apparently a requirement for working at poison control is a talent for stand-up comedy
When I was training to be a paramedic, we had one student ask the instructor what to do in the event of a marijuana overdose. The instructor said "Tell him to take two twinkies and call you in the morning."
moment of unspeakable beauty today when one of my coworkers called another coworker "judas" for not splitting a can of white monster with her, and i got to watch the guy who sits next to me open a new google tab, type in "jeudis," and say quietly to himself "french thursday...?"
GLaDOS carried an entire tech startup on her back and then got omelas'd into maintaining it forever. as is the fate of all trans women in the tech industry
It's that time of the year again in which I feel like, as a transfem, the entire world is built with a Different kind of person in mind, and no matter what I try to do, be it activism or teaching or having a job or talking to people or touristing in my own city or writing a story or doing research or whatever, I am actually doing something I am Not Supposed To Do because it's for An Entirely Different Group of People and, if I am allowed to do it, it's just on a technicality and out of politeness
This isn't even a transphobia thing, it's just the usual cisnormativity of the world. Idk something as silly as being told in a new job "yeah we all share a single lockerroom, it's unisex, its fine, but if you're a prude you can use the other one, nobody uses it" and then you have to consider whether you prefer to be considered a prude (and miss on a lot of the social nets of the job) or be clocked and be accidentally misgendered often like your other trans coworker with nobody else acknowledging it, or like whenever you drop your stealth with Allies)
Or seeing feminist initiatives for women in science and knowing that you're not the one who's in their mind, because your experience doesnt count, because they're thinking of girls like they were, not girls like you were.
Or seeing queer spaces and knowing you're not the type of person who's in their mind, because you're Not Queer Enough, because you are a binary woman (you are not), and then if you're allowed on a technicality you see you're the only one of your kind, and the cis men make jokes about putting on skirts, and the cis women make jokes about putting skirts on men, and the NB and trans men joke about cops thinking they were a trans woman and being Accidentally Trans Allies because they got some misdirected hate crimes (they showed their ID or got searched and the cops realized their mistake and left them alone).
And then you go to physics conferences and you see you're the only one of your kind, and go to women's physics groups where they talk about how hard it is to be few of their kind while you're there, alone, unacknowledged, and often get to hear some seriously cissexual stuff.
And then you work with kids, because you're a science communicator and a teacher, and you remember how many times you've heard, read, even from your own family, that people like you must be prevented from doing that because we are degenerates, and you wonder how many parents who smile at you would still smile if they knew.
And then you go to your neighbourhood leftist organization, on request, to talk about the neigbourhood urban garden, and you love the place and the people, and then look around and find that they recently held a bunch of conferences on Trans Ideology Infiltrating The Left.
And then you have a discussion with activist friends on risks, and you spend literal hours discussing women's fears concerning SA in prison or police retention (a fear that, while you share with your cis mates, is not discussed with you in mind) but when you try to talk about fear of V-coding or solitary confinement or being put with the men you get "nah thats not gonna happen", and "well it surely wouldn't be that bad" and "hey it would be fun if we were cellmates, no?"
And then you go play sports with cis friends and whenever you score they joke about you having advantage, even if your score is literally the average score of the group, and so you think of playing sports with non-friends in a neighbourhood group but then wonder whether they'll have to have an entire meeting just to ban you and people like you.
Idk girl, I'm just tired. Tired and alone. And it fucking sucks that the only places where people like me are expected are like,,, BDSM and non-monogamy stuff, which, don't get me wrong, are things that rock, but like I'm a bit more.
Anyway I would love to have some representation somewhere. Im one of the oldest transfems I know both in age and transition age (which is a bit depressing because im 27 and been out for like seven years) so this is a bit embarrassing, but does anybody have like, the normalest, white-bread-est, chill trans rep? Like, with a transfem character somewhere (not even a main character necessarily!) who's just chilling around and living through things that are Not related to their transness? Ideally that is also not going through the horrors (like being put in a gigantic machine and being tortured and being killed and all that, I already have a big list of those but like, not in the mood rn)?
Im thinking Jo Lumberjanes, who is the bestest example of this, or like the woman who isn't Ripley from Alien, the one whose transness is stated in a background screen that appears for a frame in the sequel. That kind of stuff.
I know its literally none of the things I asked for but I decided it's finally time to Actually watch Pose from start to finish instead of just watching lone chapters here and there by going to the living room whenever my roommates are watching it and staying there
Especially because the roommates who watch Pose moved out like two years ago so it's unlikely that they keep playing episodes in my home
the girls are fighting‼️

Every demographic of marginalised men on the planet expects the women they share a marginalisation with to simply shut up and tolerate the abuse they face from said men in the name of "not dividing the community". And yet every single time this comes up you get people batting as hard as they can for the supposedly liberatory right of men to tell women to shut up and telling you that you're only talking about it because they're [marginalisation you also experience]
I can’t overshare because that would be very humiliating but everyone else should overshare because I like to know everything
