Queer students deserve to feel safe at school! We're in our third year of giving grants to put the power in their hands to make their schools more welcoming - students know what they need most in their own communities and their own schools.
Through 50 States, 50 Grants, 5,000 Voices, we've awarded over $1.5 million in grants across the U.S. to support student-led projects. Our third season has some of the most badass projects yet, like these:

Having entered my 40s this still rings true. You get a far better grasp of yourself and will be less tolerating of bs because you simply don't have the time to waste on trifles.
Saying ‘you should be bad!!’ In like Gay Voice to a white woman at starbucks has like the same psychological impact as going like ‘who’s a good boy?’ To a dog. It makes them so excited in a really endearing way.
"Here is our master plan for how we're going to take away all your rights and fuck up the economy and environment even harder and how we're going to obliterate free speech and turn everyone into slaves and hey wait where is everyone going? Why do they hate us all of a sudden?"
One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was a sort of “transmog” guide - the pieces or sets that I think are worth having on-hand for those just starting to get into Destiny fashion.
So, this is one of those guides. I like to call a lot of the things on this list ‘staples’ - specific pieces that you can make really quick and pleasant looking outfits with.
I’ll be breaking the guides down by class - first Hunters, then Titans, then Warlocks. I play a masculine Hunter so YMMV a little bit when it comes to talk about silhouettes. Since this got WAY too long, I have a cut below.
Bolded pieces are the pieces being suggested - italicised pieces are ones that go with the aforementioned bolded piece.

Exclamation Marks (!) indicate sets that are no longer obtainable - newer players and players that do not have those sets may disregard them.

Without further ado...
HUNTERS
Hunters are typically regarded as being incredibly easy to make outfits for compared to Titans and Warlocks - the balance of not only visual real estate (ie bulky robes that take up ½ the outfit) but the usage of materials (metals/leather/cloth) makes Hunters the best candidates for making some really fun looking outfits with.
The only real issue is deciding what theme you’d like to have. As such, I’ve created two categories: “Patrol Chic” and “Space Knight”. Patrol Chic is the kind of thing you’d imagine regular non-player Hunters would wear - sleek and slim leather pieces, lots of belts and packs, and a general emphasis on what makes a Hunter, a Hunter. Space Knight leans into more fantastical vibes, being more predominantly metal-based with vague shoutouts to low-to-mid fantasy aesthetics.
Note that there can be a lot of overlap between the two and that these are not meant to be hard rules - simply guides for figuring out your aesthetic in the Destiny fashion process. Likewise, everyone’s tastes are different, and at the end of the day, we’re playing dress-up in first-person shooters here.
MASKS
Patrol Chic - Mechanic 1.2 is a great choice for a helmet in that the actual face mask covers the neck, allowing for it to blend into most cloaks that happen to have a scarf. The *Illicit Collector Mask and its derivatives (Reaper, Invader, Sentry) are a great alternative choice, with the caveat of needing to coordinate the cloth mask to match the colors of the glows on the mask. The Gumshoe Gumption Mask and its derivatives (Photosuede, Clutch Extol, Viperidax) have somewhat of a motorcycle helmet silhouette that fits the Patrol Chic vibes. For something more on the slimmer side, the !Iron Symmachy Mask is a great choice, being a more sleek, Neoteric Kiyot-esque helmet. Beyond that, many levelling masks like the Refugee/Wastlander Masks, Kit Fox 1.5, Shadow Spector and Outlander’s Cover and its derivatives (Took Offense, Dead End Cure 2.1) are all good choices.
Space Knight - The Frumious Mask and its derivatives (Road Complex AA1, Swordflight 4.1) fit the Space Knight aesthetic to a T. The *Righteous Mask is another great option, although I’m not a particularly big fan of the concave silhouette the front part of the mask has. The *Pathfinder’s Helmet also fits into the aesthetic as well, though its heavy use of secondary and tertiary metals may make it difficult to coordinate other shaders with. Still, a cool helmet.
GRIPS
Hunter grips are a bit of a pain to coordinate with - a lot of arms seem rather out of place when paired with most things that aren’t its own set, and with how many asymmetrical designs there are, choosing the right grips can be difficult.
Patrol Chic - The Gumshoe Gumption Grips and its derivatives (Photosuede, Clutch Extol, Viperidax) have been my go-to grips for anything remotely Patrol Chic. The boxy geometrical look provides means to more broad looking shoulders - and broad looking outfits - that Hunters typically haven’t had too much access to before WQ’s release. The *Pathfinder’s Grips are another great choice, coordinating well with vests that have similar lined leather detailing such as the Twisted Echo Vest, *Abhorrent Imperative Vest, or Outlander’s Heart and its derivatives (Wildwood, Took Offense, Dead End Cure). Other good options are the !Phobos Warden Grips and its derivatives (Cinder Pinion, Calamity Rig)
Space Knight - Errant Knight 1.0 and its derivative Sovereign Grips, and the *Righteous Grips are pretty much the main options for the Space Knight aesthetic - simple, sleek but more formal looking grips. The !Iron Fellowship Grips provide a bulkier option if you’re looking for a more armored looking space knight.
VESTS
Hunter vests are the core - both metaphorically and literally - of your Hunter’s outfit, and can serve as both a focal point or an accent for your outfit.
Patrol Chic - Outlander’s Heart and its derivatives (Wildwood, Took Offense, Dead End Cure) and the Gumshoe Gumption Vest and its derivatives (Photosuede, Clutch Extol, Viperidax) are pretty good choices for aiming for Patrol Chic - simple vests that lean on the more utilitarian side. Likewise, the Icarus Drifter Vest and Insight Rover Vest are good options as well, however their uncolorable parts (the neon highlighter bits on Icarus Drifter and the red bits on Insight Rover) may make them a little more difficult to coordinate with.
Space Knight - The *Gensym Knight Cuirass and !Iron Fellowship Vest pretty much nails the general “knight” part of Space Knight, being armored chestpieces that, well, cover the chest. For more sleek vests, Road Complex AA1 and its derivatives (Errant Knight, Sovereign, Flowing) are good options. The *Pathfinder’s Tunic is another decent choice, though its bulky belt may clash a bit with the more lean legs.
The *Righteous Vest is a great choice not just for the Space Knight aesthetic, but a great choice in general - its sleek simplicity lends itself to work with many other sets. With simple metal bits that coordinate well with sets like Prime Zealot, *Gensym Knight, or *Substitutional Alloy. The main draw for me, however, is the cloth detailing on the stomach matching up with many Hunter strides, including:
Forbidden Visage Strides
Frumious Strides and its derivatives (Red Moon Phantom Steps, !2018 and 2019 Solstice Strides)
Shadow Spectre and its derivatives (Exodus Down, Icarus Drifter - note YMMV as it is not as flattering on masculine hunters as it is on feminine ones)
Moonfang-X7 Strides (note that it’s not entirely cohesive compared to the other legs - that being said, it looks nice so I’m including it)
STRIDES
The one thing Hunters are famous for besides their cloaks - the legs of which they use to run and hide from things like the weenies they are. There’s also a lot of great strides.
Before I divvy up the two aesthetics, I want to talk about a specific pair of strides that I 100% advocate transmogging: the *Pathfinder Legguards. I am fully biased and believe that they are the best strides in the game. They’re skin-tight and shapely and make for some very sexy pants in general. Some chestpieces they go great with are the !Vest of the Ace Defiant, Tusked Allegiance Vest, Road Complex AA1 and its derivatives (Errant Knight, Sovereign, Flowing)
I must note that in order for the two to appear 100% cohesive between one another, both the middle and outer leathers - and the inner cloth trims if your shader choices and color palette allow - of the strides have to be matching with the leather on the chest.
Some good shaders for coordinating the two together are:
Black: Cryptic Insignia, Basalt Toxic, New Age Black Armory, Metro Shift (blue trim),Vitrified Chronology, Vintage Timber (beige scuff marks)
White: War Weary
Dark grey: Golden Age Wine (beige scuff marks), Bloodmane, Skele-Ghaul, Refurbished Black Armory, Darkwater Froth (blue trim)
Light grey: Oiled Gunmetal (black trim), Shadow Gilt, Midnight Talons(more of a beige-grey), Biolume (beige scuff marks),
Other colors: Gambit Jadestone (dark green, might go with Corrective // Protective? i haven't flawlessed a raid since crown lmao), Reef Regalia (dark blue/green, goes great with Ensilvered Snare), Vanguard Steel (blue)
Patrol Chic - Strides for Patrol Chic typically fall between two categories: slim or relaxed. For slim strides, the *Opulent Stalker Strides, Outlander’s Steps and its derivatives (Wildwood, Anti-Extinction, Took Offense, *Woven Firesmith), Moonfang-X7 Strides, and *Holdfast Strides fit that criteria. If you’re looking for more relaxed strides, *Prodigal Strides, Prime Zealot Strides, and the Scavenger’s Suit are fit for comfort-seeking Hunters.
Space Knight - The *Righteous Strides is my personal go-to for initial approaches for knight-esque designs - like the other pieces in its set, its sleek simplicity lends itself to work with many different aesthetics including this one. The !Iron Truage Boots provide some fun silhouettes with the thigh/butt pads lining up pretty well with the Outlander’s Heart. The Frumious Strides and its derivatives (Red Moon Phantom Steps, !2018 and 2019 Solstice Strides, !Daring Hunter Strides) are also decent choices for the Space Knight aesthetic.
CLOAKS
Cloaks are considered one of the most important things a Hunter owns - a display of their accolades and experiences draped behind them. Like in lore, a Hunter’s choice in cloak - or lack thereof - can completely change your Hunter’s outfit. Cloaks are typically a deeply personal thing for Hunters, and I kind of feel inclined to lean towards following that and say go with your heart on what you like the best. That being said, there are some notable ones if you’re solely interested in aesthetics:
The Refuge/Renegade Hood (they shade the same lmao) is the only Hunter cloak as of the writing of this guide that does NOT have a cape. With the $Couturier Mask, you can remove the hood and have a nice scarf for your Hunter.
Patrol Chic: Pretty much any simplistic cloak such as the Shattered Vault Cloak, works here. The *Substitutional Alloy Cloak or Wildwood Cloak are great if you’re looking for a more worn-in outfit. I’m a little meh about it myself but the !Tangled Web Cloak is a popular choice for those leaning towards Patrol Chic. I’d also like to include the *Wild Hunt Cloak as it is the only non-paid, non-Eververse cloak that is hoodless - with its scrappier design, it fits in with Patrol Chic. Other good Patrol Chic cloaks that are more YMMV are *Holdfast Cloak (lots of floating on the front), Exodus Down Cloak (uncolorable bright red),
Space Knight: A Cloak Called Home and its derivative the Coronation Cloak - the Coronation Cloak’s chainmail bit on the back of the hood works well in tandem with the $Nemean Grips. Some Iron Banner cloaks like the !Mantle of Efrideet and !Iron Will Cloak are also good choices for the Space Knight kind of look since they somewhat lean towards that aesthetic, as does the Great Hunt Cloak.
EVERVERSE
I wanted to include an Eververse section at the end as the EV sets are typically a mixed bag - some work really well with many sets, some work only with a few, and some are a pain to mix with other sets (such as the latest subclass sets… they’re cool, but a pain to coordinate!). I want to emphasise that it is not required to buy these sets to make good outfits. While EV sets provide the means for getting more mileage for what you can do with your outfits, not everyone playing Destiny has the money to, or wants to, buy those sets. It’s important to include F2P players when talking about Destiny fashion because they make up a significant portion of the player base.
That being said, assuming you’re a new player or a player getting into Destiny Fashion that wants to buy a set or two, I’d suggest buying these sets for the biggest bang for your buck:
Patrol Chic: The $Luxe Hunter and $Intrepid Hunter sets.
The $Luxe Hunter Set - A mainly leather-based set with pieces that have a lot of flexibility, some more than others. The most notable parts are the $Luxe Visage, which when paired with shaders like Venomous or Glacial Whisper make for a really sleek silver helmet; the $Luxe Sleeves, which pair nicely with armor with more geometrical metal parts like the Flowing, Moonfang-X7, Road Complex or *Woven Firesmith sets; the $Luxe Vest being a very solid leather chestpiece that combos with other leather-based armor sets well; and the $Luxe Cloak, being one of three paid hoodless cloaks (the other two being the $Couturier Cloak and the Deimosborn Cloak from the anniversary DLC). The main issue you’ll have is the uncolorable silver parts - that being said, silver is the least offensive uncolorable you could have, so the best thing to do is incorporate that silver into other parts of your outfit.
The $Intrepid Discovery Set - Like the Luxe Hunter Set, the Intrepid set is predominantly leather-based with pieces that have a lot of flexibility to them. The $Intrepid Discovery Mask just downright owns and looks cool and the $Intrepid Discovery Grips and $Intrepid Discovery Vest were essentially the progenitors of the Gumshoe Gumption set, being my personal go-to pieces for many things Patrol Chic. The two pieces I don’t really use as often are the $Intrepid Discovery Strides and $Intrepid Discovery Cloak - the former because it’s simply a reskin of the Refugee/Wastelander Boots, and the latter simply out of never really having an excuse to use it when other cloaks do its job better without the uncolorable beige. That being said, the cloak is still a great option to have for a simplistic Hunter cloak, uncolorable on the cape permitting.
Space Knight: The $Neoteric Kiyot and $Nemean Hunter sets.
The $Neoteric Kiyot Set - I’d actually include the set alongside the two Patrol Chic sets as well as in the Space Knight sets as it’s a fairly flexible outfit aesthetic-wise. While the grips and strides maintain a very regal appearance, the $Neoteric Kiyot Mask, $Neoteric Kiyot Vest, and $Neoteric Kiyot Cloak all share very sleek appearances to them that work fairly well with a wide range of armor sets. The vest pairs well with grips like the Icarus Drifter Grips or the *Substitutional Alloy Grips. The cloak has a lot of volume to it, especially with the scarf, which pairs well with vests that have very simple breastplates - think *Gensym Knight, Gumshoe Gumption and its derivatives or Righteous. It’s also great for covering the highlighter yellow straps on the Icarus Drifter Vest.
The $Nemean Set - I chose this set over the Empyrean Cartographer and Celestial sets for one reason - the mixing potential with the mask, grips and vest. The $Nemean Casque’s use of the primary and tertiary metals allows for unique color combinations with certain shaders like Chitin Slate (black/gold), Carbon Blood (all black) or Amethyst Bloom (purple/black). The $Nemean Grips, like Gumshoe Gumption and its derivatives, provide a degree of bulkiness to Hunter outfits, and detailing such as the chainmail can be paired with the Coronation Cloak or the scalemail with the Reverie Dawn or Great Hunt sets. Lastly, the $Nemean Cuirass, unlike its Titan and Warlock counterparts, only has filigree on the breastplate - enabling for some effective combos like with the Frumious Strides and its derivatives (!2018 and 2019 Solstice Strides, Red Moon Phantom Strides, !Daring Hunter Strides).
The other two pieces - strides and cloak - are the odd ones out in the set as the former tends to be incohesive with most vests, including its own, and imo I think the hood of the cloak is just kinda stupid looking unless you use the $Couturier Mask with the $Nemean Cloak, which removes that lion hood and leaves you with a very fanciful cape.
