Whenever someone says Cole’s death is supposed to be anticlimactic, I just assume they don’t understand shit cause what is more climatic than a knight who’s risen to the heights of society willing to fight in an outnumbered duel to save the men who’ve fought and died by his side only to be shot dead because even outnumbered, he’s the best fighter ever.

Episode 7 feels like the set up to the penultimate episode. Is episode 8 going to be both the big climax and resolution all in one? At this snails pace?

I really sat here and defended making Rhaena Nettles as an interesting thematic choice that would push Rhaenyra to something that would permanently fracture her faction. And the conclusion is Rhaenyra is not only reasonable and understanding she actually overcomes her anger and grief to selflessly save Rhaena multiple times and the actual confrontation is just questionable cgi of the dragons fighting and the only consequence is for a png of a lizard instead of any of the actual characters. Rhaenyra is nobly sad about the betrayal, Baela just hugs Rhaena, and there’s no actual need for Daemon to make a hard choice between Rhaenyra and the child he neglected but is still his child

to be the spurned, sidelined wife who becomes a victim of the selfishness of rhaegar's choices is very much what defines elia. you just gotta embrace it if you are not a coward. all these “their marriage was purely political” “she didn't feel anything for him” and “she had agency! she was scheming too!” are so obviously just very convenient and cheap attempts to soften up rhaegar and rhaelya's image, not to mention very ineffective too because even if it was one, rhaegar abandoning elia when she's bedridden having not even recovered from aegon's birth due to how recent it was without even leaving any loyal men to guard her or the children, is way too gutting of an injury for it to not hurt! even for someone who was purely in it for politics. her lack of agency in the whole situation IS the tragedy and her not feeling betrayed or hurt by his behaviour just robs her of her humanity and the ability to feel like a more realised character. which, i can see, is something that a certain people would unsurprisingly love to watch and are already celebrating because they don't like the fact that their fav ship stands on the corpse of one half of said ship's wife and children.

I hate that all these adaptations can’t grasp that this is the horror for women in this world because it’s either too horrible for them to actually adapt or they just don’t care. You can’t girlies your way out of the patriarchy because it will kill you.

It’s not lost on me that Helaena has only been given characterization only because she’s allowed to push back against Alicent. The writers needed another character who could be mad at Alicent now that everyone else has been removed.

I do enjoy Ulf’s nihilism and his conversations with Hugh, really tapping into why they would feel like they’re owed more because they’re now dragon riders but aren’t given what they’re due because they’re still commoners.

Would have loved to see how a dragon rider of unclear Targaryen connection, younger and still developing sense of herself in this world, and an outsider even among other common folk would react and be perceived by everyone else. Thats a perspective HotD is not covering despite Ryan claiming (lying) that they are.

i genuinely do not understand how people could watch rhaenyra tell ulf that the crown owns his labor and body entirely and that he is now only an extension of the throne, imprisoned in the red keep with no autonomy or will of his own, denying him access to his friends and freedom of movement, and come out of that scene thinking that ulf is a cringe loser who needs to know his place. you people are under spells.

Hotd can write original stuff that is good, it’s just they can only do it with the men. Suddenly once they need something for a woman to do it’s ’lets us flee UwU’ ‘ruling is so hard :(‘ ‘did you know you’re a bad mom?’ And repeat those three things for all episodes.
