Teddy's fingers tightened around the knife as the RED came to a stop a short ways away. There was no way in hell he could take this guy one on one, but he could definitely outrun him, that much was a given. He was the fastest after all. The knife was more an intimidation tactic than anything, but Teddy had a feeling that wasn't going to work here.
He stared at the man's unblinking eyes, trying to discern what exactly this guy was doing over by BLU. He has seen the ARC on the field, he didn't seem like one to lose his temper easily, and he definitely didn't seem the type to randomly pick fights off the field. Teddy could be wrong, and if he was he would be a dead man if caught, but...
His grip on the knife loosened slowly until it was simply resting under his hand against the rock. It was there if he needed it, but he did his best to show that he wasn't about to attack unless provoked. It kind of reminded him of befriending stray cats in his neighborhood as a kid.
"It's a uh, nice day for a run, huh?" His tone was cautious, as if any word could suddenly trigger the other man. A beat of pause, then: "You get bored in your base too?" When it really came down to it, Teddy always liked making new friends, even if that friend happened to kill him on a near daily. C'est la vie, right?
Teddy’s smile grew tenfold when the ARC began his slow approach, giddy for reasons he could not begin to explain. Perhaps it was the adrenaline from knowing that if anyone managed to learn about this, he would either be dead or worse, or maybe it was the simple prospect of befriending someone, especially one that seemed too big and scary to want that sort of thing. It almost made him feel special, even if it wasn’t the case. Who was he to judge this guy? He could be just as excited for all Teddy knew.
Of course, that little nagging voice in the back of his head warned him of the danger. This was a RED, the enemy. He could just be trying to get close so he could catch him, to wring information out of him then cast him into some sandy ditch until respawn picked him up. If it picked him up. He ignored these thoughts, as he did in most situations where his fight or flight would kick in, but he did quickly pocket his knife, making sure it would stay out of the larger man’s reach. It wouldn’t matter much, should things take a turn for the worst, but for now it made him feel better.
“Oh uh, you can call me Scout, obviously.” Teddy said suddenly, remembering his manners. He wasn’t sure if the ARC would want to share his name, since most of the guys choose the go by their titles for some reason or another. He wasn’t against sharing it so long as the other did as well, he just didn’t want to make things weird by sharing too much, as he so often did.
“’N to answer your question ‘bout me dying, I don’t normally make the best decisions, least that’s the way other people see it.” Teddy figured that summed it up pretty well. “I mean, we can’t die, right? Not really anyways. When else are we gonna get the chance to really push the limits on what's ‘safe’.” Teddy recalled his earlier conversation with Pauling with a crinkle in his nose. “I just wanna have fun while I can.”

Teddy was sure he entered the kitchen a bit louder than he had intended, but it was hard to tell when all he could hear was the usual distant ringing that accompanied not having his hearing aids in. He'd tried his best, tossing his dirty cap and the small busted aids onto the countertop as gently as he could despite his anger. It was late into the night by now, and the last thing he needed was Spy to come barreling into the kitchen full tilt to yell at him for something that he couldn't help when his night had already been shitty.
His head was stuck in the fridge, illuminating his blood and dirt smeared scowl as he looked for something to help wash the coppery taste out of his mouth. He had just grabbed a bottle of water and stood up more fully when he saw Nathan, the other man making him jump and drop the bottle to the floor. Teddy looked down quickly to make sure it hadn't ruptured without his knowledge before directing his scowl towards his friend.
He forwent speaking, instead moving his hands in a 'what' motion, face conveying the question with a lift of a bloody eyebrow. At Nathan's return question, he crossed his arms, almost reluctant to answer. He didn't want his friend to get upset over him, but he knew Nathan wouldn't just let it drop since he came in so late looking like he did.
With a short huff of air, Teddy began to sign, trying to keep the wince off his face as his battered knuckles defied the motions. "Just some pricks in town." It wasn't a lie, but it definitely wasn't the whole truth. A few guys had tried to jump him while he was out for a little R&R, key word on tried. They left just as bruised as him, but that was hardly a comfort. He made eye contact with his hearing aids on the counter top, the little bits on metal and plastic having broke during the fight. One looked as if it had been crushed under a shoe, the other sporting a jagged crack in the casing from a punch to the side of the head.
"Don't worry about it." He tried to end the conversation there, moving his hands quickly to the side as if to push away the idea of any further words. Instead of trying to pick up his fallen water, something he was sure his body would not appreciate him doing, Teddy simply took another from the fridge. His hands shook has he tried to undo the cap, spilling a bit of water down the front of his shirt and onto the floor. "Son of a bitch." This was said aloud, albeit very quietly to circumvent his inability to gauge his volume. "Stupid fucking..." He trailed off, setting the water down with enough force that more was spilled onto the counter, but he didn't care. He looked around for a moment, trying to find something to clean up the mess with. "Towel?" He signed towards Nathan, not having the energy to go looking for one.

Teddy jumped when Jack suddenly appeared at his side, his own knife covered in peanut butter falling from his hand and clattering against the countertop. He hadn’t known she was in the room, too caught up in the tragedy of losing his sandwich to process it. Though, judging by her comment, she had seen the whole spectacle.
The Scout cussed at the fallen knife, moving to grab a few sheets of paper towel to clean it and then the counter off before scooping out more peanut butter from the jar. This time he was very careful to make sure it actually made it onto the bread. “Fuckin, tell me ‘bout it.” He grumbled in reply, trying to keep out of her way as he reached for the jelly, sliding over the peanut butter for her to use.
As Teddy began to spread the jelly on the bread, a cascade of words fell from his mouth about how horrible the week has been thus far. He didn’t mean for it to happen, but Jack’s acknowledgment had broken the dam.
He bitched about how multiple of his brother’s kids were sick, having passed around some sort of head cold at the last family gathering, how his favorite shirt had disappeared in the wash sometime between last night and this morning, and how his Ma had gotten a new puppy, and he wasn’t even there to meet it!
“And then I drop my fuckin’ sandwich! Like what the hell, man! I can’t fuckin’ win.” He glared down at the slice of bread in his hand, growing frustrated with how difficult the jelly was being about spreading onto it. He finally set the knife down with a huff, slapping the two pieces of bread together and taking a huge bite in anger.
“Hey, would you be interested in going for a run after we eat? Or at least a walk? I need ta blow off some steam but with how shit’s going I don’t wanna risk going alone.”
Jack grimaced when Scout dropped his knife.
“Yikes, sorry ‘bout that.” She hadn’t meant to startle him.
She took the peanut butter wordlessly and prepared her own sandwich as she listened to him rant.
She kept her gaze averted, sympathy creeping in. She knew how it felt to just have one thing after another be thrown at you, as if the universe didn’t care whether or not you could roll with the punches. She’d learned how to do that pretty quickly, but everyone copes differently.
As evidenced by Scout voicing that he wanted to go for a run afterward.
“Heh, sure. Better safe than sorry, yeah?” she replied half-jokingly, trying to keep her tone soft as she reclaimed her seat at the table.
Before taking a bite of her own sandwich, she asked, “Where were you thinking of goin’?”
Teddy watched as Jack sat back at the table, taking a moment to look at the mess they had left behind on the counter. He contemplated for less than a second before shrugging to himself, grabbing a new plate and taking a seat across from her. He would deal with it later, right now he just wanted to finish eating before something else happened.
“Eh, I dunno.” He answered her question after finishing his mouthful, eyes watching as a blob of jelly started to escape from between the skewed bread. “If we go left out the front doors, there’s these cool rock formations ‘n shit. We could probably climb up ‘em and have a good view.” He talked with one hand waving through the air in accordance to his words before he took another bite. “Or we could go straight out the base ‘n follow the road into town. There’s this massive cactus, like fuckin’ huge a bit off the road if you go far enough. It’s got these flowers on it, it’s real pretty.” He said after he chewed, taking a moment to lick a bit of jelly off his thumb. “’S up to you. Just as long as I get the fuck outta here for a bit.”
Open RP
“Okay so, hypothetically speakin’, if I were to go walking around outside the base at night, how badly could I die? Like, what might eat me, or whatever.” Teddy curled his fingers around the flashlight in his pocket, his foot hitting the tip of the bat hanging from his hand as he shifted on his feet nervously. He really wasn’t in the mood for lecture about his ‘unsafe decisions’, he was going for a walk no matter what, he just needed to know what he was getting himself into.

As Alex knelt, Teddy had heard the material of her pants try to defy the motion, his eyes immediately darting to the source of the sound. He almost didn’t register her reassurance with his, ah, distraction. He wasn’t staring, oh no, he was just concerned about the material, that’s all. He had torn his own pants many of times doing stupid things, it was normal to worry about tears, even on someone else. Totally normal.
He let out a light cough to dispel his embarrassment, directing his attention to his radio so Alex might not notice his blush. “Okay, cool you get it. One time the Doc caught me eating a sandwich I made with the stuff and just about threatened to gut me for it. I had to actually show him the jar so he’d stop lecturing me.” He settled into a more normal position on the couch, the radio set on his lap as he fiddled with the knobs just to have something to do.
He glanced over at Alex as she sat, his eyes catching on the words in the book first, then the doodles. His eyes widened a touch as he tried to subtly lean closer to get a better look. “’Ey, is that me?” He smiled as he looked over the details, not having had anyone draw him before. “Those are good!” He was genuine in his compliments, his expression saying as much.

" What's your favorite food, and do you have any allergies I should know about?--There's a lot of risk of cross-contamination with group cooking, afterall."
The question had caught Teddy off guard, he hadn't known the cook had entered the room at first, most of his attention focused on listening to the latest ball game. It wasn't the Red Sox, but he was itching for the sounds of baseball, so it would do. He was hanging upside down on the couch in the rec room, the radio placed on the floor by his head. He reached over to turn the volume down as he started at the cook's shoes in thought.
"Uh, well I like pancakes, grilled cheese...oh and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! Gotta have grape jelly on those, otherwise I'm not picky." He shrugged the best he could while hanging, his body sliding down a bit more with the motion.
"And I got an allergy to peanuts-" He stopped himself quick, realizing just how that sounded. "Okay, now wait. I know what you're thinking, I just said I liked peanut butter on my sandwiches, but okay, but-" He began to ramble, swinging himself upright, knocking the radio over in the process. "I use this special peanut butter my ma makes, it doesn't actually have peanuts in it. I keep it in my room so the other guys don't eat it."
