Hi! I am a historian going for a phd and also obsessed with Nightwing and also the others I guess.
Important Info: Please submit from either mobile or the button on my full page. The button from my blog description does not work and i do not know why.
I started a simple "case file" for Nightwing that I thought would realistically be in the Batcomputer as opposed to the short blurbs from the games. That was supposed to be something simple to do while I'm procrastinating my other research papers... and now it's becoming an entire biography because I can't do half measures.
I decided to make a basic blog for this and.... you can see how that also got out of hand.
All of my biographies/case files are actually different pages within my blog, so please go to my full blog on desktop if you can! I will also have posts that have the same information posted, but those will only be posted when fully completed.*
I have created an entire timeline
Started tracking family trees, currently at 86 people - note: I decided to add characters as exes like Kara as Dick's ex even though it was really just like one date because that allowed me to link to Clark and therefore create his family tree within the same project
My biography in google docs has direct sources and references to other "case files" that I will be making
And I have this many chapters completed now. I will have an apendix within each character that will have case files or personnel as recommended reading and then also just a real appendix with actual comics
I am still unsure of what to do for citations on this blog? I think it ruins the vibe for them to be in the actual case but I want to disclose where I'm getting the sources. I think I will just add the sources to my posts but not on the pages themselves.
Both fortunately and unfortunately, I have thousands upon thousands of sources to look through. Because of this, I will only use footnotes and direct citations for information that may be surprising or has changed from previously established canon. For example, Bruce being orphaned at 8 will not need to be cited as it is consistent throughout most origin stories, but Bruce’s age of becoming Batman is cited as there is conflict between previous stories and the most recent retelling in 2022.Â
Upsettingly, most stories predating Rebirth are “non-canon...unless?” meaning that these are not considered canon yet many things that occur in these books are referenced in current runs therefore making that aspect canonical. This is especially true of books such as Batman: Year One, Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and more where they are foundations of the characters, and yet, are currently non canon. Many aspects of these stories are contradicted in later comics, yet many aspects are referenced. I will always default to Post-Crisis, however when there is no recent source, I will use the most current Pre-Crisis sources. To avoid confusion, any comic that I cite from Pre-Crisis will be disclosed within the footnotes as no longer canon and thus subject to change with new releases.
I am not nearly done setting up my blog, so if you stumble across this, please be patient as I put this together!
