The World Ahead, and Shattered Chains Behind by PitViperOfDoom

it was such a pleasure to collaborate with @pitviperofdoom for the rusty quill big bang event! it was my first time participating in an event as an artist, and i enjoyed it a lot. thank you to @pilesofnonsense for hosting the event!

lots of firsts for this book! first time binding with tapes, first time using my new fabric paint on the spine, first time making my own end papers, and first time doing embroidery on the cover! i’d never embroidered anything before, but i wanted to try something ambitious for this project, and i’ve also been interested in trying out embroidered bookcloth for a while, so this seemed like the right time to try! sanskrit has a lot of little fiddly lines that made it challenging to do as a first-time project, but on the other hand, nobody will probably notice if a word or two are a bit funky XD

the endpapers are made from black cardstock and gold heat-transfer foil, done using a foil quill pen. i’m quite happy with how they turned out, and it’s something i’ll definitely be doing again in the future! the thickness of the cardstock also worked well for pasting over the embroidered bits of bookcloth. (the foil quill pen was also meant to be used to put the title on in gold foil, but the end result was really lackluster, so i went over it in gold paint instead, which i think worked out well!)

this is a delightful story, and i had such a fun time reading it, typesetting it, and coming up with a cover design for it! thank you pit for being such a wonderful partner–be sure to go check out her fic on Ao3 💜

Part 25

TWs for this chapter: Fire Grief Gore (implied) Insecurity/jealousy, but the second part is mostly lighthearted and discussed almost immediately

“You got any plans?” Martin asks. The fire in the middle of their ‘camp’ -are they really stopping for the night if there’s no night anymore?- gives off little in terms of heat, but it pushes the illusion of normalcy, which Martin is grateful for. “After we fix this?”

“If  we fix this,” Tim shrugs by the other side of the pit.

“When  we fix this,” Martin remarks a bit more firmly. He feels a lot more like himself today, 'camping’ with his friend and with his boyfriend stuck to his side, still clad in Martin’s green hoodie that clashes so much against the rest of his outfit.

It’s easier to believe it like this, that Gerry doesn’t want him just because of Jon.

If i have to give any context to this image i would say Illicio by @that-one-girl-behind-you bc i cant stop thinking about them. My babies deserve happiness and love and return to the cottage house.

Well, about the image. The expressions of Gerry and Martin when they were in the cottage house in the apocalypse, Gerry eanted to give them space and time but and Martín just wanted to do something, anything, to fix it. Jon knew how much the three of them were hurt and how starting in the house could break them apart. So sincerely, the lyrics of fairytale just fits so well to the three of them and the story. Cant wait from an update 👏.

My fanart for @starfleetrambo ‘s glorious slutty Martin era! I love all your stuff, thank you for conjuring RQ to pick up TMA again XD Gerry is one of my favorite characters, so he immediately came to mind when thinking about this as well as that wonderful chemistry he had with Jon in MAG 111!
