@beeelzeblog
and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
anon who seems to be under the impression that you have had extensive PR training because you have a post with more than 10k notes would like to ask you a bad faith question about the current state of the world
i HAVE had PR training and i'm still not answering half the shit that gets sent to me
anyway. amab does not mean that someone has or has ever had a penis and testes.
afab does not mean that someone has or has ever had a vulva and a uterus.
stop using an event that happened at birth where doctors put a letter on a birth certificate as indicative of someones genitalia.
THIS ALSO APPLIES TO PERISEX PEOPLE
DOCTORS FUCK UP ALL THE TIME
A COMPLETELY CIS AND PERISEX MAN COULD HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED FEMALE AT BIRTH DUE TO A DOCTORS FUCK UP
A COMPLETELY CIS AND PERISEX WOMAN COULD HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED MALE AT BIRTH DUE TO A DOCTORS FUCK UP
STOP TREATING GENDER ASSIGNMENT AS REPRESENTATIVE OF GENITALIA
[PT: This also applies to perisex people
Doctors fuck up all the time
A completely cis and perisex man could have been assigned female at birth due to a doctors fuck up
A completely cis and perisex woman could have been assigned male at birth due to a doctors fuck up
Stop treating gender assignment as representative of genitalia]
You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.
Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?
Three cueing. Once you learn about it, a whole lot of very frustrating online discourse with US Americans makes so much sense 😭
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have
If you were taught to read with the three cueing method, and now struggle to read fluently, you can still learn to read properly!
-> Phonics For Adults <-
If you're a teenager, you can still use this resource.
Mississippi used to be at or near the bottom national literacy rankings and as I understand, their near meteoric surge in literacy rate ranking is almost entirely due to the fact that they largely still use phonics
And I want to emphasize here that the poor literacy is the intended outcome.
We've done the research on how to make a good education system and it's been put into practice irl via Finland, who has one of the best education systems in the world and it was built almost entirely using US research.
The lack of reading comprehension is the intended outcome
kinda bullshit the English language doesn't have a discrete word for an unlit campfire. you light a campfire, but what is it before you light it? also a campfire, I guess. I need to invent a word that can be intuitively understood as "the arrangement of wood that is intended to become a campfire"
well "an arrangement of wood that is intended to become a campfire" sounds like it's just a bundle of sticks and I think there is a collective word for that maybe
i am always one wrong word away from being shot by all the people who find me tolerable
I hate you Ozempic craze I hate you 'heroin chic' I hate you weight loss ads on public radio I hate Burn Fat Fast ads every thirty seconds I hate you I hate you I hate you
I grew up before the term 'thigh gap' was invented I grew up before 'hip dip' was invented I was born before 'muffin top' was a thing before 'clean girl look' was a thing before 'glass skin' was a thing before razoring off peach fuzz was a thing and I'm so so so fucking tired of us inventing new concepts purely for the purpose of convincing people to hate their own bodies enough to buy products
Last time Tuberculosis ran through the USA a small number of people got it on purpose to look skinny and waifish and delicate and used makeup to look flushed and bony and when the Victorians figured out tapeworms people would infect themselves on purpose to starve themselves smaller and women and now in the year of our lord 2026 there is a noticeable fraction of the USAmerican population genuinely thrilled about a treatment-resistant microbial parasite that makes you shit and vomit your brains out for a month because side effects include weight loss and STILL we talk about being skinny like it's the natural default setting for all healthy people as if it's a self-sustaining standard and not an imaginary goal that we are constantly constantly constantly beating ourselves with a whip to acheive
We really are never going to stop stripping this land bare
You can pry Pennsylvania's minerals from my cold dead paws

my nervous system: we are going to get in so much trouble seriously
Stardew valley is problematic because it forces you to have an outside cat in a threatened woodland environment
Does anyone know what to do about the temperature and also the prices

THIS IS OUR RADIUM. you're absolutely right
How it feels to use any tool, app, or website right now
Worse, it's our asbestos. It's being put into things we're going to have to keep using long after everyone has to finally accept it was a bad idea, in such a way it will be almost impossible to remove.
Radium suppositories and asbestos might both be in museums but the radium's in the exhibits, the asbestos is in the walls.
I don't understand how cis people obsessed with gender norms think trans people are the weird ones. they're going around believing that your name has to correlate to your genitals. your fashion has to correlate to your genitals. your behaviours have to correlate to your genitals. your hobbies have to correlate to your genitals. who you date has to correlate to your genitals. whether you can put sparkles on your eyelids or not has to correlate to your genitals. and then people like me go "hmm. I might not do that. maybe I'll just do what feels fun and okay instead" and they LOSE their MINDS
Just saw an adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar that floored me.
So it has always meant to be a modern retelling of Jesus leading up to his crucifixion. The music was released in 1970, so the modern references then are sometimes outdated now.
This performance had all of the characters except Jesus on their cell phones for almost the entire show. They would film Jesus and take selfies with him (Jesus would not pose for these, he was simply there while this was happening). A notable example is when characters film Jesus driving people out of the temple. The lepers that seek healing try to take selfies with him as if photos with him will increase their status.
Caiaphas and Annas, the two priests that plot to arrest and kill Jesus, are portrayed as modern influencers. My cast member friend told me their performances and appearance were based on Joe Rogan and a female right podcaster whose name I can't remember. They are always on the far sides of the stage, recording from their desks and never actually participating in the action. Still, their words lead to people turning against Jesus and his eventual arrest and murder. The performers on stage would stop and watch their phones as Caiaphas and Annas sang, watching/listening to their podcasts.
Keep in mind that phones are featured heavily throughout this show. Characters don't mention them, but when characters have them out and when they put them away is a fantastic form of characterization. A great example is when Mary Magdalene walks around to different performers and encourages them to put their phones away during "Could We Start Again, Please?"
Originally, the soldiers that arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane were going to wear vests that had "ICE" displayed on them. The rest of their costumes are like ICE uniforms: vests, camo shirts underneath, and bandana masks. Ultimately, the use of the word "ICE" was eliminated before performances began because it was thought to be laying the idea on very thickly.
One of the soldiers pulled out a gun when Jesus's followers went to resist Jesus's arrest. This is when Jesus tells the soldier to "put away your sword." According to my friend in the show, the younger-looking soldier made a conscious decision to look extremely uncomfortable and upset and not sing along while Jesus is being tortured, as if he was a young person who signed on and is only now realizing what his actions have wrought.
Right after Pilate makes the decision to crucify Jesus, he attaches a camera to some kind of wire above. Jesus was laying on his back on a cross-shaped platform, but the camera showed the audience a birdseye view of Jesus suffering and dying. The screen was right behind this giant cross platform.
What literally had me shaking and practically in tears was the performance of the song "Superstar." I've seen this show twice before (once live, once the TV filmed event), but I had never noticed when this song takes place.
"Superstar" occurs right after Jesus is nailed to the cross. In the TV version (I don't remember the other performance I've seen), Jesus is offstage during this song.
In this production, Jesus is still on the ground, nailed to the cross, while Judas's spirit and other performers literally dance and sing around him. They were dressed in shiny, bright, disco-like costumes. Jesus was dying between them. Caiaphas and Annas were part of this song on their sides of the stage, and they hung disco balls.
I was struck with the thought that this is literally what a megachurch feels like. All of the performance, show, and glamor while the story of Jesus's crucifixion is actually horrific.
The show ends with the characters laying a sheet over Jesus and carrying him offstage.
I am not a religious person, though I was raised in the Assembly of God faith.
This is the first time that I actually appreciated this musical.
