Not to send an ask that has been doubtless sent many times earlier today, but well,
See, the thing about that is
Sure, but have you maybe considered
I hate to be pedantic, but
Well, actually
let's be real here,
Wait, hold on. If I'm understanding you correctly,
That's actually a bit reductive! It's a bit of inside baseball but you see,
fun fact:
On the other hand,
I mean, okay, but,
Is no one going to mention
How dare you insinuate that I
The Dungeons & Dragons paladin is objectively the funniest class because at first glance it seems like an artefact of an earlier age of the fantasy genre for which contemporary inspirations are thin on the ground, but then you dig into its thematic core and realise there are contemporary popular media characters who almost perfectly fit the mould, but like 80% of them are deeply unwell teenage lesbians.
Like, oh, you're running Oath of Devotion? So is this like an Adora Princessesofpower thing, or are you shooting more for Gideon Nav?
It just occurred to me that, given where her character arc and mechanical build have ended up as of the conclusion of Chapter 4, the list of deeply unwell teenage lesbians with paladin aesthetic now also includes Susie Deltarune.
Characters who have been tagged on this post:
Homura Akemi
Utena Tenjou (not technically the originator of this archetype, but certainly one of the most influential)
Magical girls, just as a general concept
Joan of Arc
Buffy Summers
Sabine Wren
Carrot Ironfoundersson (to my knowledge, not a teenager, but i guess you technically could consider him a lesbian by discworld dwarf standards)
Dale Cooper (???????)
Katara
I suppose it's a testament to how strongly teenage-girl-coded the archetype is that the folks who have a pathological need to make everything about their male blorbos are clearly struggling to do so.
this is mostly pronounced amongst teens and young adults but it’s so funny to me when I see discourse that’s like “what does a 26 year old and a 32 year old have in common????” acting like somehow 6 years is a massive generational gap… girl not only is that the same generation but it’s also literally nothing once you’re both fully grown adults
Inadvisable worldbuilding idea #137: create a setting where some common, everyday English word also happens to be the demonym of one of the setting's major nations. Use that word in both senses frequently. Refuse to clarify.
What I'm getting from the suggestions in the notes that most people on this site don't know what a demonym is.
Vacantism gets objectively funnier the more trivial the position in question is. Claiming that Pope Leo XIV is a fraud because the Holy See lost the apostolic succession in 1378 and the "true" pope is some random guy in Argentina? Everybody loves a good schism. Insisting that Charles III is an imposter and the real King of England is living in exile in Bavaria? Practically a cliché. Arguing that the local school board election was illegitimate on procedural grounds, then getting together with like four other guys and "electing" your own school board chairperson? Now we're talking.
If there's one video game trope I unreservedly love, it's the Inexplicably Cool Mid-Boss. Some fucker with their own theme song and an objectively cooler design than the main villain just rocks up partway through some random mid-game dungeon and kicks your ass for three to five minutes, never to be mentioned again.
Come to the Touhou fandom. We have Koakuma and Daiyousei. We never see them again unless a manga artist sneaks them into the background in an official manga but the fandom has them as essential characters to know and even as the primary ship for their respective main bosses.
Apart from everything else, the major reason I'm not able to properly appreciate nightcore for what it is is because I grew up on the 1980s Saturday morning cartoon version of Alvin and the Chipmunks, so I every time I hear it I get this vivid mental image of these guys belting out 00s German Eurotrance:
FOR REAL
helpppppp
couldnt even look up exchange rates…. its dire
I once read a high school AU set in England where the students were studying “AP US History”
i once read a fic where a chinese guy from china named Shang Quinghua worked in an office with creepy stuff happening and thought about "what if I'm the idiot white guy who dies first"
*fengqing
*Qinghua
Totally serious and real gquuuuuux character relationship chart btw

Beyond providing something to cite, the other benefit of doing "water is wet" type studies is that, like, it's not impossible for people to be reductive about their own experiences. I can think of any number of situations where "everybody knows" that all members of group A experience B, and plenty of members of group A will themselves tell you this is obviously the case, but then somebody actually does the work and it turns out to be substantially more complicated than that.
ordovodician isn't even a real geological time period it's basically a psy-op by big orthocone to make you waste your time. i bet you think the gamma ray burst hypothesis is real too
big orthocone:
I am guessing it is for the same reason.
did you know that "attack on titan" got massively popular around the same time as the launch of the Cool Japan Initiative. I wonder if this has anything to do with the profound, peculiarly-Japanese fascist character of that show. surely this could not be the case.
Japanese fascists were like "We're gonna make a show about how much we think Korean people are Subhuman and how much we love The Actual Literal Nazis and there's a Jewish Conspiracy Ruling The World in it" and the Japanese government was like "INCREDIBLE we will make this one of the most popular media franchises in history" and then every jackass in the US was like "Oh my god I can't not get a tattoo of the fascist insignia from the show and I can't NOT do the Modified Nazi Salute from the show CONSTANTLY."
"The first opening of the show is going to have a constant choral chant of voices in German going '(((THEY))) are the Prey and WE are the HUNTERS.' It's going to be a violently popular meme during the shows launch internationally but especially in the US." surely this could mean Nothing.
Fun fact! In English, the word "heart" has the dual meaning of the word "heart" as in the cardiac organ, as well as the metaphorical "heart" as in "heart of the matter" or "the heart of darkness" or whatever. In Japanese, these words are distinct! The organ is "shinzō" while the metaphorical structure is "kokoro." Notably, one of the recurring motifs of the show is "Shinzō wo Sasageyo" which translates to "Offer Up Your Heart!" but it uses the word for the organ. This the call-and-response which prompts the Modified Nazi Salute in the show. Something profoundly fascist about that don't you think?
i think minecraft could be so much better of a game if they added watermelon in game
i dont even like watermelon its my most hated fruit ever but imagine dying of hunger or thirst and then you stumble upon a nice crisp watermelon and it replenishes your hunger and thirst and you are so satisfied it gives you strength to keep moving on. instead you got pumpkin
you are all lying ive played minecraft before and i have never seen a watermelon you're all gaslighting me
They just call it Melon in the game but like
modded minecraft
A melon is a fruit block that grows from a fully-grown melon stem, which in turn is grown from melon seeds.
