hc that ranpo doesnt really like reading because he thinks it's boring but he grows to read poe's books the full way through even if he's already deduced the ending within the first few pages just because he likes to read poe's handwriting, to see it play out in poe's words

whenever souheki argue they make it everyone's problem. ranpo's all irritated and makes it a point to take on a lot of random cases just so he can have every agency member except dazai escort him to the scene of crime. dazai outright doesn't show up to work (not unusual) or tries to coerce atsushi or yosano or kunikida to talk to ranpo for him

so atsushi ends up tiredly going to ranpo like "dazai-san said he's sorry he ate your snacks," and ranpo says he doesn't care so he goes back to dazai and tells him "ranpo-san said he doesn't care," and dazai urges him to try again so he goes back and says, "dazai-san says he's super sorry and he probably won't do it again," and ranpo says, "i still don't care, and get out of our business. and buy me some snacks." and atsushi relays this information to dazai and dazai sends him back with snacks that atsushi bought

They absolutely are the type of people to do this LOL. It’s extra funny when you consider that it’s just Dazai who’s actively involving other people, while Ranpo is like “not your business.” But also he’s Ranpo and his mood affects everyone else.

I imagine Atsushi eventually getting sick of their poor conflict resolution skills and just starts lying about what the other said to get Dazai to do his work and to get Ranpo to be a little less grumpy. The two do notice this eventually, but I can imagine them actually getting tricked the first time lol. (Dazai not expecting it and Ranpo actively trying not to think about their argument and therefore not deducing anything) It turns into a game where they try using reverse psychology to get Atsushi to say what they actually want communicated.

And Atsushi keeps falling for it. XD

Every other agency member either refuses to go along with it or says they will and never do. It’s only Atsushi that Dazai can convince to speak for him, though when that eventually stops working, he gets Aku to instead. He once tries to reverse-psychology Chuuya to talk to Ranpo for him.

don’t you guys feel like cpdb feels like more of a big middle finger to sakaki now that we know what his deal is. idk i just thought about it again because the song came up in my playlist today. it only just struck me so sorry if its been discussed already, but it feels clearer to me why cpdb was so high energy and shit even though nothing really happened storywise (it does pretty good setup for rui’s next events all things considered actually, lets us know what his work ethic and ideals for his career are beyond the friendship and joy and whimsy). it very much gives a “FUCK you sakaki and your dirty FUCKING money i’m gonna do what i want authentically, because i want to EXPRESS MYSELF and BE JOYFUL DOING IT! BITCH ASS HOE! GET LOST! I FOUND MYSELF INSTEAD!” when you listen to it with the context of kasa7. even the “i found myself instead” bit feels like it’s about to go somewhere, although we might have started seeing that in rui5 and rui6? i guess you can say tsukasa… certainly… found himself… instead………………. ouh…….. let’s not think about that anymore guys.

i figured it (cpdb) would have been foreshadowing for a later event since we also didn’t actually get sakaki’s name until a whole story arc later + he’s been Weird and Ominous To A Concerning Degree since his introduction in rui4 (can you believe rui5 is going to be on en soon also??) but it didn’t really feel like it would have taken THIS long to get that answer… unless of course i am a fool, as usual, and we’ve been discussing this for ages. im gonna put my thoughts together after going through the lyrics for cpdb again + getting through kasa7 with tissues and a blanket… it’s 12am in karamell time so that’s won’t be for a while lol.

if you’ve got stuff to say now is the time… karamell go bed and think about puppykasa… ou my puppy… he deserves to be pampered after all of that
