FRIENDLY REMINDER: whenever you say that Timothee Chalamet or Finn Wolfhard or whatever jewish boy youve latched onto looks like a mouse or a rat or whatever you are being extremely fucking racist!!!!! like nazi kkk racist!!!!!!! like stop doing that please for fucks sake!!!!!!!!!!
it pisses me off that i can make a post about people saying extremely offensive things about jewish men’s appearances and yall will still be reblogging this talking about how hot or ugly they are. that isn’t the fucking point. i don’t care how hot or ugly you think timothee or finn or any other celebrity is. the point is that it’s become very normalized to say things about jewish men’s bodies that are rooted in antisemitism and i think it’s fucked up.
hey prev!
so a couple of things:
yes, the black plague thing is part of it. jews were very often blamed for the plague and massacred. the population of jews in medieval europe took a HUGE nosedive because of this. the plague was less deadly in jewish communities and christian europeans associated it with their views of us as being "satanic" and accused us of poisoning wells. in reality it was because jews practiced better hygiene (as it is literally part of our religious rituals). jews became associated with sickness, parasites, and yeah, pests. (we can see this carry over into modern day with covid conspiracies.)
the nazis called jews "vermin", "pests", "disease", "plague". they called us rats and mice and roaches. saying these things about jews or people who "look jewish" is the same dehumanizing language used by the literal actual nazis.
it’s also very much tied to the denigration of Jewish features as ugly and sinister. pointy noses, beady eyes, large ears, all have been used in antisemitic caricatures and are also associated with rodents.
one of the most illustrative pieces of Nazi propaganda about this - the rats are Jewish refugees:
Cartoon depicting Jewish refugees as rats, thrown out of Germany and Nazi occupied territories, deni | Image library. The New Humanitarian p
another example:
Rats make us think of disease, dirt and infestation, and have been used to represent Jews in antisemitic imagery throughout history into the present. Take a look at this is propaganda poster from the 1940s when the Nazis occupied Denmark. The text reads “Rats. Destroy them.” In a Nazi propaganda film, the Eternal Jew the occupants of a Jewish ghetto are shown in tight quarters likened to rats swarming in a sewer. The statement “Destroy them” is particularly vile due to the common use of Zyklon B to eradicate rats as well as its use in the Nazi death camp’s gas chambers.

it just so happens that right after this i saw that this is a real thing that has happened:
