what is interesting to me about that conversation is the implication that if your prostitution policies seek to basically eradicate sex work as a job and provide everyone with a possibility to do something else for a living, you have done something absolutely inexcusably immoral, awful and terrible. like, never mind that you saved millions of women and girls from lifelong, repeating trauma, but you denied someone of a job they LIKED! how dare you be so cruel!
but. it's just that. ultimately i do not give a fuck if there are a whole ass four of them who L.O.V.E.D. being sex workers but who now have to come up with something else to do to get paid. that is not a crime. that is not against their human rights. that is just the smallest inconvenience in existence. oh no now that slavery is made illegal your slave master has to let you go even though you fiercely LOVE your master family and would have served them to your death!! oh nooo, now that child labor is made illegal you have to stop working even though you LOVED going to the mines everyday! oh nooo, you were planning to sell your kidney so you could buy a car but now it is illegal, what will you do!!! it was your dream, what will you do!!!
it's almost as if these people think sex workers identify as sex workers, that it is an inherent, innate part of who they truly are, and if you tell them to do something else, they will lose their most important means of self-expression or something. like you denied them the entire idea of having sex altogether.
and that's a haunting thought if you stop to think about it for a second. but then again, these people are usually the same ones that say any regulation against porn equals to masturbation being made illegal.
they have a vested interest in making sex about all sorts of things except sex itself.
