Perhaps there was some joy in aggravating the police. It was risky, but god was it fun. By this point in his career, he’d dealt with them more than enough to know where his boundaries lay as far as not getting his ass hauled in. Right now, he was merely teasing the pretty young detective, harmless fun that was visibly enraging her, to his amusement.
That look she gave him then…ooh, that look. Were she not a cop, he’d have taken her right there, whether she wanted it or not. However, the accusations she was making were quite serious, and unfortunately, very accurate. She didn’t need to know that of course, bright blue eyes observing her with no sign of nervousness or panic. “She was a college student. Amphetamines are peddled around campus by other students. Adderall, Ritalin. It’s common knowledge that this is no extraordinary thing. As for what you heard about my supposed selling of those things, those are mere rumors. I know a few dealers, but I’m not one myself.”
She was getting heated now, and while there was no fear, there was a sense of defensiveness felt as she practically snarled at him. His bemused look turned more serious, more severe. If she was prepping herself to leap over the desk and maul him, she was in for a rude awakening that you did not fuck with Blake Dupont. “I don’t know where she is.” His tone was annoyed, the words forceful. “I told you. I met her at a club, we slept together, and she left the next morning. There’s nothing more I have to say to you, detective. Kindly leave.”
He needed to find out what she knew, who she knew, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to get it right from the horse’s mouth. He’d have to do some digging, some tracking. All of course once she finally left his office.
His tone had changed. The coyness had chilled.
For someone normal, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise. This bad cop routine from Dee wasn’t something to be taken lightly, as well as the accusations being tossed around. It would be right for anyone to be offended by them. However, there was still a glint in his eye that she didn’t trust, secrets and rumors that she knew couldn’t be overlooked.
“You say you know them. I assume you’re not going to give me names and make this a cakewalk for me? It’d give me a lead, at least.”
He was still a suspect, and she still needed to investigate, but the hand she dealt just now couldn’t be the only one. Besides, she needed to stay professional; if her superiors knew that she was about to slap a smartass in the face, there would be trouble back at headquarters. Police brutality was a very real thing and she didn’t want to be a part of the multitude of others that had busted lips on fake accusations.
Pushing her dark locks away from her flushed face, she exhaled in frustration. There wasn’t anymore she would be able to get from him right now.
Perhaps if he hadn’t teased her then she wouldn’t have gotten so damn heated.
“...fine. I won’t ask you anything else, save for the name of the club. This girl’s family is worried sick, and if you have any moral bone in your body you’d at least fess up to that.”
