I have been thinking about the strawhats, and I think that, yeah, they're all neurodivergent. But I also think not everyone is autistic/adhd.
- Luffy is ADHD, because of course, but the thing that I hesitate to call him is autistic. The way he can just see what's bubbling under the surface with every one of his crewmates is incredible, and likely comes from a natural understanding of other people's emotions. I do believe he has a degree of face blindness, though.
-Zoro: I think he has innatentive ADHD, which has some overlap with autism. He shares a lot of traits with Luffy, but his symptoms are not as readily apparent because he's got this outer coldness to him. He is also dyspraxic and/or dyslexic, it manifests with his horrid sense of direction, and I think it has probably contributed to him developing obsessive tendencies in his training.
-Nami: Trauma, trauma, trauma. I also think she has ASPD tendencies or, like, low empathy at the very least. ASPD is triggered by trauma, after all. She is manipulative and sometimes has unhealthy ways of expressing her love, such as assuming debt=person I like is not going to abandon me. She stole everyone's wallets at the end of the Arlong saga, of people who had helped her and loved her, because of that fear of owing anything. But the strawhats wouldn't have gone far without her, and she is an essential member of the crew.
-Ussop: I don't think he's a compulsive liar. I think his lies always have a purpose, and it is to enhance reality and himself. He's highly creative, highly sensitive and very much a sweetheart. He's the HSP type of autistic, the type that loves an inanimate object so much that it becomes alive.
-Sanji: there's entire videos about his trauma. CPTSD all the way. But before that, he might have had the same autism as Ussop, or at least just a high empathy profile, because he was out there baking a cake for mice as a five year old. Which makes his backstory even more tragic.
-Chopper started out as a reindeer, and reindeers have no complex thoughts, or at least not as complex as humans. He can't be measured in the same way you would a human, because he is in fact, a reindeer. With that said, he endured a lot of trauma.
-Robin: autism and CPTSD. Even before she got chased by the world government, she purposefully chose to hang out with academics and became fluent in a highly specialized language that was only spoken by a handful of people. She says everything in a matter-of-fact way. She doesn't care about masking, she cares about the rules she has made for herself. If Luffy names someone "pineapple man" she is going to name him that, because Luffy said so, and Luffy is her captain so she should abide by his naming conventions. She might also be the smartest one in the group, at least books smarts wise.
-Franky. The man is powered by cola. He chose to become more and more of a cyborg in his love for machinery and weaponry. AuDHD.
-Brook: that man has been alone for fifty years. He sees himself everyday, turned into a literal skeleton of his former self. We never see him as a child, so I don't really have a full picture of whether he had autism or what, but like... He's a pirate musician. Wanna know what kind of pirate goes into music? The type " who never ever learned to read or write so well/But he could play a guitar just like a-ringin' a bell" which basically means dyslexic/dyscalculic ADHDers with a good ear for music.
Edit: I meant Nami had ASPD, not ASD
