and actually just kill a bunch of people so i don’t know what they’re trying to do there

but it is interesting cause they also show that in this one Ursa actually cared for Azula too and when she left she did try and bring Zuko and Azula with her but Azula panicked leading them to get caught, and she does get upset when she’s Ursa is taken and she actually apologizes to him in the cave for it

but i did like how we got a Yangchen and Kyoshi moment with the gaang in the library ( it’s already in the spirit world ) and it mentioning some their lore from the novels like Bin Er for Yangchen and how she BROUGHT UP KAVIK!!!!!

for Kyoshi she just mentioned that her parents weren’t good people and abandoned her, but we did get to see toph stan Kyoshi

As much as I love Aang and Atla I wish that more people just liked the avatar universe. I’m more excited to see Kyoshi stuff and the new avatar than more Aang stuff. But people are so caught in their nostalgia that they can’t move past Aang. This is also why Korra got so much hate because people are so obsessed with the Atla characters and what the show itself meant to them as a child that they don’t appreciate the universe as a whole.

question for all the artists here, i’ve been feeling the urge to learn how to draw again but like how do you go about that, like what are the steps you can take and specific things you can practice to actually improve?

when i tried learning before i found that a lot of the advice was just pretty vague and didn’t really help much

as much as i love the thought of ( and definitely believe that ) Yangchen and Kavik get together romantically, i saw something earlier that put the idea of queerplatonic Yangvik in my mind and i can’t stop thinking about it.

i just re watched ATLA ( now on Korra ) and i’ve been binging reactions cause i wanna see what people think about Azula and my god i forgot how many people hate her, ive heard disgusting language used for her and have only seen a few people actually be sympathetic and feel bad for her, let alone understand her as a character

i’m tired of the way most of the fandom still act as if she’s a uniquely evil irredeemable monster even though she’s not any worse than Zuko or Iroh before their redemptions ( and they’ve arguably done worse than her )

i feel like the fact that iroh openly admits he does not care for her like when he said “she’s crazy and she needs to go down” has a part to play in the way people view her since iroh is a god in the fandom and his word is gospel to people so they take that as like confirmation that she’s irredeemable ( which is ironic coming from mr dragon of the west )

something else that annoys me is when people try and bring up the comics to “prove” that she doesn’t want a redemption / rejected the opportunity ( even though she does show baby steps towards redemption ) but zuko did too, couldn’t him betraying iroh even after Katara was like “i thought you changed” also be see as him “rejecting his redemption”? but it still happened for him so why isn’t it possible for her?

i know it’s probably never gonna happen but i’m still holding out for an Azula redemption

Another fancomic by me, this time about Kelsang and Kyoshi. A love letter to the novel, and also to those who grief for the people they missed.

OK I keep seeing everyone posting this picture and saying Azula is fucked, I'm not here to refute that. In fact, I'm here to clarify how exactly she is fucked.

Warning: Rise/Shadow of Kyoshi Spoilers

1. Kyoshi is literally 7 feet tall. Girl was 6'6 at age 17.

2. Kyoshi didn't learn how to bend until she was 16 despite having known she was a bender. Why? BECAUSE SHE WAS ONLY ABLE TO BEND HUGE PIECES OF EARTH LIKE FUCKING MOUNTAIN SIZE PIECES OF EARTH. She couldn't bend small stuff so she decided it was just safer to not use her bending.

3. She learned water bending from Kirima, AN ACTIVE GANG MEMBER

4. She learned fire bending from her girlfriend Rangi who WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE WHO WAS NOT ONLY PREVIOUS AVATAR'S FIRE BENDING TEACHER BUT THE FIRE LORDS BENDING TEACHER WHO JOINED AN OUTLAW GANG AT 16 DESPITE HAVING GROWN UP

5. She had three earth bending teachers all of which were OUT LAWS IN A FUCKING GANG. One of the guys taught Kyoshi much more advanced things like LEARNING HOW TO LIVE FOREVER!? This was because he himself was PROBABLY THOUSANDS OF FUCKING YEARS OLD. Not only did he TEACH HIMSELF IMMORTALITY, the hundreds if not thousands of years he spent alive he worked AS AN ASSASSIN WHO TRAVELED THE WORLD KILLING HUGE POLITICAL FIGURES WHO HAD CAUSED SUFFERING.

6. Kyoshi is the descendents of an Hark and earth bender and Jessa an air bender. Hark and Jessa were THE LEADER OF A GANG THAT WAS AT ONE POINT THE MOST DANGEROUS. Because Jessa was an Air bender doing bad things made it harder for her to bend so she just INVENTED A WAY SO IT WOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE BY USING FANS.

7. Kyoshi didn't learn she was the avatar until she was 16 and instead of introducing herself and being like hey im the avatar not this other dude SHE JOINED A FUCKING GANG AND PUT OF AIDING WORLD PEACE JUST TO GET REVENGE.

8. She got sick of watching men harass women, as well as the way the earth kingdom treated queer people so she taught a bunch of women self defense and they BANDED TOGETHER IN HER NAME AND MADE THE KYOSHI WARRIORS who would carry on her legacy.
