Middle Earth doesn't even have plate tectonics. All the mountains were placed there by the Ainur or some shit. The shape of Mordor isn't "unrealistic" the world was intelligently designed by Catholic elf gods.
Also here is what the actual Carpathian mountains look like.

For no reason here is a library story
There will be millions of actions like this over the coming years. An important thing to remember is that for them to work (anywhere, not just libraries) is people absolutely can’t announce that this is what they are doing.
Not seeing constant acts of resistance doesn’t mean it isn’t happening all around you all the time. Some very effective methods require silence and secrecy.
Something to keep in mind.

i think it's important to acknowledge that the reason why mastercard/visa has such a stranglehold on american society is because cash is not the main form of payment in the usa. the predominance of card has effectively privatized currency
in japan, one of the reasons why dlsite and other similar websites are able to just remove visa as a payment option instead of changing any of their merchandise (aside from the fact that visa doesn't have a monopoly here) is because cash payments for online transactions remain an option. even if you don't have a jcb credit card or paypay or whatever, you can still pay for your online purchases using cash by taking your barcode to a convenience store, and you can do this for essentially every online vendor, meaning credit card companies can't just impose their moral judgments on your purchases with much repercussion
How does that barcode system work? I've never heard of something like that.
1. you add whatever porn games or movies or books you want to your cart and go to checkout
2. you select cash payment at conbini as your payment method
3. youre emailed a barcode that you take to the conbini
4. you show it to the cashier, they scan it, and you pay what you owe. note that the cashier does not see what youre buying
and the transaction is complete
Sorry if it’s a little cramped- had to make this all fit in ten photos. Hope you guys like it….. and again…. sorry Andrew

This is on the short list of Eternal Reblog because it’s fucking legendary.

Anyway fuck boomers blah blah blah but you cannot separate elderly rights and abuse from disabled rights and abuse. I'm sorry but ageism is real and something we have to care about, when it's a specific form of ableism.
The decision to scrap the plan to charge older Australians $50/hour for showers was made after months of sustained criticism, including warn
Recently the Australian Government (evil, villainous) attempted to charge old people for showers and so on as a distinct addition to the care services that they are already provided. Because the government also controls the income of many old people via the pension, which for the class of non-homeowning poor they created is often their only money, they knew this would drive many people into simply not being able to live their lives. A Sophie's Choice between festering in your own filth and being able to buy groceries, cool.
This would not include more training for staff or anything. You are still getting me, that is, a burn-out stoner who routinely stays up until 4AM watching PreCure, handling your bits. There are in fact no hiring standards and no training requirements and this additional money would not have implemented such to make the service any better. Plus, pay for the workers was not set to increase, so the only people profiting from this are the fiend cunts who own the show. Nor would it have enabled aged care to pay for itself, as it basically already does by providing employment to workers who then spend their money on 24 months interest free TVs at JB HiFi. It is not actually all that expensive to run disability services when you look at the national budget in scope, we are just funnelling so much tax money to evil billionaire cunts instead of forcing the government apparatus to do what it's supposed to. But that's an economics discourse for another time. It just seems interesting that these programs were completely affordable, until the government found the right combination of economists who happen to agree with them, hmm.
The reason I call this "ageism" is that the way the system here and therefore I presume elsewhere is built is that "elderly" is a distinct systemically manufactured class from "disabled." To most people, a disability is when something is "wrong" with a person, some defect or aberration from expectation exists in that person, but old people are "supposed to be" like that and are therefore "just old." They are not socially codified or treated as "disabled," they are "elderly," even though they are fucking disabled and would benefit from the same services. Services which they often cannot access; in Australia, the NDIS cuts off at 65, and many disability-specific services do not see people over that cut-off, meaning the state has provided you with a death date that happens to be two years before the aged pension kicks on. Just a problem for later when the next generation of statistically not-homeowners is churned through the system hey.
This is how you find people discussing dementia without ever mentioning disability, which is insane because dementia is one of the most disabilities. And so, while I do think it's just a specific form of ableism, confronting this on that intersectional level of acknowledging the manufactured status of "elderly" makes the most intuitive sense in being precise, sort of like calling the specific sexism/racism combo black women face "misogynoir," which as an aside I cannot fucking pronounce with my gay and stupid disabled mouth.
To be clear I do not care about "ageism" in the form of 45 year olds complaining that 19 year olds in fandoms are mean to them. That is as far as I'm concerned a misuse of the word. I care about it insofar as it is a disabled rights issue. There's probably other shit like giving nine year olds the right to vote that I implicitly agree with because I think it's funny but at the core my issue is the segregation of "elderly" from "disabled" and the way the elderly are usually given a raw deal in that equation based on the presumption of wealth. The fastest-growing demographic of homeless people in my country is retirement-aged women with no ability to access the social safety net because of bullshit like this.
Honestly man I kind of love telling able people I used to be a support worker. The response is always ableist but sometimes it's in a surreal and fascinating way.
Once I had someone do the whole "that seems so hard, you must be so patient" standard routine. I ask her, "why's that?" You know, why do I need to be some kind of virtuous martyr to watch 90s cartoons with other disabled people for $30 an hour?
And she says to me, with full seriousness and a look of utter dread on her face,
"All the biting."
OK mate. What do you mean. What biting. What are you on about.
"The biting," she repeats, as if it's obvious and I ought to intuitively know what she means. Then she kind of snaps her teeth to demonstrate. "You know?"
No I don't know. What do you mean biting.
"They bite," she says. Eyes wide, dead serious. "The, um, the Slow People. They bite."
Melany, I says to her I says, they're not damn draculas.
Loving the defense of "But slavery makes things cheaper 🥺" as if everyone didn't already know that. As if the main reason to enslave people was for the love of the game.
