About Me
I've had this blog since 2013, and it is and always has been a dumping ground for whatever strikes my fancy (which mostly ends up being art reblogs). I always have trouble paring myself down to fit into a snappy little bio, but here goes: In fandom spaces like this, I'm mostly a cheerleader and sometimes an artist. I have too many interests to fit in one post or even one blog, but I especially like mysteries, puzzle games, music, ghost stories and other spooky things (body horror in particular). I am nervous always but trying to embrace the "do it scared" lifestyle. I reblog a lot.
Don't be afraid to interact, even if we don't follow each other--I know my blog isn't for everyone (and not everyone's blogs are for me), but if we're in the same fandoms/like the same things I consider us neighbors on this website. So feel free to come say hi!

I'm a big ol' multishipper, chronic ao3 tag skipper (bad habit, I know), willing to try almost anything once (or twice), and a firm believer that (fan)art and other (fan)works have a right to exist, even if they contain things I don't like. Casefic/monster-of-the-week fics will always and forever be my favorite, even if it makes no damn sense for the canon I'm reading for (detective/ghost-hunting aus my beloved).

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:

This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
Redfin still sends me real estate listings even though I already bought a place, and a game I've been playing lately is "why is this property suspiciously cheap?" The answer is invariably "something is Deeply Wrong With It". Like, why is a four-bedroom house in New York under $300k? Because all of the flooring needs to be replaced. Literally all of it. There is not a single room with flooring that can reasonably be kept.
The flip side to this game is "why is this property absurdly expensive?" The answer is always "because New York City". Why is this tiny studio apartment over $500k? Because New York City.
I highly recommend the book The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold and the free podcast, Bad Women (S1) by Pushkin which covers the same material (though the book has more detail).
It's not about the crime or Jack the Ripper, it's about the women who were killed, the majority of whom were not connected with the sex trade at all. Their lives are fascinating and so full of different experiences. The book is an amazing window into the lives of lower/middle class women and their struggles.
Though it's set in the Victorian era, the ways these women and others in poverty were treated and thought of is hauntingly familiar. Disability and mental health problems are a major factor in many of the women's lives as well.
Also, the British military backdated someone's marriage so their kids would be legitimate and I find that strangely satisfying.
