Daiya no Ace: The Dramas #3 What's In A Name...
An explanation⌠To keep my brain from rusting I started a project to translate the drama tracks that came with the character song CDs and other stuff relating to Daiya no Ace (because I love them and theyâre all hilarious). My disclaimer - I am not a native speaker of Japanese, but I will do my best!
Character Song CD 03: Kominato Haruichi Drama Track 01 Featuring Haruichi, Ryousuke and Eijun
Scene: Itâs (probably) dark at the back of the dorms. In any case, Ryousuke has summoned his brother to this place for a private chat. Frankly, being summoned anywhere alone by Ryousuke is pretty ominous, but Haruichiâs probably immune. A discussion between brothers into which Eijun stumbles and as a result, becomes the focus of Ryousukeâs latest amusement.

Bonus:
H: What is it?
K: Nah, nothinâ. Just thought that the two of you really are brothers, kyahaha!
neither of them know how to take a selfie
boys in love (ryousuke doesnât understand these symptoms)
Ace of the Diamond/Daiya no Ace by Terajima Yuuji has amazing art. While dynamic, the artist doesnât sacrifice clarity, and thatâs part of what makes it an addictive, suspenseful read. The images above are some of the pages that stuck with me.
The anime has its moments of fluidity too, but the comic really hits it out of the park (âeeeyyy)Â If you end up picking up Daiya, I at least recommend watching the first 16 or so episodes since those early arcs are adapted particularly well. (You can watch the animated adaptation legally on Crunchyroll)
Daiya interests me because it starts out like a standard, hot-blooded shounen sports series then ends up going in a much more grounded and ruthless direction. Sawamura is a shounen hero in an environment that destroys shounen heroes. Players get injured frequently and have to recover (and recovery isnât easy), players make mistakes with long term consequences for themselves and the team, and no matter how hard they work some players never get to be regulars, etc⌠itâs refreshing.
So yeah, if that interests you, I definitely recommend checking it out!
