fun fact of the day:
i.e. means id est in latin and means "that is"/"in other words"
e.g. means exempli gratia in latin and means "for example"
#jawstalks#jawsoriginals#personal fun fact: my mom made me take latin courses in middle school#I was too bored/adhd at the time to have gotten good but it was interesting#anyways the above was inspired by a small wikipedia dive that went:#“how long is a fortnight again?” -> “astronomy and tides uses?” -> “wtf is a 'lunar synodic month'?”#then just seeing my beloved old friend “i.e.” in the article#anyways this explains why I've seen in older (80-90s at the latest) textbooks/encyclopedias mid sentence:#“i.e. here's my opinion yada yada yada and e.g. how it fits in the topic”#lots of passionate science authors would have like. 4 of those in the same sentence.#I blame them for causing me to pick up long stringed sentences#as if I don't go “well what I mean is and its like for example”#the modern man's i.e. and e.g.#anyways seems like I ain't gonna stop posting my “fun fact wikipedia/research rabbithole finds” so I need a tag#jawsinvestigations#<- yeah I like that
