​trying to gage this - i personally think it’s unnecessary, as ao3 is not an american territory that im publishing into, but ive had comments before that lead me to think it takes people out of the story. let me know your thoughts! :)

just to add:

by “americanise” i mean purely in terms of vocab/grammar, for example the use of em dashes is different (in the uk we use -, in the us you use —), or you guys would say “apologize” rather than “apologise”

i agree that if a story is set in america, i wouldn’t be writing “bloody hell” and using “pavement” instead of “sidewalk”. i do think there is some nuance there!

I'm American and I think it is a net positive in the world for other Americans to be exposed to people who use the English language in different ways from them, and anyone who complains is about it being a baby.

This feels like one of those "reminder that not everyone is a native english speaker" moments.

I will not be learning regional and dialectical differences. Like not only I will not figure out which is british and which is american english but I will be using sidewalk and pavement interchangeably. I didn't know that was a reglional difference until I read this post. If a native english speaker feels entitled to other people "obviously" having to know the difference they can go read something else honestly

im no longer warning people about the sixties sfx in tos instead grabbing them by the shoulders and screaming there are aliens made of bubble wrap and latex and so much glitter. most of the episodes are blatantly filmed in southern california or three rotating sets featuring either pink orange or blue rocks. people jump off walls and pirouette when they get "punched". the ship beeps. a lot. too much for realism. spock goes into heat. dont worry about it. the point is there is no BUT. im not going to say "its very silly but its fun" ENOUGH! it's silly AND it's fun!!!!you will learn to love it all because when was the last time you looked at bubble wrap and a back garden and saw another world? remember how much fun it was? do you want to try again?!?!! do you want to play!!!!
