Could you make a ranking of Supergirl's appearances outside of the comics that you know or are familiar with 🤓🤓🤓
Only live action? Or do I include animation?
You're not always nice, but you're kind.

Thoughts on Supergirl??? 🥸🤓
Ok; Let me start off by setting the record straight:
1. Supergirl as a character is one of my favorite female characters ever in any piece of media.
2. The potential critical failure of a movie does not mean the end of the DCU (if that had been the case companies like marvel would have gone out of business a long time ago)
3. This movie is the punching bag of the worst people you know and I'm so mad about it.
If you've been following me for a while you know that I have been very vocally excited about the release of Supergirl (2026), defending the movie from people who were already mad at it before release just because female led superhero movies get double as much scrutiny than other superhero films.
People's reason for having a grudge against this movie ranged from thinking Milly Alcock "isn't pretty enough to be supergirl" (someone please take me out of my misery) to just saying that the film was bound to suck when it hadn't even come out yet.
In the social media governed society we live in, it has become people's favorite nasty little habit to pray on the downfall of movies that aren't out yet, simply because we need to find something to hate without having to explain ourselves why.
All this to say; I will try to make this a very level-headed, non-vitriolic review of "Supergirl" (2026).
Starting off with the strong aspects: Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa and Eve Ridley are absolute rock stars who steal the show every time. Their performances were the highlight of the film, and so many lines would not have landed had it been anyone else delivering them.
I also think that the first act and the final act are both very solid and carry the movie forward in my rankings.
Now, the bad.
Supergirl 2026 is a very mixed bag for me because of it's misunderstanding of the title character and the themes of the comic book it claims to adapt. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of the best comic books I've ever read. A Shakespearean tale of revenge, love and most of all; grief. And the film misunderstands this message as "Supergirl's got edge".
Kara Zor-El as a character is a ball of impatience, grief, anger and sadness from the get-go. But she's also incredibly kind hearted and empathetic to the struggles of those who cannot fend for themselves.
The lesson of the comic isn't one of vengeance, it's one of grief. But the themes of vengeance and hatred and love are the ones that carry that message forward. It wasn't about Krypto, he was a red herring all along.
At the end of the book Ruthye and Kara learn that their souls aren't worth vengeance, and that the way we handle grief can dictate how we bring more grief to others.
And besides the pacing issues and color grading that is what's REALLY wrong with this movie.
That Kara's will to do good to others is played off as a way of self-destruction that takes her to risk her life for the thrill of it. She doesn't help Ruthye to teach this girl that vengeance will only taint her soul further, she does it because she needs the antidote for Krypto. And also, if you know what she does to Krem at the end of the film you know why this message lands even more hollow.
"Your soul is still good, but mine isn't" is not the message this story needed.
At the end of the day I still enjoyed this film, and like it more than the average person. But the inevitable comparisons drawn to the source material are what hold it back from being great.
I could talk more, I could talk about the color grading and the score and the cinematography but that isn't what breaks this movie. The script just did not understand the nuance of the character. I don't think it's an unpopular opinion that Ana Nogueira hasn't showed a lot of promise as a writer, at least not in the superhero scene.
I look forward to see Milly Alcock's Supergirl in other projects, she deserved much better than this.
My final score for Supergirl (2026) is a 7.2/10
💗🦇
