Heroes of the Storm; an Introduction

With Blizzard’s latest contribution to the e-sports scene, Heroes of the Storm, a few weeks into its general release, what better time to take a look at this rather enjoyable game, and see what sets it apart from the competition? Rather than a review of the game itself, my aim is to just introduce what it’s all about to people who are maybe thinking of getting involved.

I finally played Dishonored.

It’s been awhile since I played a game that was just for me. Writing and making videos about video games means that a lot of what I play is for reviews and YouTube content, and I often spend a lot longer than I’d like replaying sections or recording and editing gameplay. I love what I do for Backwards Compatible and I get to play a lot of games, but sometimes It doesn’t feel like I’m doing it for my own enjoyment. Spending a few hours playing a game that was just for my own personal consumption was what I needed to recharge my batteries.

Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven - Review

I’m still not sure how I feel about Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven. Going into the review I was sceptical that I would enjoy it, my last experience with the genre being almost ten years ago. As the full motion video intro started and gave me the first taste of what to expect from the game, I realised that I had been wrong to ignore a genre that I had once loved and spent hundreds of hours playing. Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven does a lot of things right and a few things wrong. Most of all, it helped me remember that I enjoy Japanese role-playing games.

The title is being independently developed by a team of six, with creator Christian Kesler leading the charge. It is currently planned for release on PC in 2016, with console ports remaining a future possibility.

Hitman: Sniper - Review

Hitman: Sniper is a pleasant surprise, albeit one with a few bullet holes beneath its shiny surface. Following up on last year's excellent Hitman GO, Square Enix Montreal have crafted a fun and often challenging mobile sniping game that tasks the player with eliminating 11 members of the Conclave, a dangerous network of Eastern-European criminals.

Hatred - Video game Review

Hatred raised a lot of controversy in the months prior to its release, and it's easy to see why – its premise is bold. A game that revolves around a hateful spree killer as he attempts to murder as many victims as possible was inevitably going to spark some kind of moral outrage. However, as shocking as Hatred might seem at first glance, it really offers nothing new outside of its narrative context.

A Game of Thrones: Graphic Novel, Volume Four - Comic Book Review

Instead the bolder choice of drawing from the books with a hint of imagination was used. That’s not to say each visage is my personal preference but from a narrative point of view each one works well. Colour wise the art is beautifully crafted with sunsets frequently giving a wonderful backdrop to slower conversational panels. Just one word of warning this is a graphic book with nudity and violence so not safe for kids.
