the best thing about tumblr is that you can watch a show and then you come here and someone has made a gifset of it and you can put it on your blog like a sticker in a journal

“Smells like rain.”
Eddie turned to his uncle, his brows furrowed in confusion. “Rain smells?” He plopped down onto the steps beside him, his bandaged knees curled up towards his chest with his arms wrapped around them as he sniffed at the air. But he didn’t smell anything.
“Sure does,” Wayne nodded, looking up towards the sky. The sun was starting to set but it was obscured by clouds, blocking their view of it. The sky still had that golden glow to it though.
His little nephew followed his gaze. His big eyes squinting trying to see what he assumed his uncle was seeing. “What’s it smell like?”
“Like wet dirt, wet grass. Just…wet.”
Eddie’s nose, not completely filled out yet, sniffed at the air again. There it was. That wet almost musty smell.
“Oh,” he said thoughtfully.
Wayne looked down at his nephew and smiled. The ringlets of his hair were a mess of frizz from playing outside in the humid summer air all day and there was a smudge of dirt across his cheek. To Wayne it was all a sign of a good day.
“C’mon,” He squeezed at the boys small shoulder. “Let’s run you a bath, get you ready for bed.”
“I wanna see the rain!” Eddie protested, his feet stomping down against the trailer porch. He had a habit of finding any excuse to not go to bed. I’m not tired, I wanna finish the movie, one more chapter, my pajamas are itchy, and I’m a bat! Bats don’t sleep at night!
Wayne sighed, “Could be awhile before it starts.”
“Please?” His nephew begged, clasping his hands together like a prayer.
“Alright, alright. But only for a few minutes once it starts.” He hoped he wouldn’t come to regret it, knowing Eddie could be quite cranky when he didn’t go to bed on time.
Eddie beamed and despite the swarming dark clouds his nephews smile broke through the coming shadows. He looked just like his mother then and for a moment the air was stolen from Wayne’s lungs.
They sat in silence waiting for the coming storm, the only sound being the wind playing its nightly tune. Eddie’s feet swung back and forth from where they dangled over their deck.
When the rain finally began Eddie held his hands out to it from under their small porch roof, the droplets collecting in his little hands as he giggled in glee. Wayne couldn’t stop the grin that spread across his face seeing his nephews abundant joy. Then Eddie turned to him, his mega watt smile nearly blinding as he asked, “can I play?” pointing to the down pour before them.
With a nod from his uncle, Eddie jumped off the porch and ran into the rain, splashing around in the puddles while he squealed and laughed.
Wayne realized he would not regret it. He would let him jump in a thousand puddles and cover himself in mud from head to toe if it meant he could see his boy smile like that. He had a hose after all, and Eddie certainly never minded being hosed down.
A crack of thunder broke through and Eddie yelped in fear, running to his uncle and scrambling up the side of the porch. His little arms wrapped around the older man as he hid his face in his neck.
“It’s okay,” Wayne patted at his head. “It’s just the angels bowling.”
Eddie looked up. “Bowling?” He giggled.
“Oh yeah, they’ve got whole leagues up there.”
“Is mama bowling?”
Wayne smiled softly. “Yeah bud, your mama’s bowling.”
The little boy looked up towards the sky and his smile returned. “I hope you win, mama.”
The thunder roared again and Eddie flinched but he didn’t hide.
“I think that was a strike,” Wayne laughed.
“Good job,” Eddie whispered to the clouds.
“C’mon, now it’s bath time.”
This time Eddie didn’t protest as his uncle picked him up. But his gaze never left the sky. He didn’t look away until they were inside the trailer, the bowling league of the storm out of view.
