✨Tokyo Disney Resort will be closed for two weeks to help prevent further spread of COVID-19. The parks will reopen again on the 16th March✨

While it’s sad that the parks are closed, I believe they’ve absolutely done the right thing. So many people pass through those turnstiles everyday. Meanwhile, it means the workers can crack on with the finishing touches to the new Beauty and the Beast area 😍

Happy 77th Birthday to Bambi released August 13, 1942 🦌

A film with one of the most shocking deaths in Disney history; Bambi is a beloved film that has lasted through the ages. It’s a slightly haunting film where you never see ‘Man,’ the antagonist but audiences feel plenty of contempt for him when Bambi’s mother is cruelly killed offscreen. Despite this shocking scene, Bambi has plenty of heart and some cracking quotable lines! Most of the cast have passed on now, but voicing talents include Hardie Albright, Peter Behn, Paula Winslowe, Sterling Holloway, Sam Edwards and Ann Gillis 🐇

Thumper and Miss Bunny are available as a meet and greet and their pictures, along with Bambi and Flower, often get used as decorations or merchandise around Tokyo Disney Resort 🐾

Happy 14th Birthday to Sky High released July 29, 2005 🦸‍♀️

A combination of Harry Potter and the Incredibles (that was actually a tag line for this movie), Sky High is a coming-of-age story with a superhero theme. Boasting an impressive cast with names like Kurt Russell, Kelly Preston, Michael Angarano, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Bruce Campbell and Lynda Carter. While a hit with the fans and the critics, it didn’t do as well in the box office as they were hoping so a planned sequel never came to fruition 🦸‍♂️

Happy 21st Birthday to The Parent Trap released July 29, 1998 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧

A light hearted film about family; The Parent Trap is a remake of the original movie released in 1961. Lindsey Lohan plays the role of both Hallie and Annie; twins who meet at a Summer camp and decide to switch places in an attempt to get their divorced parents (Dennis Quaid and the late Natasha Richardson) back together. Rounding out the cast is Lisa Ann Walter, Simon Kunz and Elaine Hendrix as the gold digging Meredith Blake 🍪

Happy 68th Birthday to Alice in Wonderland released July 28, 1951 🐰

Based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” this film stretches the imagination and is one of the most well known adaptations of the book. Kathryn Beaumont gives life to our titular heroine, with the amazing talents of late actors Verna Felton, Sterling Holloway, Ed Wynn, Jerry Colonna, Richard Haydn and J. Pat O’Malley 🎩

Due to the popularity of Alice in Wonderland, this film is represented everywhere at the Disney Parks and Tokyo Disney Resort is no exception. You can ride Alice’s Tea Party or have dinner at the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall. A large number of characters are available as a meet and greet and take part in the Dreaming Up Parade. Alice also appears on a giant illuminated Cheshire Cat in the Electric Lights Parade and she was included in the revamp of “It’s a small world.” ☕️

Happy 17th Birthday to Country Bears, released July 26, 2002 🐻

Another occasion where the film is based off of a Disney Park attraction. This is based off of the Country Bear Jamboree attraction at Disneyland (now closed) and Disney World and is the second film based on a Disney attraction; the first being Tower of Terror. Not even the star studded cast of Christopher Walken, Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Michael Richardson, Brad Garrett and cameos from Willie Nelson, Queen Latifah and Sir Elton John could save this film from being a flop. I have to be honest; they’ve always terrified me slightly 😕

At Tokyo Disneyland, they have the Country Bear Theater (the same as the Jamboree, but I imagine it was proving difficult to translate). The show is the same as the now-closed Disneyland 🐻

Happy 34th Birthday to The Black Cauldron released July 24, 1985 🧚‍♂️

Loosely based on “The Chronicles of Prydain” by Lloyd Alexander, this movie was a commercial failure for Disney and nearly sent the Feature Animation side of the company into bankruptcy. Regardless, this film is quite popular with older Disney fans; alas under-promoted. Voicing talents include Grant Bardsley, John Byner, the late Susan Sheridan, the late Nigel Hawthorne and the late John Hurt as the terrifying Horned King 💀

As one can imagine, this movie isn’t represented at TDR 🧚‍♀️

Happy 22nd Birthday to George of the Jungle released July 16, 1997 🌴

A spoof of Tarzan featuring Brendan Fraser as the lovable yet slightly-incompetent hero and Leslie Mann as Ursula; the young woman who ventures to the jungle and introduces George to the modern world. Also along for the ride are Richard Roundtree, Thomas Haden Church, Holland Taylor and John Cleese, giving his voice to George’s friend, Ape 🦍

Happy 26th Birthday to Hocus Pocus released on July 16, 1993 🧙🏻‍♀️

If you’re not watching Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween, you’re most certainly watching this instead (or both!) Despite this film not being a great success upon it’s release, it has developed a huge following in the years since and is hugely beloved by many. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker are fantastic as the Sanderson Sisters, with the main cast rounded out by Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Vinessa Shaw, Doug Jones and both Sean Murray and Jason Marsden (voice) bringing Thackery Binx to life 🎃

Happy 38th Birthday to The Fox and the Hound released on June 10, 1981 🦊

A movie well known for making even the most stoic viewer weep; this movie shows friendship is possible, regardless of “social norms.” It’s such a heartwarming tale and hugely beloved, despite being very underpromoted. The late Mickey Rooney and Keith Coogan play Tod, the Fox, at the different stages in life, while Kurt Russell and Corey Feldman lend their voices to Cooper, the Hound 🐶

Unfortunately, due to the underpromoting, this film and it’s characters do not feature at Tokyo Disney Resort 🦊🐶

Happy 16th Birthday to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl released July 9, 2003. Also, Happy 13th Birthday to Dead Man’s Chest released July 7, 2006 🏴‍☠️

I thought I would combine these two together, rather than make separate posts. This film series has become hugely beloved; mostly due to the fantastic performance of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. In a surprise twist, these films are actually based on the rides at Disneyland, rather than the other way round. Other films like this include Country Bears, Tower of Terror and The Haunted Mansion. The cast of POTC is rounded out by Geoffrey Rush, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Kevin McNally with Naomie Harris and Bill Nighy joining the sequel ☠️

As mentioned before, this film series is based off of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and it does feature at Tokyo Disneyland also! Unlike it’s American counterpart, the redheaded lady is still up for auction in the “Take a Wench for a Bride” scene. Also, at Tokyo Disney Sea in 2019, the summer event is Pirates themed, including lots of pirate themed snacks and a show featuring plenty of water cannons to keep you cool 💧

Happy 12th Birthday to Ratatouille released June 29, 2007 🧀

A film which shows it doesn’t matter how small you are, you can always achieve your dreams if you set your mind to it! Delivered by the masters at Pixar Studios, it’s delightfully funny with the voicing talents of Lou Romano, Ian Holm, Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo and the late Peter O’Toole as Anton Ego 👓

During Pixar Playtime at Tokyo Disney Sea, Remy had his own show! Called Chef Remy and Me, the show combined singing, amazing stunts and no shortage of laughs. Remy was also available as a meet and greet 🐭

Happy 22nd Birthday to Hercules released June 27, 1997 ⚡️

A watered-down, loosely-based and kid-friendly version of the Heracles’ myth; Hercules is both funny and inspiring with plenty of catchy songs. From James Woods’ snarky and sassy portrayal of Hades to Danny Devito’s grumpy and done-with-the-world Philoctetes, this movie gets a lot of things right! Tate Donovan plays our esteemed hero while Susan Egan plays “damsel-in-distress-yeah-right!” Megara (friends call her Meg if she had any friends) 🏺

Unfortunately Hercules doesn’t feature too much at Tokyo Disney Resort. However, with the revamp of “It’s a small world”, Hercules and baby Pegasus can be seen representing Greece. However, I don’t think this film is known to a lot of Japanese. They tend to not react when they seem him 😔🏛

Only the one photo for Wall-E because I adore this picture and it needs to be enjoyed full-size 😍

Happy 11th Birthday to Wall-E released June 27, 2008 🤖

A fantastic critique on consumerism and a warning about looking after our planet; Wall-E is an endearing film from the masters at Pixar. It’s such a lovely film and beautifully animated. The animators have done such a brilliant job at portraying the emotions of Wall-E and EVE. Ben Burtt and Elissa Knight provide the voices of Wall-E and EVE, respectively 🌱

Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t have any representation at Tokyo Disney Resort 🌎

Happy 24th Birthday to Pocahontas released June 23, 1995 🧭

Such a controversial topic packed into a beloved movie. Loosely based (very loosely!) on a true story, Pocahontas is only one tale of the horrors Native Americans faced and still face today. It’s definitely more of a lighthearted take on the Pocahontas story, with the (usually loathed) sequel having slightly more grains of truth to it. Irene Bedard (dialogue) and Judy Kuhn (singing) bring Pocahontas to life, along with the likes of Mel Gibson, David Ogden Stiers, Christian Bale and the late Russell Means as Pocahontas father, Chief Powhatan 🦝

Unfortunately, Pocahontas isn’t a particularly popular film in Japan and, as such, she doesn’t appear very often in the parks. The instrumental for “Colors of the Wind” was used in the “Celebrate Tokyo Disneyland!” Show, but that’s about the extent of it 🎶

Happy 7th Birthday to Brave released June 22, 2012 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A masterpiece from Pixar Studios and delivering our first Pixar Disney Princess; Brave gave young girls a role model without a love interest (shocking, I know!) With her thick Scottish accent supplied by Kelly MacDonald and rebel streak, Merida soon became a beloved character. Other voicing talents include Emma Thompson, Billy Connelly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane and Craig Ferguson 🐻

Merida was a character in the Pixar Playtime Pals show during Pixar Playtime at Tokyo DisneySea 🏹

Happy 42nd Birthday to The Rescuers released on June 22, 1977 🐭

Terribly underrated and terribly under promoted, The Rescuers is a film quite a few people forget, despite the fact it had a sequel 13 years later. A truly wonderful story showing that it doesn’t matter how small you are, as long as your heart is in the right place. Bob Newhart is the lovable, bumbling Bernard while Eva Gabor brings no small amount of class to Bianca 👛

Unfortunately, due to the above mentioned underrated-ness, The Rescuers aren’t anywhere to be seen at Tokyo Disney Resort 🐀🐁

Happy 64th Birthday to Lady and the Tramp released June 22, 1955 🍝

An animal version of the rich-girl-meets-bad-boy trope; Lady and the Tramp is endearing, full of heart and delivers some fantastic songs! Late actors Barbara Luddy and Larry Roberts play Lady and the Tramp, respectively, while late sensation Peggy Lee lends her voice to several roles, including the beautiful Peg 🐶

Lady and her bad boy beau are usually used as decorations around Tokyo Disney Resort. They have a painting up in Valencia Sweets and are currently exchanging love letters in the window of House of Greetings. They also recreated their famous spaghetti scene as Easter Eggs at Tokyo Disneyland during the Easter event 🎀

Happy 23rd Birthday to the Hunchback of Notre Dame released on June 21, 1996 🇫🇷

Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, this Disney film isn’t short of dark moments. The late Tony Jay’s haunting vocals as Judge Claude Frollo send shivers down anyone’s spine. Along for the ride are the voicing talents of Tom Hulce, Demi Moore, Kevin Kline and Jason Alexander, just to name a few ⛪️

This film isn’t highly promoted nowadays but Tokyo Disney Resort still delivers something to fans. Esmeralda is available as a meet and greet often in Fantasyland. She’s a delight to meet and will often tell you to keep an eye out for Joly 🐐 Claude Frollo also appears in the villains segment of One Man’s Dream II: The Magic Lives On, alongside the Evil Queen and Maleficent 😈

Happy 17th Birthday to Lilo and Stitch released on June 21, 2002 🏄🏽‍♀️

This movie is filled with so much heart, laughs and so many quotable lines to live by. Daveigh Chase and Chris Sanders play the lovable pair respectively and are backed up by David Ogden Stiers, Tia Carrere, Jason Scott Lee and Ving Rhames 🚀

I wanted to keep the first bit short because, my goodness, is the movie popular at Tokyo Disney Resort!! From the Stitch and Angel meet and greet at Tokyo Disney Sea, to the Enchanted Tiki Room now being Stitch themed in Tokyo Disneyland. Not to mention, Stitch’s Encounter in Tomorrowland and the miles upon mile of merchandise available. Lilo and Stitch are also included in the revamp of “Its a small world.” They also appear, along with Angel, in many of the parades and shows at TDR. If you’re a fan, you will not be disappointed!!

Two birthdays to celebrate today!

Happy 21st Birthday to Mulan released on June 19, 1998 🗡

Based on a Chinese legend, Mulan challenges the role of the traditional woman by having the female protagonist take on the male dominated world and be the hero at the end. This movie has endless amounts of quotable dialogue: usually coming from Eddie Murphy’s Mushu or the late Pat Morita’s Emperor. Along for the ride is the voicing talents of Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, the late Miguel Ferrer and George Takei along with the vocals of Lea Salonga and Donnie Osmond 🐉 Unfortunately Mulan and co. isnt featured much at Tokyo Disney Resort but she does appear in the revamped “It’s a small world” 🇨🇳

Happy 4th Birthday to Inside Out released June 19, 2015 💛💙💚💜❤️

One of the more relatable films Pixar has ever released; Inside Out deals with a lot of issue surrounding our world today. More importantly, it broaches the subject of mental health in a beautifully sensitive way. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters from Amy Poehler’s Joy to Richard Kind’s Bing Bong. Rounding out the cast of emotions is Phyllis Smith, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and Lewis Black 😄😔😡😱🤢

During Pixar Playtime in February 2019, Joy and Sadness were two of the characters available for a meet and greet at Tokyo Disney Sea. They also took part in the Pixar Playtime Pals harbour show 🧩
