Educate yourself.
when the capitalists die out either thru global warming or revolution will we be able to start homegrown internet
been reading about dual power and how to grow my own tomatoes and i’m wondering how and if we’ll be able to start commie internet lol
like obviously the internet is this huge electric capitalist controlled hardware infrastructure thing so after all that shuts down is there a way to do it ourselves lol
i want to come home from a hard day on the communal allotment, kiss my Wife, crank up my generator, and start sharing meams!
GOOD NEWS: the homegrown commie internet is in the works! Across the world, people fighting against censorship and for a more democratic internet are building mesh networks (meshnets) of long-range wifi (LoRa)
Since wifi is just a standard for sending data through radio waves, and radio waves can go a pretty long way if you use ‘em right, it’s not that difficult to connect two computers by wifi from across town. Then you just keep adding more computers to the network and you’ve got internet!
Small antennae, like for connecting across the neighborhood, can literally be built out of trash
And a larger, more accurate one can be built pretty cheap too
(You can also reuse an old satellite TV dish, or really anything else that’s roughly parabolic)
There are LoRa meshnets in places like New York, India, and all over Europe: Spain (pictured below), Greece, Austria, Germany, etc
As for sharing fresh mëmês, the network to go to is Scuttlebutt. Unlike most social media, Scuttlebutt posts are stored on your computer and sent directly to your friends’ computers (rather than being stored on the cloud and sent to a central server). It works just fine over traditional internet, but you can also view and interact with it offline, and it has protocols for connecting over any means that two computers can share information - that includes LoRa, as well as hardwired connections, sneakernet (basically mailing a USB stick back and forth), etc
What that means is you always know that your info is just as safe as the network it’s sent on and the computer that receives it - no one even theoretically has the ability to collect and sell it all. And, since it’s all run on your computer, there’s no servers to go down or companies to go out of business that could destroy the whole thing
You can read more about this kind of stuff here (or here if it’s cloudy in Barcelona)!
there’s also the work being done by the DCPT, left-behind Detroiters meshing together their neighborhoods to share overpriced high-speed connections among the community and producing these good good educational documents, especially this rad resource page. building meshnets to share a global uplink is very similar to building meshnets for the purpose of intracommunication and these resources are useful in both cases
I’ve had a couple people ask about how to join/organize something like this, which is great! The best list of active projects I know of is here, though you should also do a search online if you don’t see one in your area in case they missed it. For those without a nearby group, put a pin here and try contacting nearby pins as well - you can use the instructions on buildyourowninter.net as well as the DCPT’s resources as linked above to get set up!
Please reblog this version so others can get involved!

I love every single person who reblogged this
I don’t think people realize how much of an impact this kind of support can have, I don’t think everyone knows what these little things can mean to us.
It may just be me, I don’t know. But every single time I see this on my dash or on someone’s blog or anywhere else, I kind of just breathe a sigh of relief. That’s one more person who cares. That’s one more person who doesn’t hate me.
Because it means so much, especially when all the media is spewing out is that I’m a terrible person and no one wants people like me near them. It means so much because I’m tired of people who won’t sit next to me in class, or who choose to join the longer line at the grocery store because they don’t want to be beside me and my family. It means so much when I have to lift my head any time someone says the words Islam or Muslim because I’m scared that they’ll say something that’ll hurt, when I have to pay attention to the news because who knows what so and so is saying now, who knows which of my people are being attacked now, who knows what’s going to happen to me now.
It means so much because I’ve been given the idea that the world is against me. And a huge part of it may be, but at least I’ve been reminded that some of it, just a small group of people, acknowledges that I’m a person too. That people like me are just that, people.
Maybe it’s just me, I don’t know. But now you do, so thank you for believing that I’m human when so many people don’t.
Have a great day x
Go unfollow this blog all you want, I am reblogging this.
I am aware this does not follow this blog’s style, however, I find it necessary to reblog this
Not art, but super important
Is it okay if I reblog this with some resources for educating yourself specific to Muslims in my country (India)?

The Islamophobia of the Ruling Party
Delhi Riots: took place in Feb 2020, 53 (officially) dead, more than 2/3rd were Muslim, targeting of muslim communities by right wing Hindutva people

There’s so much more, feel free to message me if you want more information or if you want to donate. Please spread awareness if you’re not Indian. If you are Indian, then it’s even more important to do so as there’s been a huge rise in Islamophobia in the country.

Your mental health doesn’t make you bad.
If you're trans you should join a union and learn how to use a weapon yesterday
We're already an invisible, disposable underclass right now today.
And things are gonna get worse. We have to admit that things are gonna get worse and be prepared for that.
Be safe, don't go anywhere without telling someone you trust, try not to go anywhere alone. Even if all you can do is look up self-defense videos on YouTube, do it.
Make a bug out bag, have a plan, use signal to communicate with your people.
We will always, ALWAYS, be the first ones thrown away. Rely on your closest friends, your trans siblings. We can't count on the rest of the queer community to help us.
We have us.
But goddamn if we aren't the hardiest motherfuckers alive. We make it, we survive cause we know we can. Even though the rest of the world may not believe it, we know trans people have always walked this earth, seen this sky, bathed in these springs, smiled as the first scene of spring flowers blew in on the breeze, tasted the first fruits of the harvest with joy; and we will continue to. In a world that wants to further we exist, we will still forge ahead, we will still survive and we will dance under the stars.
And for those of us who have passed, for those who don't make it, we will honor them. We will remember them. We will revel and celebrate their fabulous querness. Every breath we take is for them, for all of us. It's us declaring that we are here, we're alive. Blood pulses through our veins in a thundering march that yells to that would see us dead that we are here, we're fucking queer. And they will never, ever stop us.
The world is a scary place for us my friends.
Take care of each other. ❤️

The constant threat of violence that's been the background of all our lives is becoming yesterday's news. The new shit is fast becoming something along the lines of: Are you going to come quietly when they come for you?
Dunno about y'all, but I'd cause a ruckus.
so after seeing how @thewindowsshutdownnoise lost followers after rb'ing my aroace romance repulsed error post, i decided to make aspec pride icons out of pure spite

My favorite piece of worldbuilding in Amber Skies is that the internet is alive and can feel pain
No Context Amber Skies Lore:
All Insects are Catholic
The Akira singularity happened but its fine
Drone bombers are alive now and demand you sacrifice a cow every month
Convergent evolution of cows and tractors
Selling your ass but it's literally just your ass
Catgirls are real and they all have cordyceps
"I'm just a humble skin farmer and these are my wares"
Eugenicist MechaNuns
Every mushroom is one mushroom
"I would like your finest ass"
Where c an I find this, “Amber Skies”? I’m Asking because I know I can google it to find out but I crave human interaction and am also lazy.
here's the index
Y'all just gonna breeze right past "the convergent evolution of cows and tractors" huh
they cross pollinated
The resulting organism is technically an algae even though it has bones made of ferrosilicate
1) replace fossil fuels with genetically engineered algae based biofuel that eats cow dung and heat, allow it to respond to temperature stimulus so it seeks heat
2) create self replicating nanite technology that can perform minute repairs on industrial equipment
3) make tractors slightly autonomous so they can perform farm work on their own
4) cause apocalypse, allow algae and nanite technology to escape and mix, allow roughly 10K years of artifical evolution
5) cyberalgae now a normal part of cow biology
6) cyberalgae now a normal part of tractor biology
7) allow codependent organisms merge over time
8) you are now effectively an algae with metal bones fueled by internal combustion and hydraulics. You eat carrion and the light of the sun. You moo.
9) humans domesticate you for your use as a beast of burden, your delicious vegetarian cybermilk, and meat which is strikingly similar to tofu.
Imagine being a cow but every time you get injured your cell structure repairs you to be more like a tractor. It took some tries but they got it right eventually.
I put so much work into crafting this world to the point where it exceeds 45K+ words for maybe 300 notes a a chapter but I mention one (1) tractor cow and y'all are all 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
Which just goes to show you can never actually predict what is going to resonate with an audience.

more on writing muslim characters from a hijabi muslim girl
- hijabis get really excited over pretty scarves - they also like to collect pins and brooches - we get asked a lot of questions and it can be annoying or it can be amusing, just depends on our mood and personality and how the question is phrased - common questions include: - “not even water?” (referring to fasting) - hijabis hear a lot of “do you sleep in that?” (we don’t) and “where is your hair?” (in a bun or a braid, usually) - “is it mooze-slim or mozzlem?” (the answer is neither, it’s muslim, with a soft s and accent on the first syllable) - “ee-slam or iz-lamb?” (it’s iss-laam, accent on the first syllable) - “hee-job?” (heh-jahb, accent on the second syllable)
- “kor-an?” (no. quran. say it like koor-annn, accent on the second syllable) - people tend to mess up our names really badly and you just get a sigh and a resigned nod or an awkward smile, maybe a nickname instead - long hair is easy to hide, short hair is harder to wrap up - hijab isn’t just covering hair, it’s also showing as little skin as possible with the exception of face, hands, and feet, and not wearing tight/sheer clothing - that applies to men too, people just don’t like to mention it ( i wonder why) - henna/mehendi isn’t just for special occasions, you’ll see people wearing it for fun - henna/mehendi isn’t just for muslims, either, it’s not a religious thing - henna/mehendi is not just for women, men also wear it, especially on their weddings - there are big mehendi parties in the couple of nights before eid where people (usually just women and kids) gather and do each other’s mehendi, usually just hands and feet - five daily prayers - most muslim kids can stutter through a couple verses of quran in the original arabic text by the age of seven or eight, it does not matter where they live or where they’re from or what language they speak natively - muslim families tend to have multiple copies of the quran - there are no “versions” of the quran, there has only ever been one. all muslims follow the exact same book - muslims have no concept of taking God’s name in vain, we call on God at every little inconvenience - don’t use islamic phrases if you don’t know what they mean or how to use them. we use them often, inside and outside of religious settings. in islam, it is encouraged to mention God often and we say these things very casually, but we take them very seriously - Allahu Akbar means “God is Greatest” (often said when something shocks or surprises us, or if we’re scared or daunted, or when something amazing happens, whether it be good or bad; it’s like saying “oh my god”) - Subhan Allah means “Glory be to God” (i say subhan Allah at the sky, at babies, at trees, whatever strikes me as pleasant, especially if it’s in nature) - Bismillah means “in the name of God” and it’s just something you say before you start something like eating or doing your homework - In Shaa Allah means “if God wills” (example: you’ll be famous, in shaa Allah) (it’s a reminder that the future is in God’s hands, so be humble and be hopeful)
- Astaghfirullah means “i seek forgiveness from Allah” and it’s like “god forgive me” - Alhamdulillah means “all thanks and praise belong to God” and it’s just a little bit more serious than saying “thank god” (example: i passed my exams, alhamdulillah; i made it home okay, alhamdulillah) - when i say we use them casually, i really mean it - teacher forgot to assign homework? Alhamdulillah - our version of “amen” is “ameen” - muslims greet each other with “assalamu alaikum” which just means “peace be on you” and it’s like saying hi - the proper response is “walaikum assalam” which means “and on you be peace” and it’s like saying “you too”
As a Muslim this post is so very important and it makes me so happy that it gives the small facts and details that one might be unaware of or confused about.
Do you like games? Trapped at home? Wanna have a fresh experience starring people of color front-and-center?
Let’s talk about ValiDate: Struggling Singles in your Area. A dating sim with a twist.
** (DEMO LINK) ** (KICKSTARTER PAGE) **
Currently one of the top games on Itchio’s dating sim category, written, drawn, fully scored & produced by a diverse team of creators of color, it recently hit funding on Kickstarter, and with 19 days to go you can still help it become fully-realized with all the cool CG art and extra content it deserves!
From the Kickstarter page:
“ValiDate is a visual novel in which you maneuver yourself through the twisting paths of young adulthood.
Set in the Jercy City area, twelve struggling singles in their twenties navigate through the trying ordeals of capitalism to find meaning in their lives. Includes a hint of love, cosplay, and even mediocre mixtapes in the mix.
With 12 playable characters and over 30 routes to choose from, there will be about 20-30 hours of content, depending on how you play it. We don’t know if you be reading fast or not. Whether your decisions are good, bad, or just tremendously shitty, you’re going to have a great time falling in (or out) of love with these characters.“
The twist, if you didn’t catch it, is that instead of playing as a singular protagonist, you’ll be able to play as *12 distinct characters* trying (and failing) to romance one another, as their lives intersect in unprecedented ways.
At the time of writing, you can play as 4 of the main characters (with a demo update coming soon to showcase a bit of Malik’s route) & meet a couple more! they are:
Thanks to the Kickstarter campaign, you’ll now be ALSO able to meet:
12 playable characters with 30+ routes.
The ability to choose horrible decisions and see the entertaining fallout.
#OwnVoices narrative writing by an all people of color team.
Original score by the Boys.
A beautiful array of artists of color’s work to give each character their own individual feeling.
Backgrounds taken from all around the world.
Flawed characters undergoing narrative arcs handled with empathy and self-indulgence.
Achievements for every single ending.
Since the campaign has been funded, TWO of the stretch goals have already been hit, but there’s more to come.
you see, i really want that fishing minigame.
Find more info, meet the team, & check their Kickstarter here! http://kck.st/2ZLTz8w
happy playing!!!! :D reblogs always incredibly appreciated.
Generational thinking allows us to ignore the fact that there are marginalized elderly people and bigoted young people. The only reason boomers seem more bigoted than teenagers is because all the marginalized boomers were systematically murdered via hate crimes, poverty, and medical neglect.
Class consciousness or bust.
