hazel killed herself along with alcyoneus to prevent gaea's plan and save others.

leo killed himself along with gaea to prevent her plan and save others.

frank on multiple occasions risked burning his lifeline (e.g. when he freed Thanatos) and straight up purposefully attempted to kill himself in order to save others when he burned his firewood in the tyrant's tomb.

resurrection but at the cost of someone else's life

hazel was brought back to life by nico, even though his original plan was to bring back bianca rather than her.

leo came back using the physician's cure, and doing so resulted in all of the seven making it out of the war against gaia alive. but ☝️ as they suspected in MoA "to storm or fire the world must fall" means that one of the elements would defeat mother earth and the one who used it would die. leo defeated gaia with fire, died and came back to life, leaving the prophecy unfulfilled, therefore dooming jason (the "storm") to death.

frank could've died when he burned his firewood in the tyrant's tomb to kill caligula along with himself. it is unclear in the text whether he died and was resurrected or just survived the fire, but it resulted in his life no longer being tied to the firewood because he "chose his own fate". this "resurrection" was what killed caligula.

all three of their mothers' deaths are related to their demigod powers:

hazel caused the cave to collapse using her powers thus killing herself and marie. she was directly responsible for this.

leo caused the fire to break out in his mother's shop thus killing his mother. he was indirectly responsible for this.

frank wasn't to any extent responsible for his mother's death. still, she died in war and frank is the son of the god of war.

all three have nowhere to return to and are forced into new beginnings:

hazel came back to life after 70 years and everyone she knew is either very old or straight up dead. the world she knew is gone permanently.

leo is unwanted by his remaining mortal family and hasn't had a permanent home since he was 8 years old.

frank's house with all of his possessions burned to the ground and the roundabouts of his only remaining family that we know of (grandmother zhang) are unknown but she is heavily implied to be dead.

there are probably more but i accidentally posted this and i can't take it down. when i reread heroes of olympus i would like to talk about their relationship with desire (desiring objects and people and feeling desired themselves) but i don't want to misremember something right now.
