It feels wrong to talk about Halloween Barbies without talking about some of the pop-culture tie-in collectors Barbies that feel like they have Halloween spirit.
For example, in 2000 Barbie and Ken were Gomez and Morticia Addams in this Addams Family giftset.
This was in fact the giftset that headlined the October issue of Barbie Bazaar that year.
I love how they made Gomez Ken shorter than Barbie by having him in this exaggerated power stance.
In 2001, they revisited the vibe with The Munsters giftset, featuring Barbie and Ken as Lily and Herman Munster.
Barbie has already dressed as (fittingly, given how many witch costumes she's had over the years) Samantha from Bewitched at least twice.
The first of these in the purple box was released in 2001, while the second was released in 2010.
The costumes are extremely similar, but Barbie herself has a different face.
If you follow RodneyRainbow’s example, here, DO NOT boil wash the hair after. Heat makes the glue (which is inside the head and seeping out through the plug holes over time) liquefy and seep out into the hair even worse than before.
Goo Gone will do a good enough job of removing the glue that’s in the hair, but if you have hard water like I do, you will never manage to wash the Goo Gone out again, so use caution.
A bunch of other collectors and I have been fighting Mattel’s head glue for over a decade and here are some things we’ve found that work: https://www.tumblr.com/imreadydollparts/708236837686214656/mattel-head-glue
I haven’t made a post going over everything I’ve found NOT to work, yet, but am in the process of preparing one that goes over all of the methods I’m aware of.
Also, and this is important:
If you read the instruction manual that comes with your flat iron (I use these tools: https://www.tumblr.com/tiffyfoundsomething/709950538685480960/doll-hair-repair-tools?source=share ), you may see a warning to NOT iron WET hair.
DO NOT flat iron dripping wet hair.
Dripping wet hair runs the risk of water getting between the heat plates and the housing of the flat iron causing an electrical short which can hurt you and/or start a fire.
I’ve been seeing a lot of people doing that on Instagram lately and it’s stressing me out.
Just saw Barbie. Love that the kens are coded as women.

This is the true Barbie-core lol.
Monster High Fearidiscent Secrets
Love the collab with @guopei and Barbie for 2023 Lunar New Year.
I hope the Barbie movie really gets the girls together.
Reddit found out that the dolls can connect infinitely so I present a collection of their creations progressively getting worse.
Barbie Bee Mark Ryden x Barbie Doll (2022)
Making a list if all design inconsistency. Will be updated with time
- Cleo's outfit is different in her box art and doll. In her box art she wears pants, sandals and don't have bandages on all her arm. Her doll version has a dress, boots and bandages all over her arms. Also her shade of blue varies (going from light blue in her doll version to saturated in her voice actor reveal to dark blue in her box art). Also skin color inconsistency
- Frankie's design is different in their voice actor reveal and doll. Both their hair and outfits are completely different
- Lagoona's outfit is also different in her design reveal and doll. She also have some inconsistencies with her hands (in art being blue while her doll is pink) and eyes (having brown eyes in her fabric doll, brown with blue hint in the Clawdeen music video and a sort of greyish blue in her voice actor reveal). Squale and freckles also inconsistent in voice actor reveal and doll
- Clawdeen has variation in her hair. The quantity of purple and it's saturation varies (first leak design being entirely purple and pale, voice actor reveal having some purple with a darker purple in the inside, doll have purple in different spot, Clawdeen music video is back with lighter purple all around but not the same shade as first leak). Also she loses her glasses in her coffin bean image and Clawdeen music video. Also her box art gave her a weird yellowish skin
- Torelei has short hair in her voice actor reveal and long hair in her doll
- Draculaura has a hat in her voice actor reveal but a headband in her doll version
I am in my monster high era rn, I’m sorry.
I think some of the inconsistencies make it pretty clear that the project as is has too many objectives. The OG collection did feature 8 characters, the main goyles, in 2010. However, the project as a whole was much smaller. The dolls were only accompanied by a web series at the time, not a T.V cartoon, which used flash animation that was easier to produce. The finer details of their designs are also more complicated.
But, these issues don’t seem so bad. It’s not like The Bratz Sasha box art level bad. (Although, Clawdeen does seem more fair between some of the advertisements and the show, but this maybe due to photo quality).

The new monster high dolls look really cool. I like a lot of the elements of the new designs and the new sculpts are pretty neat. They’re clearly based off of some of the original proportions, but now their figures are less sinewy and lithe. They also have articulation in the chest now!

*coughs* Friendly doll person here.
So Mattel came out with different Barbie body types a couple years ago, right? There’s your normal body, but there’s also Curvy, Petite, and Tall now.
Around the same time, they came out with the Made to Move body, which has a ton more articulation than your normal Barbie.
Customizers love the Made to Move body, because hey, a lot more fun positions to put a doll in for photographing. But now Mattel has started making the Made to Move dolls with the additional body types from above. We’ve gotten a Curvy Made to Move doll so far, afaik.
This Queen Elizabeth doll, though? Is the first time there’s been a Petite Made to Move body released by Mattel. So customizers were buying it up not out of any care about Queen Elizabeth — but they were buying it to pop her head right off and use the new body for other dolls!
