Krispy K. vs Dunkin D.

Growing up in Macon Georgia, I live approximately 5mins from a dunkin donuts and 7mins from krispy kreme. Because of this, I have had an internal struggle between the two for many years. However, tonight I have come to the conclusion by judging each establishment by just their production of donuts ONLY. Then Krispy Kreme wins, if we looked at the stores as a whole then you’re an idiot if you think Krispy Kreme can compete with Dunkins coffee, bagels, drinks, muffins, desserts, coolatas, and they are usually connected with a baskin robbins. The reason Krispy Kreme is better because they only focus on about 6-8 flavors, and the most popular is glazed. Whereas Dunkin has many different donut flavors. You’re probaby thinking why is this relevant, well it is becuase the quality of krispy kremes donuts beats the quantity of dunkin. Another factor is that you can order warm glazed donuts at any time of day at Krispy Kreme, whereas at dunkin donuts it’s pretty much first come first serve on the best donuts. Dunkin has many flavors, but the fact that some of the best are seasonal is very upsetting, whereas when you go to krispy kreme your gauranteed whatever type of donut you are craving.

Presentation Review

After seeing all of the hard work everyone put into their projects and seeing the type of feedback they got, I believe Adele’s project was most effective. Adele used many different methods to get her campaign out there. She even went out of her way to join Facebook groups that seemed to have an audience that would connect to her campaign and sharing her videos in there to get feedback such as “Netflix and Chill” groups, had the most Pintrest followers that included some of her infographs and other pictures, and created a video clip that showed the perks of going to see something in theatre rather than just sitting at home watching the movie or digital version. She also took the extra step in making a Prezi to show her 3 genres during the presentation which made her descriptions very organized and easy to follow. She spoke very clearly and there was no confusion about why she used each genre because she made sure to describe her reasoning for each aspect of her project. Overall I believed she put in the most work to get appropriate feedback and even showed results of views and comments she got when she put them in different groups. Plus, #stageoverscreen was a very cute hashtag as well.

I thought this presentation was very effective. She really engaged with joining other groups such as Facebook. She was the only one who made a Prezi which was very interesting. She as well received a good amount of feedback from people that she followed. Overall, great job with this project and presentation.

I also believed that Adele had a super successful campaign! Very well planned and organized. I agree that she did seem like she put a lot of work into this project to get her genres out there and she did a great job while doing it. Presentation Review

Everyone did a great job but I think Hudson’s project was really good. In his first genre he made an Instagram as his social media site. He used vegan hashtags which helped him draw attention to the cause and the audience and obtain followers. His Instagram was visually pleasing and he received many likes and comments. This portrays how his genre of Instagram to get veganism out to the world was effective. I really liked the videos in his Instagram because it made his account personable and people could relate to it. He also created a video which he made showing him making vegan food. The video was great quality and looks professionally made. He added in the nutritional information at the end to show that eating this way is healthy. He also made a buzz feed article which was really cool. He used pictures, videos, and gifs to capture the attention of the people looking through it. All of his genres were very creative. Buzz feed articles are very popular right now so that was a great genre to do. He stood out from the rest of the class because not many other people did Buzz feed articles. It was interesting to see how he said he might become vegan next year because of his roommate. This shows how he is truly interested and passionate in this topic. He used the class twitter to promote his project. This captured my attention even before he presented and it was cool to see his Instagram unfold. I also like his hashtag #veganbestrong because it is catchy. I think everyone did a great job.

Presentation Review

After carefully reviewing each presentation in my head. Just Kidding, but my favorite presentation that stuck with me the most was Luis’s “The Bees Knees” campaign. I really like it becuase it was such an interesting/different topic, that had an important truth to it with how the bee population is depleting. I really loved the visuals that the twitter page showed with the friendly light colors, that just felt welcoming to us viewers. If I remember right Luis also had an infrographic on his twitter page that was very detail and full of color. I think why I loved the presentation so much, was that I’m a big twitter user, and Luis had a ton of entertaining and funny tweets that caught my attention, so I was able to focus on the presentaion as a whole. There were so many other great projects, but Luis’s was the most entertaining to me.

The message of these two pictures is for the IJM chapter to help spread awareness on the ongoing issue of slavery still present today, and that they can hopefully bring an end to it or at-least protect those affected by it. Purpose of the chalk and sign re for those to walk by the chalk and see to meet in Landis on April 4th and 5th, and maybe go there out of curiosity, or they see the sign which explains, why and who exactly is fighting for an end to slavery. The audience would be any college student at FSU walking to class, and honestly it could be any one that is on the campus of FSU walking around and passing the sign and chalk. The mode of these two examples would be dramatic and informative because they are making this issue of slavery really big as if it is outside your backyard while telling you how to help out. The media could be those taking pictures and spreading the word. The style is very straight-up and informative showing ethos and a little bit of pathos. This is effective especially with the chalk because it tells you where to meet if you are intrigued in any way

Viral Marketing

Viral marketing is a marketing technique that uses social media and other types of technology to try to increase sales and awareness of certain products. Viral marketing circulates ads and types of branding across social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. The viral marketing that works the best is when it is personal and has the reader or viewer wanting more. A sneaky way viral marketers use their tricks is to use something called VRL marketing, which is a strategy to advertise your product to viewers without them being aware they are being marketed to. An important part to viral marketing is where it is getting received, it must be able to reach the right audience. The reason viral marketing is so successful on social media is because of the wild range of viewers present. Viral marketing is most effective when using humor or some type of an emotional appeal, causing a controversy among viewers, or if it actually contains helpful/useful material. I really enjoyed the video on the Best Viral Marketing Campaigns of the Sleep Art, I thought it was cleaver, cute and funny, I also enjoyed the music that went along with it. I feel like an important part to these viral ads is to make it the least like an advertisement as possible and try more to make people laugh and smile and have a good feel for your brand.

I really liked how you explained the VRL marketing strategy because it made it easy to understand. When you said that social media was successful for viral marketing because it reaches a large amount of followers, I think that it is also successful because some sites like Twitter and Facebook suggest accounts that have the same interests. So the people that are interested in the same things are exposed to campaigns that interest them and are more likely to share and comment.

Viral Marketing

Viral marketing is a form of advertising, or promoting a brand, company, or anything really. It uses social media and other established companies to advertise their brand. It has been called “word of mouth marketing” because people discussing it is how it gets going. Viral marketing relies on the snowball affect, because once someone is on board, then everyone starts to follow the trend. What it does is give people wanting to start up, but don’t have the resources or funding for major ads a chance. Someone can use twitter and make use of hashtags, and get a following. It works by getting started through whats called seeding, which is like gaining traction on your campaign, so that it can take off. Once you are seeded, then the possibility of a quick following is very likely. It works when the person can put out good content. These things have to catch peoples eyes. They have to have something about them that makes people have some sort of response, and enough so that they will share it with their friends, whether that is through social media, or face to face.

Viral Marketing

Referred to as “buzzwords”, viral marketing is market techniques that use pre-existing social-networking sites and technology to spread brand awareness or increase the amount of the particular product sold. It can be done through the word of mouth, but is more effective through the internet. Viral marketing relies on a domino effect, where a company will get someone famous to promote their idea, by putting the link on their twitter, facebook, blog etc. Or they will simply put a link of their ad on any social media site that they believe there is a big demographic of people that will copy the link and share it through social media, such as text, email, or tagging friends in it. In order foe the campaign to be successful it must be appealing to the audience, viral marketing is personal, so it relies on getting people to laugh, get angry, being dramatic. In return the person will have the desire to show this to friends to either gain attention or relate the ad to themselves. After the ad has characteristics to it, it must have “seed”, like I said earlier sponsors will use someone famous to promote it to their followers or they will use a social media sight. Viral marketing should always work depending on the audience and the ad itself, for example Obama’s campaign was fueled with facebook and social media which got the attention of the teen to early adults demographic. If you follow the set rules of viral marketing/social media and don’t just go on about how great the product is compared to others, but instead worry about captivating the audience then it will always be successful.

For me it was the Lord of The Rings, because the movie consists of great special effects, pure action, great dialogue, and true example of paths. Which made the book not get me as attached whereas the movie grabbed a hold of me and wouldn’t let go. Also I prefer movies in general, over books, and for me I saw the movie before I read the book, so the movie had a bigger impact on my life. I would also say that today’s generation is lazy, and prefer to watch something that takes less time, and can keep their attention through one book, whereas a book requires numerous sittings especially The Lord of The Rings.

A recent movie I watched that stuck with me, was Spotlight. The main characters in the movie are four reporters for the Boston Globe, and they are the head group that typically focus on on huge story every year or so. The setting is in Boston from the late 19990′s to around 2002. The story consists of these four reporters uncovering the corruption of the Catholic Church, and how they have tried to cover up these acts for years right infornt of the citizens of Boston. The central conflict is proving the Catholic Church hides the acts of priests that molest alter boys and girls, because the Church has so much influence in the political system in Boston. The rhetorical situation would be the same as the plot and conflict of the movie. The purpose of the movie is to show the corruption of the Catholic Church and how the problem is still ongoing. The Audience would be any movie goer, but especially those that consider themselves Catholic, for this puts them in a tough bind with their church. Appeals of the movie are pathos, as we feel for the victims of molestation, and desperately want the reporters to get their piece publishes in order to shoot down vengeance on the church. Since its a movie it would apply more to media rather than mode, but the script would be a form of mode. The style of the movie and dialogue is very informative, and the director does a good job of explaining the situation and facts out throughout the movies as if we are there with the actors uncovering the corruption of the church. The sources of the movie are from the true events of the reporters and the article they published on the Catholic church.

Narrative Genre

My issue has to do with the gender gap in the computer science community. There are not enough women involved in it, and people within the community see this a disadvantage because there are so many brilliant females out there that could be extremely beneficial to this community. I can see how a narrative could be beneficial to my topic. I could tell stories about women who have decided to pursue a career in computer science and how they have benefitted from them. These stories could address issues that might intimidate or scare off girls from entering this field. Also, if it comes from the perspective of another woman who pursued computer science, it can comfort and perhaps debunk any wrong ideas that girls might have with respect to majoring in computer science. A narrative is more personal than just stating facts, and I think it is beneficial for a reader to be closer to the author because it opens up more opportunities to create connections between them. Take dieting articles for example. You can get have one article stating a bunch of facts and numbers as to how many grams of fat you can lose if you follow this schedule or this meal plan. Or, you can have someone tell their story of how they managed to lose weight and what they did. It’s more relatable, and if the author tells you how they did it, the reader will believe that they can do it too.

Narrative Genre

Narrative genre would strengthen my argument greatly to would give more insight of the issues that are unseen behind the scenes. My problem looks into the subject of body within in the dance world as there tends to be certain body type required of dancers and anything less is often undesirable. There are many sides to body type: on one hand dancers may be told they need to gain weight while others submit to eating disorders to become more thin. There are often things that can not be changed such as height, and having long arms and legs. Dancers can share their experiences in a narrative and give detail about what how they are treated by directors, are they forced to look a certain way or are they naturally built to be thin and how being a part of the dance world affects their everyday lives. Gaining a look into this world behind the certain could drastically change our view on these expectations. Is the dance world begging to form it’s bases purely on looks or is it the physique and athleticism that is required to fulfill the duties of a premier dancer?

Narrative Genre

My current issue is about how, the protocols and rules for concussions are not being followed by players, especially on the high school side. Because many players do not believe they have a concussion and keep themselves in the game with the risk of increasing the severity of the injury. A narrative genre would help my paper, by giving it life, in that rather than just having dull statistics. I could have real life stories of players suffering concussions in high school, or collegiately and the affect it had along with what they did right or wrong when diagnosing it. Luckily I work for the football team, so I will have access to over 100 players along with former players that come in an out of the facility. Also narrative genres give a ton of pathos to the reader, and give them the sense that they can relate to the reader on his topic even if they really don’t know the topic that well. Personally the narrative genre will help me also, by only including facts that are the heart of my paper, rather than having pointless facts that just take up word space like in my research paper.

The purpose of the TED Talk, was for the speaker to explain why video games relate to having a fun and satisfying life. The audience would be those that enjoy Ted Talks or those that thoroughly enjoy video games. The girl speaker was able to captivate the audience by saying she could change their lives in 7mins along with the tacky leggings and blue jean jacket that she was wearing. She uses Logos by describing the 5 things that people said they regretted on their death bed, such as not working as much. She then related that to spending time with your family, which many do by the form of video games. Later she uses pathos when describing out she had a concussion, and the symptoms were so bad that she could not do anything, but sit in bed which caused her to contemplate suicide. Lastly she uses ethos by describing how she’s a video game designer, and how video games helped her get out the depression from her concussion. Her style changed throughout her speech because she comes off as corky and spacey. However she then gets a stern tone and backs up her points with many facts along with math. The media would be a podcast or even a tv show if they wanted to make into one.

The purpose of the picture is to make up a funny parody of star wars/a commercial for legos. Where Leia chooses an ewok as her lover over han solo. The audience would be any fans of star wars. Rhetorical appeals for me were pathos, because the picture made me reminisce on the movie series, while also causing me to laugh a little inside. The media would be the use of pictures to explain everything, rather than focusing on sentences to. This would be considered a parody out of the sub-genres. The style of the picture comes off as comedic, and playful because we see legos depicting the characters rather than themselves, or even accurate action figure representations of them. The media makes it more enjoyable and appealing to the audience with the picture. I would probably add a sentence, with like a quote in the movie, but turn it around and make the quote comedic.

The article that I chose is titled “Time to show respect to America’s educators”, and it basically speaks on what teachers are about. The purpose of the article is to show how much time that a teacher has to invest in the school to make sure that their students are receiving the top knowledge. The audience of this article would have to be those who read USA TODAY articles, or anyone who is referred to it. The rhetorical appeal that is being used in this article is, in my opinion persuasion and a bit of narrative. The media/mode is online usage; an email. The design style adds to its purpose because it shows the writers opinion on teachers.

I didn’t read this article, but you did a great job summarizing the article into a paragraph where even I could somewhat know the main idea. That teachers are the backbone of schools and are responsible for educating all students to an appropriate level, but they get little credit for their work.

Persuasive Genre

The purpose of the article “Are Kids on a One Way Path to Violence” was to inform readers of the violence found in modern video games and to explain both the effects the games may have on players as well as misconceptions about the people who participate in playing them. The audience is any one who may play these type of video games, the parents of kids/teens who play video games, or anyone else interested in the topic. All three rhetorical appeals were used, with logos being the one utilized most. Dickinson explained many facts including court cases that involved shooters whom had been involved in playing these games. Ethos was also used when Dickinson provided his own opinions and pathos was used when he mentions that the shooters all had mental disorders. The mode is written and the media is printed. The style is a news article or journal entire. This style added to the purpose by making appear more official. This article could have been made in to a podcast where interviews could be held sharing first person accounts of these incidents.
