It was cold, then it wasn’t. Cold is time to listen to Phil Elvrum. Recorded a Phil Elvrum cover.
Returned to my favorite Christmas song. Always need a little morbid handwringing in holiday tunes.
Fell in love with the new Grimes after several tries. Just like Visions. Can’t stop listening now.
Sat in Christmas weekend traffic on I-26 playing this Lily Hiatt song over and over and over and over again. Never got tired of it but got scared I might and switched to Darkness on the Edge of Town.
Found new Burger artists. Really dig parts of this Warpaint side project jennylee, reminds me of early Cat Power at moments and tranquil spaces between first-LP Warpaint times at others.
Lots of meditation with the new Baroness. 2015 was a year led by sociopolitical rock ‘n’ roll for me, but this gets highest marks for just a raw, personal kind of visceral. What a beauty. Watched them play right at home in Savannah, one of the best performances of the year.
Winter is also for Waxahatchee’s American Weekend, though so much of it seems like summer. Maybe it’s most fitting to listen to here in Savannah where it’s December and 80 degrees outside.
Beatles on Spotify means repeat listens of my favorite, “It’s All Too Much.”
Began the new year with greens and cornbread and black-eyed peas and Shovels & Rope on the speakers.
