the concept of buck and eddie sitting together after everything and eddie being like "you know that cop thought we were a couple too" and buck blushing and being like "i don't know why everyone thinks we're together or have a thing for each other.. even tommy thought so!" and eddie chokes on his food and is like "TOMMY thought so?!" and buck going like "... uh yeah he.. he kinda saw you as his competition? i don't know" and eddie getting an unreadable look on his face and going "huh..." and buck catches.. is that a faint smile on his face?

officially, eddie has broken his previous four way tie record of 5 in 3x03, 6x10, 8x08, and 9x05, hitting an impressive 11 in nashville's 1x12 buck has also broken his record of 15 in 8x11, with a whopping 18 in nashville's 1x12

i can’t stop thinking about this but there’s a number of things that revealing eddie’s feelings to the audience first, before resolving buck’s denial or progressing toward a confession, would do… but i’m personally obsessed with the potential reversal of the s3-s4 dynamic, where eddie is sitting on absolute life-changing bombshell information and buck has literally no idea, but in the case of the will, we find out with buck and then scramble backwards to re-interpret all of eddie’s actions and hints from the well emergency on. but if they tell us, explicitly, that eddie has feelings first, then yes the audience will need to broadly re-evaluate things from s7-s8 but then we are also along for the ride with him and hopefully get insight into eddie’s own reasons for waiting to tell buck despite the fact eddie knows he’s personally ready??

and then if you also frame that within the context of buck’s historical reactions to “secrets” that affect him? [chef’s kiss] plus you also have this outstanding narrative beat where buck’s denial of his feelings for eddie also exists alongside the background noise of bobby telling buck he loved him before he sent buck away, and buck never said it back, and there’s all this extra baggage around saying i love you, that we see even at the end of s8 when buck struggles to say it back to his own sister and. god. there are so many ways they could take this

i think eddie has been a manifestation of chim's insecurities so far this season. 9x01 we get chim watching eddie and hen the same way buck is. you can see that he wants to be there in it, that he isn't sure about his role. eddie isn't treating chim as a captain anyways. he is jumping off a bridge and doing his own thing before even consulting chimney! then the scuffle about the space thing happens. did chim even want to go to space? honestly, i don't think so, i think he just wanted hen to pick him so there was a sense of normalcy after everything. but then eddie says what chimney has been thinking for months. he's just a temp... he's temporarily in bobby's shoes, but he doesn't deserve it.

and then this episode, 9x03, chim is feeling unsettled and like he can't make the right decision. and there's eddie again. confident, sure, telling chimney what they need to do. eddie who has always been so much like bobby. all chimney wants to do is emulate bobby. to fill his shoes.

i am not sure how we will see it continue to come up, but i do think how chim and eddke have been interacting is very interesting. i hope it continues

and what if i said when they were figuring out how to get the girl out of the train car, buck and eddie couldn't look at each other because they were thinking about each other. the water was pouring around them and her husband was in pieces and they couldn't help but think about each other.

buck was thinking about how the rain felt when eddie was buried. he thought about bobby dragging him away when as he tried to dig through the earth to reach eddie.

eddie was thinking about looking through the thunderstorm to see bucks body hanging from the ladder. he thought about how bobby told him to drive to keep his mind off of buck dying in the back of the ambulance.

My in-depth post-episode reflection on some of my thoughts on 9x03:

There were so many call backs to Buck and Eddie specific events or storylines in this episode. Specifically related to the call at the subway.

“Panic attacks that are heart attack attacks” (Eddie panic attack plotline

The crush injury with a close-up on the holding of hands- (Buck's ladder truck accident with Eddie holding his hand)

The partner freaking out about the love of their life being trapped underground, while The water slowly pours into the underground hole. (Can someone say well accident call back!!!)

Buck also has the line that highlights the importance of harry helping the husband grapple with his loved one in grave danger

the Afghanistan feels amputation line from Eddie

The amputation with the callback to Eddie’s past in Afghanistan is obviously a corny trope but it does remind me of when he does that balloon insertion on the kid that had the flipped pelvis in 8x04. He attempts a very risky vein inflation in a moving ambulance, which he did as a medic in Afghanistan. He references this in that episode and is kind of how we got to the paramedic Eddie storyline. It also was really highlighted Eddie's personal grappling with feeling like a failure as a father but also a veiled reference to his own past and never feeling like enough for his parents.

Eddie talks to the kids dad about how he thinks his son is not manly enough or feels like he is not enough for his father. Its incredible poignant in the absence of Chris, because of how much Eddie wants to break the cycle he suffered under with the Machismo and his parents expectations.

The conversation they have with the Dad being like ”you think I want my son to be a cheer cheerleader” and Eddie being like he just wants you to love him. Your son is suffering and you don’t love your son because he’s not manly enough? It has an extremely queer coded subtext that is framed like it speaks to a personal experience in Eddie’s past. We know the heavy weight of extremely gendered and hyper masculine expectations have weighed down Eddie his whole life. He is expected to "man up" and create a prefect nuclear family, despite deep down Eddie not really wanting that.

There is also the call back to Eddie's panic attack storyline from season 4. He has a full on panic attack that he thinks is a heart attack when someone mistakes Ana for his wife. People could make the claim that it’s related to like the loss of Shannon which is true to some degree but it is much more skewed towards queer subtext. Feeling like he has to perform or feeling extreme anxiety and dread when imagining a life with Ana is directly related to him being gay. The feeling of immense dread at the prospect of a white picket fence and his continual feeling that he needs to find Christopher a mother is completely tied together with all of his internalized homophobia and also his parents expectations for him.

This feels very in line with how heavily gay coded Eddie is as a character and how I hope they talk about those experiences with homophobia and its impact on his internalized homophobia moving forward.

Also the framing references to a possible Buck centered NDE in 9x02 with the robot, plus the cars nearly hitting him and now in 9x03 Buck tasking Harry with calming the patient's husband while his wife is trapped underground, freaking out while a loved on in danger. This is a direct connect to the well accident and hopefully foreshadowing a Buck NDE which could serve as an Eddie feelings realization.

I will live and die on the hill that Eddie Diaz is gay and he has been actively written as a gay man intentionally. Every episode thus far since the start of season eight has convinced me that is the direction they’re taking his character. Obviously I don’t have a ton of faith in the writers of 911 because of the handling of Bobby is death. However they have tackled complex emotional storylines in past season so who knows. I have the general feeling that Gay Eddie is the only logical direction they can take his character in which the way they have written his character.

thinking about eddie being so so internal while buck externalizes everything. they are both sillygoofy at their core (i think this is often misunderstood about eddie because buck is louder) but when things are serious, buck sprays his feelings all over the room like a super soaker while eddie sits in his. and lets them exist and turns them over in his head and waits for someone to ask him about it because it's not really in his nature to proactively talk about his feelings. and this is true of sad things like when bobby died and he was waiting and waiting and waiting for buck to come to him and ask him how he was feeling, when the whole time he could have brought it up himself. but that's not how he processes things; he doesn't want to HAVE to bring it up, he wants buck to know him well enough to look at him and know that Eddie needs to talk, and ask him how he's feeling, and then Eddie can talk about it. but I think it's also true for positive feelings, like when he spent a full year knowing that he had willed custody of his son to buck. and didn't bring it up and kept just calmly existing in buck's space with that knowledge under his skin. and I think some people interpret this as fear on eddie's part, or internalized homophobia or something, but I think it's really just that he doesn't talk about his feelings until he has to or until someone asks him about it. and that doesn't mean he doesn't understand his own feelings, or that he's denying them. just that I think he likes to sit in his feelings and process the world through them without externalizing them until he's ready. and anyway, I think if someone had asked him how he feels about buck (in the same way buck was asked about his feelings for Eddie) I think the result would have been really really different than what happened in 811. because I think eddie knows how he feels, or at least is starting to understand it. it's just that no one has asked him about it yet, and he's not really done sitting in it yet so he's not ready to bring it up on his own, and nothing has quite happened that's pushed him to feel like he needs to say something. yet.

as optimistic as I remain about other aspects of the show. well there is something genuinely and surreally comical about how Tim Minear bragged that killing off Bobby was all his idea and absolutely everyone fought him on it but he knew better, proceeded to get the worst critical and fan reception of his life after going through with it, and then completely disappeared for almost 3 months after a bizarre funeral episode he co-wrote where almost nobody who loved Bobby talked about him or with each other and there was a distracting side plot about how you shouldn’t believe in miracles and every other season storyline got derailed and hastily wrapped up and all the characters got pushed forward in time and towards the moving on stage before the audience was even able to really properly process anything and the cast got cornered having to answer all the questions about it and be diplomatic. and now he’s back saying well we want to honor Bobby’s sacrifice and pay homage to the character’s legacy. Awesome dude do you know when would have been an ideal time to do that

Both awkwardly confess over each other at the same time. They don’t even talk about when Bucks gonna move in before Eddie is helping him move boxes. They happen to buy rings for each other on the other side of the same jewelry store and keep comically missing each other/walking behind displays as the other looks over. Camera cuts back and forth to them describing the love of their life to the oblivious workers. They both walk on the beach waiting for the right moment to get on one knee and they do it at the exact same time and they laugh and laugh and laugh.

Okay! So! I’m a bit of an architecture and interior design enthusiast, which means I’m constantly paying too much attention to the living quarters of characters in shows I’m obsessed with. I decided to put that to use and make up a floor plan for Eddie’s house and got a bit carried away. Anyway, a-thousand-something screenshots and three weeks of effort later, we have what I would normally make just one long post but is instead a series of three posts, because of the tumblr image limit.

Also, sorry in advance if this is just way too much information. I figured, since I’ve got it in my brain, I might as well put it in the post.

Anyway, here’s the floor plan as a whole. I’m going to focus on each individual room in later sections of the post. This section kind of covers the house in general.

Ranting About Spinoffs

This is mainly directed at #911onABC which is launching a spinoff this fall called 911: Nashville.

The purpose of this rant is to explain why I think it's stupid that studios spinoff shows where it's just the same show set in a different locale. Why? What's the point? Your existing show is popular not because of the format, but because of the cast that bring the characters to life. I cannot fathom why someone would be drawn to 911's format alone. It's just another network procedural.

With the state of the fandom as it is, making a spinoff after messily killing of probably THE MOST beloved character on the show, why would ABC think the spinoff isn't already dead in the water? The comment sections of all of 911 social media is just chock full of #BringBobbyBack. No one wants to watch S9 without Bobby and I don't want to get #Buddie without Bobby. That's Buck's dad.

A proper spinoff is handled like Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis. Having the lore from SG1 makes Atlantis even better, but you don't really need it. The spunoff series utilizes characters who were present in SG1 allowing fans of SG1 an existing connection to the new show and creates a draw to watch these characters you already know and maybe love in a totally new environment.

I just wanted to say all this and Twitter has a character limit. I also just really think that if ABC wants their new spinoff to be successful while restoring faith in the OG show, then they should link the two opening episodes of S9 and the premiere of Nashville together and bring Bobby back...
