Saying Goodbye

As fish owners now and then we have to go through grief when a beloved fish passes. A few months ago my little blue veil-tail Betta, Eli, passed away. I had him for over two years and he was my first proper pet fish, given to me as a housewarming gift. Some people looked at my mourning as ridiculous, "It's just a fish," they would say. What they don't understand is the commitment it takes to look after a fish. Waking each morning to be greeted by the little guy ready to be fed his morning meal, then coming home after work to see him happily swimming around as he recognises you coming near to his bowl, ready for his evening meal. There is a relationship.

There is no true guide on how to deal with loss. In the end it's only time that gives us healing, and to be able to look back at the good memories and the lessons learned with our little friends. Nothing will ever replace the loss of a pet, but that love that we showed to it can always be shared to another.

So, he's not just a fish, he was a good friend.

Channel 7 - House Rules...THIS IS NOT OKAY! This is such cruelty for the sake of a show. Each team had a mystery box and in one of those boxes was a bowl of 2 Ranchus. It's complete ignorance to think that it's okay to leave fish in a box and in a tiny bowl like that! That cloudy water is AMMONIA. They are swimming in their own filth, which is deadly. There is NOTHING CUTE about this! This is just encouraging more people to be ignorant about the fact that GOLDFISH DO NOT BELONG IN BOWLS! I do hope that those really nice looking Ranchus were moved out of the hotel straight after filming this into something larger and cleaner than that crappy bowl. I wasn't "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" or saying "How cute!" when I saw this, unlike the contestants themselves. Utterly disappointed.
