Summary: Percy Jackson from District 4, and Annabeth Chase from District 3, are Victors and Mentors. Their least favourite time of the year has arrived once again.
The day of the reaping is one of silence. It’s an early start, which Percy loathes as much as Annabeth typically relishes. This early start, though, he knows she hates as much he does. That much is obvious in her tensed shoulders, clenched jaw, pointed silence. He doesn’t break the tension with a quip like he might on a regular day, throwing himself on the blade of a joke just for the chance to see her lips quirk upwards in a smile. This silence is neither calming nor terrifying, but something of a ritual. Make no assumptions, and nothing will be made worse than it already is. Expectation is one of the biggest killers.
