Hi! My name’s Contra. However, I will also go by Astro! (Previously known as Smae(ly) or Snail)
I am genderfluid, but right now I go by ey/em and he/him. My pronouns will be getting updated as they shift.
I am an artist, however I am also lazy. So yes I could be drawing right now, but I also could doomscroll and think about how I'm wasting my life doomscrolling instead of doing anything productive.
If anyone who stuck around reading this wants to know more, you can click read more! I don't want to make this too long naturally since I personally am not a fan of long introduction posts, that way anyone uninterested can scroll past quickly. (Below is just interests and basic stuff like that.)
Favourite Colour: An ombre that goes from white to grey. If not that, then F68102, which is a bright orange.
I am interested in (no particular order): The Arkham Trilogy, Dinosaurs, Marine Biology, Subnautica, Red vs Blue, Skyrim, DC, Project Hail Mary, Iron Lung, Camp Camp, and TADC. I also do like Until Dawn. I'm still waiting on that 2-week phase for Minecraft and Stardew Valley again.
I do not like: Ketchup. And bugs. I actually have a crippling phobia towards bugs. However, my wonderful boyfriend helped me tolerate them more. So even if I do not like bugs, I do understand their importance, and as long as they leave me alone, I leave them alone.
I do like: Snails, drawing, giving random facts, the ocean, Scarecrow (DC). AO3. Music. Ask me for music recommendations, and I shall deliver!
I have ADHD and it is bad. It actually gets in the way of my life a lot, so fair warning.
Ugh I don't like making introduction posts why are they so hard to do...
DNI: Scammers, preferably. Since that's my only really bad encounter on this platform, I can't think of anything else besides pedophiles.
I've seen a lot of people talking about how autistic-coded Grace is in the movie, but I have yet to see anybody mention how much deeper that autism runs in the book? Like the first two chapters are maybe like a page or two of Grace waking up and then the rest is just him calculating shit for no real reason.
Like he immediately is like "I need to figure out how much gravity I'm experiencing right now because it's really annoying me. Also I would like to know how big of a centrifuge I would have to be in in order to experience this level of gravity, and before you ask, yes, I showed my work. Let me explain, in way more detail than anyone could possibly want or need, my calculations." He literally admits he doesn't need to be doing all this math, he just really, really wants to.
And then when he tries to start communicating with Rocky, the first two things he brings are a clock and tape measure. So he can teach him about numbers. No hi, hello, how are you? I don't think they even got to 'yes' and 'no' before he pulled up trying to teach the alien how to count. This man is so obsessed with numbers, he cannot possibly conceive of an intelligent species that isn't just as obsessed with numbers.
For a second I didn’t realize it meant “high” as in a stoner–I thought “High Geologist” was like a rank of geologist or something and he was insulted you would challenge him to naming stones
HEY DON'T CRY. 8,008 SPECIES OF FROG IN THE WORLD PER AMPHIBIAWEB AND THE 8,000TH FROG WAS DESCRIBED BY TUMBLR'S OWN FROG SCIENTIST DR. Scherz, ET AL., PEACE AND LOVE ON PLANET EARTH ‼️‼️‼️
Of course! Sorry it took me so long to answer this.
Happy pride month y’all! Today is day ten of me explaining different sexual orientations/gender identities.
Today I’ll explain what androsexual means.
Androsexual
Androsexual is the attraction of males, masculine expressing people, or just masculine traits in others regardless of the person’s actual gender.
So a transmasc, male, or other with masculine defining traits.
Since there might be some confusion on the difference between an androsexual and a gay person, I’ll explain.
Gay doesn’t necessarily mean a male attracted to other males, even if that is the most well known definition. Gay is a broad term defining anyone attracted to the same gender or sex.
Androsexual is the strict attraction to a male/masculine presenting person.
And that is who an androsexual is, which is completely valid. You are valid.
Remember if you want me to explain a certain orientation or identity, just feel free to ask! I’m happy to answer.
Stratt is so much meaner in the book, when she tells Grace he's going on the mission, and I love it. It's so effective. Because Stratt isn't mean. Not to anyone else. She's brusque and ruthless, but she often chooses to be kind, when she can afford to be. She's not cruel.
Except in this one scene. She tears Grace apart, she lies to him to make it hurt more, because she's furious with him. Because he's disappointed her so profoundly. Because he couldn't do the right thing, and now she has to tear her heart out of her chest to do it for him. If he had only been brave enough to do the right thing, she could have said goodbye. Her last memory of her best friend could have been of somber solidarity, of pride in their shared purpose. But no. And now she has to live with the memory of him begging her for his life instead. She has to remember telling him no.
The graph is probably something like 'almost thalassophobic'. I've not seen Project Hail Mary but I've seen Iron Lung and play Subnautica religiously as a comfort game
So I will say it's likely something like borderline thalassophobic, while also being in confined spaces in uncharted areas, with giant ass megalophobic creatures (I.e the Eel in Iron Lung and the Leviathans in Subnautica)
While also being alone and having to survive with limited resources and pray something doesn't eat you
Happy pride month y’all! This is day nine of me explaining/ talking about different sexual orientations/gender identities.
Today I will be taking about the genderfluid identity.
Genderfluid
A genderfluid person is somebody who isn’t necessarily sticking to one (or multiple) kinds of things, instead shifting genders as frequently or infrequently as the person feels each day.
A genderfluid person might feel more masculine one day, and then more feminine the next. Or neither; maybe even all one day! It depends on the person.
A genderfluid person shifts between genders as infrequently or frequently as the person feels fits, and might not stick to one thing for a long time.
What makes genderfluid different from say, pangender or bigender is that both of those different genders tend to stick to a certain set depending on the person, while a genderfluid person sort of goes with the flow on what fits that day.
It can be sort of confusing trying to keep track sometimes, so it’s always good to remember that asking for somebody’s pronouns is a-okay, especially if you are not sure.
And always remember, genderfluid people are just as valid as you or anyone else.
i love the "grace somehow lives as long as an eridian" interpretations of the movie ending cuz i honestly think something like that could happen in cannon and it wouldn't feel out of place.
like they all are solomely accepting the fact that grace is going to die in like a scary amount of eridian years, and then as he gets to like 90 everyone is bracing for it, but he just...keeps aging. he keeps his mobility- if anything his back is getting worse cuz of the slightly increased gravity, and his health seems to be steady. on the day of graces 122nd birthday (the oldest a human has ever lived) the eridian scientists that study grace are like. hey. what the fuck. and grace is like ┐(´~`ˇ)┌
