Mori Kei Guide: Clothes Shopping

Yay! Shopping for Mori Kei clothing!

That sound you just heard was my head hitting my desk.

Okay. Shopping Mori Kei is not a walk in the park. Traditional street style is clothing you wear in Autumn in Spring colors. And let’s not get into how the average girl and boy outside of Japan, China, and Korea are on average way taller and way bigger. It’s a super pain to shop for. Since there are plenty of websites that list Japanese, Chinese, and Korean brand sites for Mori Kei, I am going to focus on American brands that give you the same look. But first:

Take your measurements! Seriously. This means the difference between clothes that fit and bitter, bitter tears. If you are not confident about taking your own measurements, find a friend (or even a coworker) to take them for you. You can also hit up a seamstress/tailor shop. Some dry cleaning and laundry companies have seamstresses and tailors on staff and you can get your measurements taken there for a small fee.

So what brands are out there?

Lady Noiz - sweet, beautiful, and plus sizes are easy to find in a large number of styles.

L&B - I kid you not. Take away the blue jeans and cowboy boots and OMG it is Mori Kei in ways you wouldn’t believe! And they come in plus sizes!

Pretty Angel - lacy and ethereal, you feel like a forest fairy in these clothes, but plus size beware! Their plus line runs small.

Free to Fly - light and airy. A great pick for the Hama girl.

Luna Claire - a very boho look for the hippy Mori Girl

Luv2Luv - lots of embroidery and crochet details for the Mori Girl who likes to switch things up with Natural or Cult Party Kei

Sand Studio - lovely airy looks that are on the summery side.

Simply Couture - plain starts with lacy finishes. This brand runs small. There XL only fits a 38in chest.

Zohara - because sometimes, you need tights or leggings to go with your cute ensemble

Faded Glory - Yes, this is the big name at Wal-Mart. No, I am not kidding. Faded Glory follows trends way faster than Target’s Mossimo line and their early spring fashions are always worth a look.

Last point, where do you buy? Lot’s of these brands can be found in boutiques all over, but, for my money, I scarf them up when they hit Zulily so I’m not paying the cringe inducing retail prices.

I love, love, love, love this expression. There are so many layers and different emotions you can read from it. Sorrow. Shame. Loss. You get the sense he’s struggling with the memory of the man he used to be. The gaps that remain and the moments that have become all too agonizingly clear. You sense that he’s wondering if he still deserves to use that ring that he’s carrying in his pocket. You feel, on some level, the trust he’s choosing to place in himself and the future.

And the fact that it’s his injured eye that’s most clearly visible?

Sometimes wild attraction shit happens when you learn to separate masc/fem from man/woman. I’ve known queer women find the femininity in a man attractive. I’ve known gay men get so hot and bothered by the masculinity of a woman.

There was once a guy who was not really my type but then he did drag and was suddenly wildly attractive to me. And since I’m bisexual it doesn’t give me a crisis when someone is suddenly hot to me in an unconventional way. I used to think this was particularly a bi experience.

Then I’ve met plenty of gay men and lesbians who are also chill about that sort of thing. Sometimes life is like that “oops made out with a twink in Brighton who turned out to be a lesbian who thought I was a lesbian” and sometimes it’s like “hey, I’m not normally into men but this guy has got something hot going on.”
