Contemplating the Sisyphean task of reading every piece of lore on Ishtar Collective and how long that would take me. I've already read like. 300 of the ones under Misraaks. I've read the Books of Sorrow like. 4 times. Surely there's not that much more, right... jk. I haven't figured out yet if there's a way to sort by date added. Like starting with D1 stuff and going through all the way to Renegades in "publishing" order. There's so much good lore out there, just waiting to be plucked and eaten...

This. This is something I see people not understanding. Folks seem to increasingly want fiction to model correct behavior for them. Which, sure, can be something for fiction to do, but what fiction is really really good at is creating a model of a situation that allows you to experience a bad, messy, complicated thing, and see what people did, and how it turned out, and imagine what you would've done instead. Even more powerfully, it gives you something you can show someone else or point to and they'll have a shared understanding. Stories can give you stuff to think about so that you grow from experiences you didn't even have.

That's a real superpower of storytelling. Neutering it of that ability is just....a waste of potential.

Maybe this is me barking up the wrong tree (I'm not saying anything said above me is wrong, it's all great!), but I've noticed a stark increase of people in my personal life in recent years who cannot handle any sort of negativity or bad morality in their media. And most of these people, who will sometimes tell me that they physically can't watch sad or scary or problematic media, are also often extremely closed off from the world at large and what's going on in it. They don't follow the news, don't keep up with politics at all, and more often than not shut down conversations about these things.

I think for a lot of these people the state of the world is so overwhelming nowadays and they're not mentally or emotionally capable of navigating those topics without it destabilizing them or making them uncomfortable. I think they purposefully seek out happy or unproblematic media to avoid things that make them think deeply about themselves and the state of the world.

Media literacy is part of it yes, but I also think when people stop themselves from viewing or doing anything that makes them uncomfortable or challenges their assumptions that there is a much larger issue going on beneath the surface. When you can't look at the suffering of a fictional character without turning off the movie, how can you look at the suffering of other, real people in the world? You don't. You shut it out.

SEC. 2(a)(1)(B): Requiring age verification to even use an operating system creates a mandatory "hardware lockout" that ends anonymous computing and forces users to hand over sensitive identification data to major corporations just to power on their devices.

SEC. 2(a)(3): Mandating that OS providers create a system for all app developers to access verification data is a massive security vulnerability. This effectively creates a centralized API of user identities accessible to thousands of third-party developers, many of whom may lack adequate data protection.

This bill does not protect children; it creates a centralized surveillance infrastructure at the OS level. I urge you to protect the privacy of your constituents and vote NO on H.R. 8250.

This is a hell that us down under in Australia are already living in, and it’s not even effective at what it claims to do in protecting children.

Given that, in the wake of this mandatory identification policy, my country seems to be moving to hand over its citizens biometric data, like fingerprints, Face ID files, and identification documents, over to the USA and to ICE to maintain the visa free travel (ESTA) we have, I strongly urge any US resident to send these emails, or make calls.

But if you can’t do that, the most powerful thing you can do is spread the word. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, anyone who can help.

My reach will likely be small, and so I don’t know if this will mean very much in the grand scheme of things, but I cannot stand to see this tracking happen to another population as it did to mine.

And if you think it won’t affect you, it will. All anonymity goes out the window when your accounts can be linked via your personal ID

I wish you all luck in preventing this act from going through.

I was 13 years old when D1 came out.

From the moment I first opened the game, I knew that it was going to leave an impact on me. The wonder and mystery of exploring a world like this influenced me both as an artist and a person in ways I'll probably never be able to summarize in a post like this.

The characters and the story and everything in between became the cornerstone of most of the creative choices I make, even now. I'd always been a fan of shooters, but this one in particular drew me in like no other game has since. Tbh, it became a lot more than just a game to me; Destiny has become such an integral part of my life during the past 12 years.

I grew up. So did Destiny. After the jump to D2, I'd fallen off for a while cause life had just gotten too busy for me to hop on. But even when I wasn't playing, I always kept up with the game in some way. It was like checking in on an old friend and seeing how they were doing, not often but always special.

I jumped back in during my freshman year of college, sometime around Season of the Hunt. Covid had derailed my whole life, I was locked up at home in a room I'd previously fought tooth and nail to escape from, and I'd never been lonelier. I asked a few friends on a whim if they would give the game a shot so I'd have a fireteam to play with, and 6 years later they've become the people I love more than anything. First campaign runs, raid nights, Nightfall grinding -- it sounds silly when I say it out loud, but getting to play together during those years is honestly one of the reasons I'm still even here, typing all this out.

D2 holds such a special place in my heart. It got me through some of the hardest, most painful years of my life, and the memories and friendships I made through it will be something I'll cherish forever. It's the spark that always has, and always will, guide the pen I put to paper.

Thank you, Destiny. Thank you, Bungie. For being the light that guided me through the darkness, and the inspiration that I will always look up to. That lonely little 13 year old girl thanks you for changing her life for the better.

I hope one day, if -- when -- we meet again, the future will be just as bright for the both of us.
