I have something controversial to say
I think all labels are inherently opt-in. Because they're just methods of describing an experience, you don't have to identify as anything even if "technically" you fit the definition. Or if you don't really fit a certain definition but it's helpful to describe yourself as such. I think society loves concoctining artificial boxes to put things in but none of those boxes have to apply to you if you don't want to. Free yourself from "having" to be anything at all
And by all I mean all btw. I think people understand to an extent with man/woman or sexuality labels. But also cis/trans, racial labels, and diagnostic labels apply to this too. You can be proud of and happy to identify with all of those labels, or you can also just exist as you. They're just words
