Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.

Brooch made from the thigh bone of a WW1 soldier and gifted to his sweetheart

Sergeant Thomas Kitching, who served with the 12th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, had his left leg shattered when wounded on the Somme on the 7th of July 1916. The brooch, together with a portrait of Sgt Kitching and postcards were sent to his sweetheart Lizzie Hunter, at her Birtley, County Durham address. He survived the war and went on to marry Lizzie in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, shortly after the war ended in 1918.

Notice how some of the branches curl all the way around the trunk and connect at two separate spots

Now look at this man

The topmost horn emerges from the skull in two locations and connects at the back.

The same way some fish on Timber Hearth have four eyes just like the hearthians, it's possible different flora and fauna on the nomai homeworld also had these connecting bones and branches and bits.

Something something exploring space is a religion experience and astronauts have been and always will be icons (as in a religious work, but all definitions are appropriate)

Anyway space is scary, but less frightening than the ocean for whatever reason. Maybe because there aren’t gross fish in the vacuum of space.
