Johnny is a bad dog. Too rough, too loud, too eager--he needs a strong hand to guide him and and even stronger hand to tame him. On missions, that means Ghost will sometimes have to grab Soap by his bitch strap and yank him away from an enemy they need alive, and not as a puddle of blood and gore on the ground. It means Ghost giving cold, harsh orders in a tone that demands obedience, so his pup doesn't start thinking he can get away with wriggling through a loop hole. In bed, it means wrestling for dominance and pinning Soap underneath him, victorious, before pounding all that attitude out of him. Sometimes, it means putting a collar snug around Johnny's neck, holding his leash in a white-knuckled grip, and making his pup fuck him at a slow, controlled pace, rather than the hard and fast one Ghost knows he craves. Only once Johnny is a whining, begging, drooling mess does Ghost loosen the reigns and let him go wild.
Simon, on the other hand, is a very obedient pup. But only for his handler. He's a stray, you see, a feral and vicious mutt that was rescued from a dogfighting ring. He's the bite first, ask questions later kind of dog. He was supposed to be put down, but Price found a use for him. And Price was familiar from Before--before the dog fighting, before the streets--so Ghost obeyed him... but he didn't trust. Not until Soap came along, and gave Simon the affection he secretly craves.
Without him even realizing, Simon's leash slips from Price's hands to Johnny's, and now he will do anything for his handler. But don't be fooled--that doesn't make him any less dangerous. What it does mean is that in the field, Ghost will bring Soap the severed limb of an enemy, preening under his mask at the praise he gets for it. It means making his kills extra bloody, because he knows that gets Soap going. It means telling the most morbid, god-awful jokes known to man because they make his handler laugh. It means devotion far beyond the bonds of most soldiers. And in bed, it means Soap putting a "Not Friendly: Will Bite" vest on Simon before railing him through the mattress. It means Ghost kneeling at Johnny's feet in the shower while his handler grooms him. It means sleeping curled up at the end of bed, only for Johnny to pull him up in the middle of the night for cuddles.
It's a dog eat dog world, after all.
