Rounding up the second phase of our search for local craftsmen, the glasshouse Ioana Ciolea cut got plastered with some of the signs we came across. Below are two of our final interviews, alongside the list of ateliers we traced down.

Here are a few images from the launch of the zine, at Cărturești bookshop in the centre of Timișoara. All of the printed materials (posters, postcards, inserts and zines) are available for free till the end of the month. Ioana Ciolea crafted a glass house containing some wooden figurines for a rightful installation, while Waka X helped ou with the folding of the prints, interview editing and paste ups around the city. More posters will be going up in the following days, for now here is a selection of the 35 posters we pasted a few days ago.
Tomorrow, the 7th of December, we showcase our installation and collected comics, posters, postcards and collectible paraphernalia, during the closing event of Timisoara European Capital of Culture 2023. To celebrate, here is one of our latest interviews, with seamstress lady Mariana, who's been crafting garments for more than half a century, aaand a tiny preview of a comic we printed.
In November 2023 we went back to tracking down local craftsmen and came across Andrei Kraemer and his leather works. Here is a short version of our conversation, edited by Makunouchi Bento founder Waka X.
A scrambled array of the printed stuff we showcased in June of 2023 during the launch of our little project at Indecis Artist Run Space and a scrollable version of Roots, one of the Riso printed publications included in the project. Ioana, the project photographer is featured in some of the pics alongside the frames she printed herself in the darkroom, on AzoMures expired photo paper. Thanks go out to Flo of The Secret Garden Bookshop for assisting us in holding the little event.
Mr Rodica has been sharpening metal objects for more than 30 years. She started working from her tiny atelier, next to Tajan Square, back in 1983. At first business was slow, but she kept looking for new work and has a steady row of clients, among them are the local hospital, ladies and gents from the neighbourhood and the numerous folks who have been returning year after year as proof of her professionalism and care for fine details.
Ioana Ciolea/Punky is the photographer behind this series and Felix Petrescu, aka Wakax of Makunouchi Bento, cleared the sonic networks and built the acoustic framework of the interview. This series is supported by a scholarship provided by Centrul de Proiecte Timisoara, through the Energie! program.
Newspaper size recollections of former and current workshops and one pasteup on the old Renașterea Bănățeană kiosk, near Sf. Gheorghe Square. This particular spot was chosen for its historical significance, in the world of local publishing, as well as for its positioning in between two of the comic's subjects and on the way to the Fabrik quarter, which used to be home to many of the city's ateliers. The sequences above were coloured together with an 88 year old citizen of Timișoara, while going down memory lane.
Dragoș is a self-taught carpenter specialised in restoration work. Ioana Ciolea/Punky is the photographer behind this series and the one who introduced us to the craftsman behind Atelier Volut. Felix Petrescu, aka Wakax of Makunouchi Bento, cleared the sonic networks and built the acoustic framework of the interview. This series is supported by a scholarship provided by Centrul de Proiecte Timisoara, through the Energie! program.

Pasteups and a 3D comics about one historical treasure: the Fabrik quarter. Once the industrial heart of the city, today a fairly run down place, which nevertheless still holds a myriad of gems scattered beneath a thick coat of dust.
