I always took it to mean, like, don't bitch about Mrs. Obnoxious in front of her grieving children, not 'you can't say anything bad about a dead person ever' but let me tell you some people really do seem to take the latter approach and it's EXHAUSTING. I'm going to have to take a minute to process this, because it had not occurred to me that "don't tell grieving loved ones that the person they are actively mourning sucked ass and is better off dead" would've been a common enough faux pas that they had to make a whole phrase about it.

Possibly weird take but with all that AI Fruit Love Island going around one of the most angering parts is that I actually think the concept was good.

Like, if a person with patience and appreciation for the arts was like, "I'm going to make a parody dating show with food theme characters," I would genuinely be excited to see what they do with it. Weirder things have taken off, and I think it could have been like a Total Drama like thing if the creator really put in the work to write and draw this concept into something as simple as a small comic series.

But no, they saw AI as a "Make creative thing now and rake in all the views" button and rammed what could have been a real gem into dust. The speed tempted them down the wrong path and now they just wasted actual creativity for nothing.

The creator had a chance to be a real artist, but judging from their response post they never had it in them to actually work towards it.

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.

She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.

Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.
