So youโve learned Hangul. โWhat do I do now?โ is probably your next question. I would know because you all have asked me at least ten times a day. The people have spoken; a lot. So I shall give the people what they want. Here is a short masterlist for beginners who are endlessly stuck at Hangul and have no idea what to do next:
Typing in Korean: ย ย โก Hangul (just in case you havenโt gotten that part yet) ย ย โก Practice your Hangul: typing test ย ย โก How to change your keyboard: language setting ย ย ย โก Korean Fonts

Beginner Need to Know: ย ย โก Introducing yourself ย ย โก Vocabulary (literally fill your brain with as much vocab as possible) ย ย โก Batchim (๋ฐ์นจ) ย ย โก Sentence Structure ย ย โก Conversational Korean
Tips: ย ย โก The romanized Korean is not a complete representation of the Korean alphabet. Understanding that pronunciation/spoken Korean is just as important as reading and writing will help your Korean flourish - so drop romanization. ย ย โก You are literally free to do whatever you want. You could learn phrases, vocab, grammar - you could even start taking beginner lessons at a KSL school or find a tutor; your Korean language journey is your own. What works for me might not work for you. ย ย โก Thereโs always a honeymoon stage. What I mean by this is sometimes people are caught up in the excitement of learning Korean that they forget to do the boring stuff - ie grammar and extensive studying. The honeymoon stage usually filters those who are serious and those who arenโt about learning Korean. ย ย โก However you chose to learn Korean, own it. If youโd like to learn through KDramas/KPop, thatโs okay. If you want to go to Korea and immerse yourself, thatโs okay. Own it. And work hard while youโre at it.
Studying Korean is a beautiful and painful process. As a former beginner, I can tell you itโs a lot of work but itโs worth it. I hope that you have some guidance now when youโre done learning Hangul, but itโs really up to you the path you decide to take. Best of luck! I will always be here to answer your questions - donโt hesitate to message. Happy Studying :)

How'd you become fluent in less than 4 years
Hi, thanks for messaging me.^^ Of course, the answer to that question is a lot of studying and practice, but there were a few factors that helped me improve quickly.
I think the key to my success in studying Korean was observation. Once I started picking up on small differences between Korean and my native language (English), my Korean improved a lot.
For example, if I look at you with a strange expression a native English speaker normally saysย โWhat?โ But if I look at a Korean person that way, they will sayย โWhy?โ ์์? Because of this difference, a native English speaker might sayย โ๋ญ์์?/๋ญ์ผ/๋ญ?โ and it could be incredibly awkward, confusing, or even aggressive. Itโs more natural to say โ์์?โ
Theyโre small differences, but this truly makes the difference between speaking Korean well and speaking Korean fluently. Itโs these differences that convinced me to give up using translators almost completely. I just explain what Iโm trying to say if I donโt know a word, and grammar translations are even worse.
Which leads me to the next part. I wasted so much time studying grammar. And unless you want to read the news or academic articles, I donโt suggest studying advanced grammar until you want to interact with more advanced Korean materials like the news. If you can use up to intermediate grammar really well, youโll sound way more fluent than someone who awkwardly uses advanced grammar. And thatโs mostly because Koreans donโt use advanced grammar in daily conversation, like most native speakers of any language.ย
Media was also important. I donโt suggest learning Korean through Kpop because Kpop lyrics are not exactly natural in conversationย per say, but dramas are okay. I think variety shows are the best for natural dialogue. And if youโre a visual learner, like me, I was able to improve my Korean through webtoons. I read webtoons every sing day, and theyโre great for modeling natural dialogue and finding useful vocabulary words. I normally donโt look up words either. I just use context clues to understand. At first, the pictures helped me understand the context, plot, and emotions of the characters as well.
Lastly, language exchanges truly helped me get the practice I needed and allowed me to make a few lifelong friends. But, it was pretty hard to get someone willing to speak in Korean, as most people wanted to speak exclusively in English. They often told me my Korean is great and never even tried to use Korean with me, which was frustrating.
But, observing and copying the Korean I saw, focusing on useful grammar, reading webtoons, and language exchanges were truly the four pillars of my journey to Korean fluency. I was having long and sometimes complicated conversationsย one hundred percent in Korean by year three.ย
These four pillars are also why I started this little blog. I wanted to help others speak Korean well faster by sharing what Iโve learned. Most Korean grammar and vocabulary words are taught without enough context in my opinion, which has put me in some rather awkward situations more than a few times. I hope to help my followers avoid those situations.
Sorry, this is so long. I like talking about Korean and studying Korean too much, I think. I wish you luck with your studies~!ย
Awesome advice! Iโm not fluent yet but Iโve been studying Korean for 2 years and can have long (but not too complex) conversations 1 on 1. My goal is to be fluent in 4 years like you (so 2 years from now), so Iโm glad to see itโs possible!
Really though, finding someone to speak Korean with you is probably the biggest challenge. Koreans are always shocked when I say that even though I live in Korea, I have barely any chances to speak Korean (beyond super simple, everyday stuff like โxx ์ฃผ์ธ์โ). I havenโt found any friends yet whoโll have conversations with me in Korean which is why I use iTalki tutors haha
