My Thoughts on the Hadestown Movie (I would chew on that thing)
full disclosure: I’ve seen it on Broadway and Literally went to the first day it was out in theaters anyways here we go
• The candle omg the candle. Candle ily. My favorite part of Broadway.
•LETS GO ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE STANDING STILL WHILE THE ENSEMBLE REPRESENTS THEIR INNER TURMOIL DURING THE OPENING
• the enhancement of Orpheus’ tune??? Hello gorgeous???
• No one can make me hate you Persephone exorcism dance
• OoOoOo I’ve ALWAYS wanted to see what Persephone and Hades played up in the balconey now I HAVE
• they really let her do ANYTHING with that fan
• Obsessed with the fate with the REALLY DEEP voice. Thank you casting directors for not being stupid.
• Didn’t quite cry at the end but I almost cried when the entire cast looked to the audience on “And the one we live in now” with the most painful hope
• Bittersweet wine that Persephone brings is up there on so many levels. Life is bittersweet. Repressing your emotions gets ugly.
• I like Eurydice way more now that I can see her up close. I sat very far away ok I didn’t know she made weird faces. I love me a good weird face (Persephone)
• Eurydice and Orpheus laying on the ground watching is SO cute omgggggg I remember seeing it on Bway and eating it UP
• back to the exorcism dance I cannot believe people don’t like that but never mention the weird movements the ensemble is doing in the opening. The reaching sparkle fingers HELLO
• um why did no one tell me Orpheus does a magic trick with the flower I thought he just handed her a napkin help 😭
• Orpheus’ little walk on the tables motif that comes back around. Trusting himself. Trusting the world. The wall.
• genuinely think Eurydice metaphorically loses her “innocence / virginity” when she takes her coat off. But not in the sex way. In the “this is what I am do you still feel what you felt”. The raw expression of self.
• ooooo yes Eurydice run into Orpheus and then RUN FROM THE FEAR OF FEELING I thought that number was good
• Persephone and Eurydice with your peculiar connection. The past the present the shared trauma you have NO IDEA. Persephone looks of horror when Hades’ attention turns to Eurydice.
•yess Orpheus hop in between your lady and the GOD OF DEATH
• Chant eats per usual, the weird human wall? Pointing at the people when you reference fossil fuels? Yup I’m here for these metaphors
•”he laid me out” what if I threw up I never caught that before. Metaphorical “virginity”
•Eurydice’s feather. The fates as birds. She is marked for death.
•shaky camera when Orpheus is unsure YES PLEASE
• more on that, the FOG that keeps the audience from seeing Eurydice. We are ALso looking for her.
•hades’ dog staff = Cerberus = costumes we <3 u

• The audience being included in the film is very important to me. We are also parts of this story. All good tales have a listener. There is a witness for the wedding. The marrying of the tale and the story. It is a performance.

looking at my last two posts one would think I am a total hypocrite.
to that I say, “Nuh uh”
it’s the same thing twice believe it or not
people should be allowed to have low ambition, and also be able to feed a family on the salary of a cashier at a convenience store.
And! We need cashiers. And convenience stores. And I think it's kind of broken that society says people who want to do stuff like that have "low" ambition (not you OP, I get you're using it illustratively because that's what society labels said jobs) and don't deserve to live at the same standard as people with "high" ambitions.
If we need someone to do a job, that job is a role in the community and deserves not just a salary but cultural respect for the role.
"high" ambition jobs are all jobs that involve domineering and controlling others. "low" ambition jobs are all jobs that involve service to others. Have you noticed? Because I have noticed.
But serving others is actually more needed than controlling them.

I love my mom. She is the greatest adult I know. If I became half as strong and patient and appreciative of quiet life as she is, I would be happy.
I do not want to be her. Do not let me become stuck with a mediocre job. Do not let me live life feeling just good enough. Do not let my passions fade to a duller color. Do not set my path in stone for me, I will walk the road less traveled. Mother I love you and I will become great for you. You will have a house with a pool or lake because I promised it.
just realized that when someone is saying agreeable/not mean things on the internet, they’re westernization-America-feminine in my head and if it’s offputting/mean they’re westernization-America-masculine. Need to dive deeper.

Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Also, if you’re even a little concerned about getting a hump or having trouble standing fully upright in your old age, this is how you prevent that. If you want to be up and about when you’re old you have to start when you’re younger. And keep in mind there is no bad time to start and it’s never too late. Starting today is way better than never starting at all.
