New York voted to allow non-doctors to perform abortions. You get some rando with an indeterminate amount of know-how on how the body works shoving a sharp instrument up into your very-tearable uterus. Yay, women’s rights!

Let’s be very clear: this piece of legislation:

Uses gender-neutral language (‘patient’ rather than ‘woman’)

Specifies that abortion is allowed when any life is at stake

Establishes that it must be performed by a licensed practitioner.

Basically, what this allows people to do is to go to a nurse or another professional who has been trained and licensed to perform this procedure to get an abortion, which – let’s be clear – can be accomplished by something as non-invasive as taking a pill if you’re still in the early weeks.

This is exactly the same as letting nurses administer vaccinations. You don’t need a full MD to give someone a shot, and forcing people to do so wastes everyone’s time and takes the doctor away from patients who actually need to see someone with a full MD.

FYI imposing standards so far beyond what is necessary to be 100% safe and sanitary on abortion clinics is one of those sneak shitty ways asshole conservatives manipulate people into voting away abortion rights.

Funniest thing about the Thor trilogy: The 2nd film ends on: “Oh my God, Loki is impersonating Odin! What evil will he do now? Where is his father?”

Cut to two years later: Loki’s sitting around eating grapes and getting local actors to play out his wacky fan fiction. 

And, eh, everyone on Asgard seems fine? At worst, he’s just been a bit lazy as a ruler. 

Oh, and he didn’t even kill his father: He just sent him to a fancy old folk’s home in NYC.

Like, If you had to have an evil overlord running everything, Loki would have totally been your choice.

I don’t think I can describe the look on his face when I explained that “logic" is a value-neutral system of getting from a premise to a conclusion, and that “stupid” human behaviors can still have consistent internal logic.

He really didn’t like that. He also didn’t like when I told him that he cannot make a valid counterpoint to what I have to say if he interrupts me before I can say it.

According to Columbia University, the hymen is a thin membrane that only partially blocks the vaginal opening — if a woman is born with one at all. Plenty of activities other than sex can stretch or damage the hymen, including exercise or inserting a tampon.
