Thinkin’ about how as a kid I was afraid to sleep alone in my room bc I thought a ghost lived in my closet so every night I’d wake up and move into my parents room to sleep on the itchy wool rug on the floor. It was a bit under their bed and I wanted to lie on it perfectly so I’d also be a bit under the bed.
But I Also loved to eat ice cubes so while I was up in the dead of the night anyway I’d go grab an ice cube from the freezer.
And then I’d sneak into their room and lie down and start crunching on my ice cube, and without fail my dad would wake up and be like “are you REALLY eating ICE in here at 3 AM , AGAIN”
Then I’d swallow the whole ice cube really fast.
Anyway any time I think I’m ready for kids I think about losing sleep every night because there’s an 80 pound sentient creature halfway under my bed just. Eating ice

i’ve found it, the promised land
I’ve been here! There a truck stop and a diner. In the women’s bathroom there’s a fully clothed statue and if you try to pull down the pants, an alarm sounds in the whole diner.
Reading this post is like having a stroke.

Hi I live in Richmond VA and I love my city so much, this morning 60 people woke up to find old television sets just sitting on their porches or lawns. Even better, those with security cameras recorded the person(s) responsible and they cannot be identified because they were wearing a jumpsuit and tv on their head
A new local cryptid I’m so stoked

I was thinking about why I prefer to read manga over American comics (as in, monthly serialized comics) and, putting aside opinions about the “quality” of either medium, I think the reason why is because I have absolutely no idea how American comics work.
Say you’re a complete noob to manga. You don’t know shit about it. But that One Piece thing you saw on TV looks really cool and you want to read it. Where do you start? Volume 1 and go from there.
But imagine the same situation but with comics. You just saw the new Spiderman movie and now you got a craving for more like it. Where do you begin? Well, no one knows because there’s been 901823434^34 different iterations of the character for decades.
With manga, there’s usually one guy (and maybe a team of artists under them to help) working on it. Even if it goes on for years or may switch leads, there’s usually some “consistency” to keep everything in check. With American comics on the other hand, it’s the complete opposite: you have multiple different writers and artists, each contributing their own take on the character: alternate timelines, alternate motifs, etc etc. It’s all a big clusterfuck to me and I have no idea how anyone can keep track of it all.
i wanna read spiderman, where do i start?
“well, you’ll have to choose one of the major points in the series to start at and then switch between different iterations depending on what kind of tone you’re looking for“
i wanna read jojo, where do i start?
“volume 1“
“I want to read X-Men and Wolverine, where do I start?”
ugh this is something that really frustrates me. esp because theres a lot of characters from Marvel, DC, and a couple other comics that I am genuinely interested but the fact that I have to search for which comic to start with is annoying. And people have different ideas of which one to start with too. I know some people say to just start with the first one ever. But sometime those first comics, while they do express the original concpet and ideas behind the story and each character, they can be dated and old that its more of a drag to get through them and I’m not really having fun.
There’s also the fact that a manga series is usually written by one author, whereas with American comics can switch writers and have the tone and details of the story ping pong back and forth.
Example: In Ghost Riders original run there was a character I will refer to as Johnny’s ‘friend’. Why am I calling him that? Because his true identity kept changing. He’s a good Samaritan. No, He’s actual Jesus Christ trying to save Johnny’s soul. No wait, now he’s a manifestation of Mephistopheles trying to trick Johnny into further despair. Now he’s back to being Jesus. Just pick one and go with it
