I don't think people who come from wattpad after the purge and now want ao3 to have its own official app understand that one of the main reasons behind the recent wattpad purge that drove them to ao3 was due to pressure from appstore demanding wattpad to be more strict and follow appstore's policy. wattpad complied in order for its app to be able to remain on appstore. thus the wattpad purge.
ao3 doesn't have an app because for it to have an app, appstore will have to approve it first. and if, hypothetically, ao3 needs appstore to approve it, it will also have to abide by appstore's pro-censorship stance and start banning dark and taboo fics, which is against its own core principle of being completely against censorship.
ao3 doesn't need an app. it works more than fine without an app. the reason ao3 can allow dark and taboo fics, the reason it can allow the most disgusting and shockingly vile fics, and be completely against censorship is because it doesn't need appstore's approval. it stands on its own as a non-profit organization with functioning site and a team of lawyers protecting its platform, its users, and every single fanwork on its platform.

Rewatching Frontier and I just noticed Ulrich's face in this scene, when they're waiting to see whether Jeremie will successfully come back from the frontier. Boy looks so worried :'(
And then when they find out Jeremie's passed out in the scanners, he looks the most worried out of all of them, and then Yumi's the first to run to him <3

There were a few things I cut out from my general post about my code lyoko AU way back when, and one of them was about Ulumi and how that develops! I've been thinking of them more recently, and also been coming up with ideas on how Sissi and William (also Delmas and Jim) would fit into the AU, so here's some random Ulumi tidbits I thought of!
Ulumi develops a little differently here because they start off with the wrong impressions of each other and thus hating each other
But once that’s resolved, they steadily fall in love after seeing how well they work, fight, and vibe together
They catch feelings for each other around the same time, but Ulrich is the one to accept his feelings first
In contrast, it takes a while for Yumi to feel comfortable pursuing a relationship with someone who’s her good friend and practically family, but is also essentially her colleague
She desperately tries to ignore/get rid of her feelings for him by treating him sort of like a younger brother (which makes him a little miffed)
But Ulrich goes out of his way to not act like a younger brother or treat her like a big sister, so that ruins her plans a bit
Once they meet Jeremie and Aelita, and their entire situation becomes less of a job and more of a choice (aka the vibes become less professional and more casual), she starts to feel more comfortable exploring a romantic relationship with Ulrich
It starts off a little rocky at first; they bicker and disagree more often that not, and their disagreements lead to them wondering if this can work out
On top of that, Yumi goes into the relationship expecting it to fail (not because she dislikes Ulrich or thinks they’re not good for each other, but she’s so scared it won’t work out, so she distances herself to protect herself)
Meanwhile, Ulrich overthinks everything and assumes the worst with anything that happens
Things get harder when Sissi and William enter the picture
In contrast with Yumi, Sissi isn’t afraid of expressing her affection for Ulrich, which makes Yumi jealous/insecure about her own inability to do that
Fearing Ulrich will prefer Sissi over her, Yumi takes out her insecurities on him, practically daring him to run off with Sissi, which leads to a lot of conflict
This ends when Sissi ends up treating Ulrich as someone who’ll do anything she says in return for money (explanation to come on her profile)
Yumi instead feels offended on his behalf, no longer seeing Sissi as a threat to their relationship (though she still finds Sissi annoying, until they get to know her better)
The second hurdle comes when William meets the LWs, and he gets along better with Yumi than Ulrich ever did with Sissi
For Ulrich, this feels like every doubt he had about their relationship has been proven true, and he feels frustrated with himself and the lack of progress in his relationship with Yumi
Similar to Yumi, he’s convinced she likes William more; but unlike Yumi, he’s not willing to give her up
This leads to her feeling objectified, and on principle, she spends more time with William (to prove that Ulrich can’t just tell her what to do)
All this changes when they find out William works for X.A.N.A., and he ends up one of their most dangerous enemies
The LWs hate him much more strongly and for a longer time than they ever did with Sissi
Sissi even becomes an ally to them before long, but it’s much, much harder for them to forgive William
Yumi especially hates him the most
Obviously, this ends any threat he might’ve posed to Yumi and Ulrich’s relationship

Once all the hurdles are out of the way, Yumi and Ulrich become much more grounded and stable in their relationship, having grown stronger from all the trials and tribulations
Even early on, when they were still bickering all the time, they were a force to be reckoned with if they were on the same page
Literally no one could stop them
Though their disagreements early on make them wonder if the relationship will last, soon the differences make them wiser and more well-rounded as individuals, and as a pair
Once their relationship develops, they start to understand each other better than anyone (“can communicate with just a look/without even talking” kinda thing), and their differing perspectives help them assess a situation from all angles
Also, they’re totally the big siblings/parents of the group
WHEW this ended up being longer than I planned lol. Ulumi is one of those ships that I’ve always liked but never loved growing up, mostly because of all the melodrama. But the potential of how they’d be once they get past all that is HUGE. I’ve started to like them the more I think about them, and it was fun to think of how they’d develop in my little AU
Also, just adding a brief timeline to get some of the major events in order:
Ulrich and Yumi catch feelings for each other prior to meeting Jeremie and Aelita
The LWs first meet Sissi before Ulrich and Yumi pursue a relationship, and even before the LWs have warmed up to Jeremie and Aelita
(Their anger towards her for selling out Aelita is partly from horror that she would do something so terrible for petty reasons, and partly for making their mission so much more dangerous)
Sissi’s involvement makes Yumi aware of both her feelings for Ulrich and her insecurities; she also realizes how much she respects him when she gets angry for him
By the time William enters the picture, Yumi and Ulrich have become an item, but they’re in the early stages
They run into William several times before they find out he works for XANA (they think he’s just a regular civilian; and because they’re hiding the fact that Aelita’s an elf, he thinks they’re regular civilians, too)
I want to end by saying that Sissi and William are much more complicated than they appear on this post!! There’s a lot going on with them, and I really want to do their characters justice and hope to show that off when I eventually post about them, so look forward to that :)
Part 3 of my Lyoko designs, but today I took a crack at Sissi!
Her outfit is based on a mix of "magical girl" and a "cheerleader", especially the braid in the back that magically got longer than her actual hair on earth (though, she may be giving more magical girl but eh, whatever)
Annd for her weapon, would be a weird blend of her baton, and a magical girl staff
That is indeed a pom-pom on top! She can detach that and throw it at Xanas monsters, but she disables them for a couple minutes, not destroys them
The main thing with my idea for her is that she acts more like a support rather than a "warrior", but that doesnt mean she isnt useful! Far from it
My idea for her power is quite literally cheerleading; she can focus on only one person at a time, and cheer them on, meaning, making them invincible
The warrior that is protected can no longer be devirtulized when she focuses on them, but there are some limitations.
- She can only support them if shes within 30 feet of them
- She herself is not invulnerable to any attack, so her protection only works if she can keep herself from devirtulizing
And since her pom-poms only work for disabling Xanas monsters, her attacks are quite weak in comparison to the others
And a funny little thing for displaying her focus is the warrior she focuses on gets a little bow at the back of their head (it just pops up the second she focuses on there) and, yeah...I totally made that up just because of that funny screenshot of Burning Spice having a cutesy bow from Cream Ferret, whatever
Anyways! I had so much fun with this, and I'm so happy I'm finally settled on her design at least for now
